Marvin Martin Strawderman, 60, of 137 Family Drive, Stephens City died Oct. 28, 2000, at his residence.
He was born March 11, 1940, in Fairfax County, the son of Joseph F. and Mary Laura Kennedy Strawderman.
He married Laurrel Minnick Strawderman on Jan. 27, 1964, in Rockville, Md.
He was a pipe layer for Perry Engineering for 27 years.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, Terry M. Strawderman of Augusta, W.Va., Jerry L. Strawderman of Front Royal, Gary M. Strawderman of Winchester, and Marty R. Strawderman at home; three sisters, Thelma D. Earnhart of Timberville, Cleta Shoemaker of Harrisonburg, and Delores Campbell of New Market; two brothers, Joseph Strawderman Jr. of Lebanon Church and Nelson Strawderman of Stephens City; and three grandchildren.
A daughter, Tina Lynn Strawderman, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Stephens City with the Rev. Harold Burnette officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Church Cemetery in Jerome.
Pallbearers will be his sons, along with Tommy Lekas, and Nelson Strawderman Jr.

Ada W. Dorsey
Ada Webber Dorsey, 77, of Winchester died Friday Oct. 27, 2000, in Winchester.
She was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Whitehall, the daughter of William and Goldie Chrisman Webber.
She was a homemaker. She married Lawrence W. Dorsey Sr. Oct. 10, 1942, in Frederick County.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Dorsey Lee of Winchester; two sons, Lawrence W. Dorsey Jr. of Virginia Beach and Thomas S. Dorsey of Clearbrook; two brothers, Leo Webber and Roy Webber, both of Winchester; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clay Ellis, Dennis Ellis, Christopher Dorsey, Chris Dorsey, and Brian Dorsey.

Susan K. Duff
Susan K. Duff, 87, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Ingleside Presbyterian Retirement Home, Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Duff was born July 30, 1913, in Romney, W.Va., the daughter of Michael Blue and Edith Pancake Kuykendall.
She was a school teacher for 29 years, teaching English and French at Capon Bridge High School, Capon Bridge Junior High School, and Hampshire High School.
She was a 1934 graduate of West Virginia University. She was involved with Friends of the Capon Bridge Library, Fort Edwards Foundation, Hampshire County Retired Teachers Association, and Hampshire County Homemakers Club.
She was a member of Slanesville Presbyterian Church in Slanesville, W.Va. She was a Sunday school teacher at Capon Bridge Presbyterian Church.
She married James E. Duff on June 9, 1939, in Staunton. Mr. Duff died on Sept. 28, 1987.
Surviving is a daughter, Lucy Wright Duff of Lanham, Md.; and a grandchild.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Capon Bridge Senior Center, with the Rev. Ronald L. Wilkes and the Rev. Foster Couchman officiating. Burial will be in Capon Chapel Cemetery.

Donald E. Fox
Donald Elesworth Fox, 71, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Pocomoke City, Md.
Mr. Fox was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Morgan County, W.Va., the son of Sanford Elesworth and Teressa Lillian Hendershot Fox.
He retired in 1994 as a school bus driver with Morgan County Public Schools. He formerly worked at Berkeley Springs State Park; Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, Md.; Morgan County War Memorial Hospital; Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Md.; Victor Products in Berkeley Springs; and B&O Railroad in Hancock, W.Va.
He attended Berkeley Springs High School. He was a member of A.A.R.P. and Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and Deacon.
He was married to Violet Catherine Butts for 52 years.
Surviving with his wife and mother, of Berkeley Springs, are a daughter, Doris Jean Mowery of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Roger Lee Fox and Timmy Eugene Fox, both of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Lorraine Henderson, Mary Ann McCarty, and Cheryl Price, all of Berkeley Springs; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Gary Donald Fox and John Elesworth Fox, and a granddaughter are deceased.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert S. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Alpine United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Earla I. Wilson
Earla Irvin Roland Wilson, 90, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Mrs. Wilson was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Earl H. and Jenny Boatman Irvin. She was a homemaker.
She attended public schools in Dayton. She was of the Protestant faith.
She was married to Leon Woodrow Wilson, who died on Dec. 20, 1995.
Surviving is a sister, Lois Brehm of Dayton.
Services in Dayton will be private.

Todd P. Burkhart, 37, of 106 Raven Court, Stephens City, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at his home.

Arizona A. Henry
Arizona Ardella Henry, 99, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Mrs. Henry was born Dec. 16, 1900, in Bloomery, the daughter of John William and Bessie Virginia Brown Payne.
She was a homemaker and worked seasonally at local canning factories. She attended public schools in Morgan County, W.Va.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs, and the Ladies Aid Society.
She was married to Charles Edward Henry, who died Jan. 23, 1953.
Surviving are two grandchildren, David Lee Young of Winchester and Karen Jo Young of Berkeley Springs; five great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Marjorie M. Young and an infant daughter, are deceased.

Ronald E. Kerns
Ronald Eugene Kerns, 37, of 136 Erie Trail, Shawneeland, Winchester, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Inova-Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax.
Mr. Kerns was born Dec. 5, 1962, in Winchester, the son of Howard H. and Katherine Yvonne Fincham Kerns. He was a designer at Colonial Florist.
Surviving with his parents, of Winchester, are three sisters, Susan Williams, Linda Holt, and Karen Yount, all of Winchester; and a brother, Ricky Kerns of Winchester.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with Phil Dyett officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middletown.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preston W. Licklider Jr.
Preston Warren “Curly” Licklider Jr., 47, of Meadowbrook Place, Winchester, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Licklider was born Dec. 26, 1952, in Warren County, the son of Preston Warren and Mary Louise Purdum Licklider.
He was the golf course superintendent at Winchester Country Club and a graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents of America and the Shenandoah Valley Turfgrass Association, where he was a former treasurer.
He coached Frederick County American Little League.
He married Terry Almarode on Aug. 22, 1987, in Front Royal.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Wesley Licklider and Cody Licklider, both at home; a sister, Jane Moore of Front Royal; and a brother, Charles Paris of Ann Arbor, Mich.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David R. Burrough and the Rev. Saundra A. Nottingham officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.

Geraldine Rebecca “Becky” Ruppenthal, 78, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Mrs. Ruppenthal was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Berkeley Springs, the daughter of William Harold and Gladys Mae Beeler Eppinger.
She owned and operated Warm Springs Restaurant in Berkeley Springs for 35 years and retired in 1989.
She was a 1939 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. She was a member of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, the Morgan County Farm Bureau, and the Morgan County Republican Club.
She was a member of the Morgan County War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served on the hospital’s board of directors and advisory board.
She was a volunteer with Hospice of the Panhandle and a member of the Berkeley Springs Lions Club, where she was named a “Melvin Jones Fellow” in 1998.
She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and had sung with the choir. She was a member of United Methodist Women.
She was married to Benton Samuel Ruppenthal, who died on April 2, 1983.
Surviving are four sisters, Julia M. McBee, Ruth M. Miller, Helen J. Younker, and Evelyn F. Stotler, all of Berkeley Springs; and two brothers, Herbert L. Eppinger Sr. of Berkeley Springs and Philip B. Eppinger of Winchester.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Michael W. Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Virginia Crystal “Ginny” Shifflett, 75, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., formerly of Clear Spring, Md., died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at the home of her son in Hancock, Md.
Mrs. Shifflett was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Clear Spring, the daughter of Oliver Clinton and Mary Emma Catherine Baker Bowers.
She worked seasonally at local canning factories and had formerly worked at Sagner Sewing Factory in McConnellsburg, Pa.
She attended public schools in Baltimore. She was a member of AARP and the Lutheran faith.
She was married to Cecil Edward Shifflett, who died Jan. 6, 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Lillian Irene Roach of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Gary Wayne Shifflett of Hancock and Edward Franklin Shifflett of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Swisher, 85, of HC-78, Box 166B, Augusta, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in the E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker, W.Va.
Mrs. Swisher was born Nov. 2, 1914, in Kirby, W.Va., the daughter of Robert and Ella Shank Heare. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, Augusta.
She married Elmer “Perky” Swisher in 1932 in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Swisher died Jan. 6, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Gladys Bender of Augusta and Ruth Wilson of Rio, W.Va.; a sister, Lois Heatwole of Cumberland, Md.; three brothers, Douglas Heare and Robert Heare, both of Romney, W.Va., and Loy Heare of Baltimore; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Cheryl Y. Yates
Cheryl Y. Yates, 54, of Kearneysville, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.
Mrs. Yates was born July 27, 1946, in Winchester, the daughter of Ralph Rideout and Esther Dorsey. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, William and Cornelia Brown.
She was retired from the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
She was a member of Ethel Johnson Temple 1075, Daughters of the Elks, and Sylvannah Baptist Church in Rippon, W.Va.
She was married to Ernest E. Yates.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, John Curtis Clarke III of Inwood, W.Va., and Michael Clarke of Kearnesyville; a daughter, Lisa L. Bagwell of Martinsburg; two stepsons, Shawn Yates of Martinsburg and Conte Yates of Charles Town, W.Va.; four brothers, Ralph “Jim” Rideout Jr. of Los Angeles, David Rideout of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Gene Rideout and Vanuel “Jazz” Barbour, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister, Evita Osequera of Los Angeles; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va., with the Rev. Lawrence E. Wilson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Myerstown Cemetery.

William C. Baker Sr.
William Capon Baker Sr., 88, of Wardensville, W.Va., died Friday Oct. 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1912 in Wardensville, the son William C. and Daisy Kline Baker.
He owned and operated Pee Wee Springs Restaurant near Wardensville, worked for the County Commissioner’s office, was assessor for Hardy County, and was a Hardy County school bus driver.
He was married to Gladys Wilson Baker who died in June 1986.
Survivors include a son, William C. Baker Jr. of Wardensville; three daughters, Betty Jean Lambrecht of Fairfax, Patsy Baker of Florida, and Phyllis Ball of Front Royal; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wardensville Cemetery with the Rev. Luther “Nip” Crites officiating.

Rickie D. Fahnestock
Rickie Dale Fahnestock, 49, of 688 Woodchuck Lane, died Saturday Oct. 21, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born April 12, 1951, in Winchester, the son of Kenneth M. and Audrey N. Fauver Fahnestock.
A graduate of James Wood High School, he was a night watchman for the Winchester Livestock Exchange for 15 years. He attended Rosedale Baptist Church.
Surviving with his parents are a son, Kevin D. Miller; two sisters, Lettie Cooley of Sterling and Bonnie McIntire of Frederick County; and two brothers, Terry Fahnestock of Frederick County and Jeffrey Fahnestock of Fort Ashby.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Hayfield with Gregory Miller officiating.

John Samuel Rissler, 87, of Unita Farm in Charles Town, W.Va., died Saturday Oct. 21, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 9, 1913, the son of Warren H. and Lula Dailey Rissler.
He was married to Alice Jones Rissler for 64 years.
A graduate of Charles Town High School, he owned and operated Unita Farm.
He attended Oakland United Methodist Church in Charles town.
He was a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce (past director for seven years), Jefferson County Farm Bureau (past director and president), Farmers Cooperative Association of Berkeley and Jefferson County (president for 25 years), Jefferson County Fair Association (past director and charter member), and Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters Donna R. Hitt of Ridgeley, W.Va., and Carolyn “Mimi” Vanderhaven of Fairfax; two sons, John H. Rissler and Ronald D. Rissler, both of Charles Town; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oakland United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joanne Alexander, Richard Lambert and Kent Tice officiating.
Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

A graduate of Handley High School, she was administrative assistant for Warehouse and Commissary at Cameron Station in Alexandria.
She married William A. Rooker Jr. Dec. 18, 1948, in Winchester.
Surviving with her husband is a son, Steven T. Rooker of Winchester.
