Charles Edward Develbliss, 55, of HC-71, Box 403, Augusta, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the home of his daughter in Nokesville.
Mr. Develbliss was born June 27, 1945, in Dawson, Md., the son of Curtis Vance and Violet Ellifritz Develbliss.
He was a heating and air conditioning supervisor for General Heating Co. in Manassas.
Surviving with his father, of Ridgeley, W.Va., are a daughter, Tammy Ann Ross of Nokesville; a stepson, Jason Malcolm of Springfield, W.Va.; two sisters, Joan Witt of Mt. Savage, Md., and Patty Cochran of Galion, Ohio; a brother, Curtiss Develbliss of Florida; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, with Minister Dan Shaw officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jean Schwartzman
Jean Schwartzman, 88, of Berryville, formerly of Los Angeles and New York, died Oct. 7, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Schwartzman was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Romania, the daughter of Philip and Nettie Rothman Schneider. She worked for the CBS television network in Los Angeles.
She was married to Rubin Schwartzman.
Surviving are two sons, Bernard Schwartzman of Winchester and Alan Schwartzman of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Cecile Benson of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral was Oct. 10 at Sinai Chapel in Fresh Meadows, N.Y., with Rabbi Raffi Kanter officiating. Burial was in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y.
Pallbearers were Andrew Schwartzman, Steven Schwartzman, Cindy Kanter, Philip Benson, Adam Schwartzman, and Lee Schwartzman.

Mildred Irene DeHaven Kline, 79, of 5799 Box Elder Court, Frederick, Md., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Washington Hospital Center, Frederick.
Mrs. Kline was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., the daughter of Orville Lee and Mary Irene Morgan DeHaven. She had been a seamstress for Sagner’s Clothing and an aide for Homewood of Frederick and the former Frederick Nursing Home.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Frederick.
She was married to Raymond Leo Kline, who died Nov. 2, 1970.
Surviving are five sons, Raymond L. Kline Jr. of Windsorlocks, Conn., Ronny Kline of Clinton, Md., Barry Kline of Annandale, Kenneth Kline of Springfield, W.Va., and Glenn Kline of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Carol Ann Brinker of Prospect, Conn.; three brothers, Ralph DeHaven of Chesapeake, William DeHaven of Clearbrook, and Guy DeHaven of Stephens City; a sister, Stella Anderson of Clearbrook; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Frederick, with the Rev. Larry L. Eubanks Sr. officiating.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Shiloh Church Cemetery, Lehew, W.Va.

Kattena M. Lower, 30, of Valley Mill Road, Winchester, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at her home.
Miss Lower was born Aug. 31, 1970, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Vernon C. and Sharon A. Lower. She worked at Northwestern Workshop in Winchester.
She was in the Special Olympics in Loudoun County and Fairfax and participated at Camp Easter Seals.
Surviving are her parents, of Winchester.

Lloyd A. Hurt Jr.
Lloyd A. Hurt Jr., 53, of Wollaston Drive, Winchester, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Hurt was born June 9, 1947, in Charlottesville, the son of Lloyd A. and Lina Nicholson Hurt.
He was a disabled veteran and had served in the Army with the rank of private first class.
He was a member of Shenandoah Pentecostal Church.
Surviving with his mother, of Winchester, are two sisters, Faye Shirley and Linda Petrie, both of Stephens City.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be Jason Knight, Andy Petrie, Terry Shirley, and Glen Welsh.

Alice Lee Jenkins Hall, 75, of Hinton, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Hall was born Oct. 24, 1924, in Hardy County, W.Va., the daughter of Ross and Letha Martin Jenkins. She was a homemaker and attended Rawley Springs Mennonite Church.
She married Fred Max Hall on June 25, 1941. Mr. Hall died Sept. 30, 1985.
Surviving are three daughters, Elsie Estes of Dayton, Linda Eye of Hinton, and Wilma Bowman of Timberville; three sons, George Hall of Linville, Gary Hall of Mathias, W.Va., and Larry Hall of Timberville; five brothers, James Jenkins and Charles Jenkins, both of Winchester, Henry Jenkins and Victor Jenkins, both of Timberville, and Lyle Jenkins of Broadway; three sisters, Anna Reel of Mannington, W.Va., Faye Cooper of Winchester, and Beverly Henry of Gahanna, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grandle Funeral Home, Broadway, with Pastor Paul Reed and Pastor Keith Crider officiating. Burial will be in Newhouse Rig Cemetery, Rig, W.Va.

Katherine Mae Reid, 79, of Clearbrook, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Sarasota, Fla.
Mrs. Reid was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Millville, W.Va., the daughter of Bernard Ashley and Mary Agnes Anderson Mills.
She retired after 40 years with J.J. Newberry Co. in Charles Town, W.Va., and McCroys Co. in Winchester.
She was a life-long member of Charles Town Baptist Church, where she was in the church choir. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 of Charles Town.
She was married to Roy M. Reid. Her first husband was Frank H. Ranalli. Her second husband was Charles Carter.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lazzara of Sarasota; a son, Frank Ranalli of Ranson, W.Va.; two sisters, Ruth Estelle Swope of Ranson and Naomi R. Holder of Halltown, W.Va.; a brother, Wallace “Barney” Mills of Ranson; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A daughter, Judy Ann Peterson, is deceased.

Nina Jane Hivick, 81, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Miss Hivick was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Stotlers Crossroads, W.Va., the daughter of William Paul and Fannie Melvanie Henry Hivick. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs.
Surviving are two nieces, Rose Z. “Judy” Merica of Great Cacapon, who was her caretaker, and Vaughn Hivick Hutchison of Berkeley Springs; and two nephews, Raymond “Bumper” Merica of Roseville, Calif., and Cecil W. Hivick of Forked River, N.J.

James K. McVeigh
James K. McVeigh, 55 of Patrick Place, Stephens City, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at his home.
Mr. McVeigh was born Dec. 25, 1944, in Wythe County, the son of Lee B. and June Cormany McVeigh. He was a tooling engineer for Lear Corp. in Strasburg.
He married Carol Shelton on Aug. 15, 1969, in Chilhowie.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Valerie McVeigh Stunkle of Bowie, Md.; a son, J. Stephen McVeigh of Stephens City; and four sisters, Sylvia M. Plasters and Rosalee Osborne, both of Roanoke, Frances M. Phlegar of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Betty Hall of Marion.

The Rev. James Ford
The Rev. James Perry Elijah Ford, 98, of 1021 Cedars Drive, McPherson, Kan., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Memorial Hospital, McPherson.
The Rev. Ford was born April 17, 1902, in Alva, Okla., the son of John Melvin and Anna Frances Hawkins Ford.
He was ordained in the church of the Brethren and later in the United Church of Christ Congregational Church. He served pastorates in Colorado, Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas.
He attended Bethany Bible School and McPherson College. He received his degree from Northern Baptist Seminary in 1940 and a master of theology degree from Bethany Theological Seminary in 1941.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and the Kiwanis Club, both of McPherson.
He married Margaret Helen Dresher on Aug. 16, 1940, in Canton, Kansas. His first wife, Eva Bernice Bolinger, died April 22, 1939.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, James Paul Ford of Upland, Calif., and Peter Way Ford of Winchester; two daughters, Donna Louese Ford of Rifton, N.Y., and Merry Cynthia Walton of Perry, Iowa; a sister, Esther Miller of Erlanger, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Brethren, McPherson, with the Rev. Charles Whitacre and the Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. Burial will be in Canton Township Cemetery, Canton.

Mabel F. Updike, 72, of 1405-52 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, formerly of Front Royal, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Updike was born March 7, 1928, in Warren County, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Della Blanche Elkins Mills.
She was retired from O’Sullivan Corp. as an assembly line inspector.
Surviving are two sons, Larry E. Updike of Winchester and Glen A. Updike of Cumberland, Md.; two daughters, Delores U. Roles and Charlotte A. Updike, both of Winchester; two sisters, Dorothy I. Smith and Della M. Day, both of Front Royal; two brothers, Gilbert C. Mills and Samuel L. Mills, both of Front Royal; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Herman O. Plaugher
Herman Odell Plaugher, 67, of Mt. Jackson, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.
Mr. Plaugher was born July 11, 1933, in Conicville, the son of Herman Charles and Blanche Ross Plaugher. He was a retired truck driver and worked for Mason Dixon Lines and Smith Transfer Trucking.
He was a member of Wood’s Chapel Independent Bible Church.
He married Evelyn Pennington on Jan. 7, 1952.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Kristine Plaugher Shenk of Mt. Jackson; three sons, Timothy Odell Plaugher of Winchester, and Terry Lynn Plaugher and Tracey Allen Plaugher, both of Mt. Jackson; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dellinger Funeral Home, Mt. Jackson, with the Rev. Larry Rinard officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Clifton Cemetery.

She was born June 13, 1907, in Clarke County, the daughter of Conard Marshall and Bertha Wiley Hart.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Valley Mill Homemakers Club.
She was married to George R. Miller.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennie Whitmore of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Olive H. Carroll of Richmond; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Robert L. Miller is deceased.
