John W. Cornwell
John Ward Cornwell, 69, of White Post, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Cornwell was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Frederick County, the son of Clarke W. and Gladys Clark Cornwell. He was an electrician with Cornwell’s Electric in Stephens City.
He attended Greenway Southern Baptist Church.
He married Florence H. “Flo” Cornwell on Aug. 25, 1990. Mrs. Cornwell died May 1, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Parker of Winchester; three brothers, Clarke Cornwell and Randolph Cornwell, both of Stephens City, and Harold G. Cornwell of Winchester; a sister, Mary Jo Reil of Brewerton, N.Y.; and two granddaughters.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Stephens City, with the Rev. Fred Hudson. Burial will be private.

John F. Crim
John Fredrick Crim, 40, of Lenexa, Kan., formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died Sunday Nov. 26, 2000, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Mr. Crim was born Sept. 23, 1960, in Winchester, the son of John F.L. and Shirley Dawson Miller Crim. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of sergeant.
He was a 1978 graduate of Leavenworth High School and attended the University of Kansas.
Surviving with his father, of Leavenworth, and his mother, of Shawnee, Kan., are a brother, Jeffrey S. Crim of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Susan M. Crim of Shawnee and Judi Brewer of Olathe, Kan.; his maternal grandparents, Amy and Stanley Barnes of Winchester; and his maternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Barnes of Winchester.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Leavenworth. Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leavenworth.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapels, Leavenworth.

Jean C. Fiddler
Jean C. Fiddler, 76, of Berryville, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.

Eunice G. Joyner
Eunice Gay Joyner, 98, a former resident of The Village at Woods Edge in Franklin, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Joyner was born Aug. 31, 1902, in Isle of Wight County, the daughter of Elisha and Martha Spivey Gay. She was the former assistant postmaster for the Walters Post Office.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and the Mt. Carmel Senior Citizens.
She married Otis V. Joyner on Dec. 19, 1929, in Suffolk.
Surviving are a son, O. Vernon Joyner Jr. of Winchester; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Robert Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

James E. Linaburg
James E. Linaburg, 89, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in Newton D. Baker V.A. Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mr. Linaburg was born July 30, 1911, the son of Edward and Virgie McDonald Linaburg. He was an Army veteran.
He attended Second Opequon Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church’s men’s group and the Round Hill Ruritan Club.
He was a member of VFW for 40 years, serving four years as commander. He was named VFW commander of the year for the state of Virginia and deputy chief of staff for the 10th District. He was the VFW’s national aid to camp in 1959.
He married Mildred L. Clem. Mrs. Linaburg died in April 1972.
Surviving are two daughters, Thelma Collins of Greenville, S.C., and Barbara Smith of Alexandria; a sister, Ester Boyd of Stephenson; two brothers, Clyde Linaburg of Luray and Douglas Linaburg of Winchester; a number of half brothers and half sisters; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. John D. Sterrett III officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Milton H. McDonald
Milton Harold “Mac” McDonald, 84, of 230 Gore Road, Gore, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his home.
Mr. McDonald was born March 2, 1916, in Paw Paw, W.Va., the son of Deskin F. and Maude Loy McDonald. He worked for Frederick County Public Schools as a school bus mechanic and was a member of United Commercial Travelers.
He married Vada Youngblood on Dec. 31, 1953, in Winchester.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Keith M. McDonald of Dallas and Eric H. McDonald of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; two daughters, Alicia Lawrence of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and Denise McConnell of Winchester; two sisters, Mary C. Mann of Great Cacapon, W.Va., and Florine Blankenship of Falls Church; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hebron Baptist Church, Gore, with the Rev. George Reed and the Rev. Jack Wardrope officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Snapp, Donald Snapp, Kenneth Reynolds, Julius Whitacre, Norman Anderson, and Kenny Light.

Edna P. Poland
Edna Presgraves Poland, 76, of Winchester, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Poland was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Berryville, the daughter of James G. and Virginia Hibbard Huff. She was a waitress for 20 years at McCrory’s variety store.
She was a member of Boyce Baptist Church and a 1942 graduate of Boyce High School.
She married Homer W. Presgraves on July 12, 1945. Mr. Presgraves died Aug. 29, 1974.
Surviving are a son, James Chapman Presgraves of Winchester; a daughter, Catherine Beightol of Winchester; a sister, Lottie Lee Bayliss of Winchester; a brother, Charles T. Huff of Winchester; a grandchild; four step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clinton Lawyer officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Huff, Connie Poston, Junior Foster, Bobby Jenkins, Bill Watkins III, and Garland Presgraves.

Harvey D. Turner
Harvey Douglas Turner, 87, of Paris, Va., died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Turner was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Turner; two daughters, Joan Sampson of Leesburg and Diane Turner of South Riding; a son, George Turner of Winchester; two sisters, Margaret Lakes of Leesburg and Evelyn Nickens of Harrisburg, Pa; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at noon Friday at Royston Funeral Home, Middleburg, with the Rev. Philip Lewis officiating. Burial will be in West View Cemetery, Upperville.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Sampson, Lorenzo Penic, Larry Windfield, Ellis Ross, Sam Butler, and Raymond Turner.

Stephen H. Adkins
Stephen Houston Adkins, 41, of Unger, W.Va., died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at home.
Mr. Adkins was born Dec. 19, 1958, in Gauley Bridge, W.Va., the son of Emil Whorley and Alice Roberta Hall Adkins.
He was a heavy equipment operator with Apac, L.F. Franklin Division, Stephens City.
He was of the Baptist faith and had attended public school in Prince George’s County, Md.
He was married for 17 years to Derenda Sue Ray Adkins.
Surviving in addition to his parents, of Unger, and his wife are two sons, Dustin Stephen Adkins and Casey Ray Adkins, both at home; three sisters, Kim Kristy Krug of Shadyside, Md., Rhonda Gail Ermer of Huntingtown, Md., and Emily Renee Murphy of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and two brothers, Emil Harrison “Butch” Adkins of Lanham, Md., and Joseph Rue Adkins of Annapolis, Md.
A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Helsey-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Larry Tomlinson officiating. Burial will be in Adkins Family Cemetery, Unger.

Mary C. Staples
Mary Crampton Staples, 93, of 6671 Lord Fairfax Highway, Berryville, died Friday Nov. 3, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 1, 1907, in Clarke County, daughter of William Oscar and Georgiana Clarke Crampton.
She was a schoolteacher for 40 years and had taught in the counties of Clarke, Westmoreland, Fauquier, and Frederick. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College.
She was the oldest member of the Berryville Baptist Church and had been a member for 80 years. She was a member of Clarke County Retired Teachers Association.
She married Ralph Staples, who died April 13, 1948.
Survivors include a son, William C. Staples of Berryville; a stepdaughter, Ann Rucker of Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepson, Jay Clay Staples of Vienna; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Berryville Baptist Church with Dr. William E. Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
Pallbearers will be Murray Pearson, Doug Moler, Wayne Foltz, John Lyttle, Carlton Utterback, and Al Johnson.
The family will receive friends at the Berryville Baptist Church following the service.

Lloyd G. Elsea
Lloyd Garfield Elsea, 81, of 102 Tilthammer Mill Road, Boyce, died Saturday Nov. 4, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Clarke County, son of Raleigh C. and Julia Wood Elsea.
He was a carpenter and retired from Martin-Marietta Construction Division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 9760 of Berryville.
He married Gwendolyn Edna Elsea Dec. 23, 1954, in Bellefonte, Pa.
Survivors including his wife are four sisters, Mary Jane Underhill of Winchester; Dorothy Heflin and Dolly Lloyd, both of Berryville; and Isabelle Dodson of Deltona, Fla.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park with Pastor Timothy McCollum officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville.
