George W. Jones
George W. Jones, 94, of Fairmont Avenue, Winchester, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Jones was born Oct. 22, 1906, in Winchester, the son of Robert L. and Lillie E. Baer Jones. He had been a postman with the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1955.
He served in the Army Reserve.
He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and the National Association for the Advancement of Science. He had been a member of the McIlwee Band, Handley High School Band, the Odd Fellows, Boy Scouts of America, Friendship Fire Company, and head of rescue and first aid for the American Red Cross.
He was an inventor and held eight patents, including a fire alarm, humane dog muzzle, and a mechanical heart and lung.
He married Alice V. Estep on Nov. 28, 1928.
Surviving with his wife, are two daughters, Ann Elizabeth Jones of Richmond and Douglas B. Jones of Virginia Beach; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Hebron Cemetery, with Dr. James H. Utt officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home.

Jane S. Taylor
Jane Scully Taylor, 91, of Greeneville, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in Wellington Place of Greeneville.
Mrs. Taylor was born Sept. 11, 1909, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Mary Scully.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Falling Springs in Chambersburg, Pa., where her husband was the pastor for 45 years.
She was a graduate of Dennison University in Granville, Ohio.
She was a member of the Childrens Aid Society, American Association of University Women, Wellesley Club, and Chambersburg Garden Club. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader and Cub Scout den mother.
She was married to Dr. Rodney T. Taylor.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Van Buskirk of Greeneville and Jane Taylor Fox of Pittsburgh; a son, Rodney T. Taylor Jr. of San Rafael, Calif.; two sisters, Eleanor White of Winchester and Mary Olney of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, Greeneville, with the Rev. Dan Donaldson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Simion Room of the church.

Francis E. Magaha
Francis Eugene “Mac” Magaha, 90, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson,W.Va.
Mr. Magaha was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Jefferson County, W.Va., the son of John Henry and Margaret Ann Myers Magaha.
He was associated for many years with Magaha Inc. of Ranson, W.Va., and had worked for Cecil Eby in Charles Town.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, and a former member of Citizens Fire Company in Charles Town.
He was married to Clara Janney for 63 years.
Surviving are three sisters, Kathleen Samspell of Falling Waters, W.Va., Elizabeth Adams of Rippon, W.Va., and Betty Slaughter of Frederick, Md.; and two brothers, Newton Magaha of Denton, Md., and Glenn Magaha of Frederick.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with Dr. Richard Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery.

Rosella B. Fiddler
Rosella Belle Fiddler, 76, of 300 Millwood Ave., Winchester, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Fiddler was born Oct. 4, 1924, in White Hall, the daughter of Howard J. and Lilie Braithwait Shirley. She was retired as a production worker with Glaize Packing Co.
She was a member of Stephenson United Methodist Church.
She married Charles H. Fiddler on Sept. 30, 1944, in Winchester. Mr. Fiddler died Aug. 22, 1977.
Surviving are a son, Russell Fiddler of Winchester; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Old Stone Cemetery.

Patricia Hedrick
Patricia Hedrick, 66, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Mrs. Hedrick was born April 23, 1934, in Middlesex, England. She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Newton D. Baker Post 896 of the VFW, Chapter 738 of the Women of the Moose, and the Berkeley Senior Services.
She was married to Joseph R. Hedrick.
Surviving with her husband, are three sons, Robert J. Hedrick of Bloomery, W.Va., Oland J. Hedrick of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Michael W. Hedrick at home; a daughter, Donna Lynne James at home; a brother, Arnold Swain of Scotland; and six grandchildren.
Two sons, David Michael Hedrick and Brian Scott Hedrick; and a daughter, Ellen Jane Hedrick, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Dan Dugan officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
Patsy A. Pangle
Patsy Ann Supinger Pangle, 58, of 833 Minebank Road, Middletown, died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Pangle was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Shenandoah County, the daughter of Robert and Goldie Williams Supinger. She was co-owner of Pangle Trucking L.C.
She was a member of Laurel Hill Christian Church, Women of the Moose Chapter 1319 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 77, both of Strasburg, and Winchester Eagles Aerie 824 Auxiliary.
She was married to Dennie Pangle.
Surviving with her husband, are two sons, Robert Barrow of Strasburg and Carroll Lynn Pangle of Edinburg; two daughters, Paula K. Hawkins of Ruther Glen and Christia L. Neff of Middletown; four brothers, Frank Lewis of Stephenson, Robert Supinger of Mauertown, John Supinger of Toms Brook, and Donnie Supinger of Rogersville, Tenn.; a sister, Linda Weekly of Toms Brook; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Robert C. Blinn officiating. Burial will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Warren County.

Joseph T. “Punky” Ransom Jr., 56, of North Braddock Street, Winchester, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Ransom was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Winchester, the son of Joseph T. and Betty Johnson Ransom. He was a machine operator at Ashworth Brothers and a member of St. Stephens A.M.E. Church.
Surviving are three sons, Joseph N. Ransom and Jerome T. Ransom, both of Winchester, and Jason W. Ransom of Stephens City; a sister, Faye Sistruck of Clio, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.

Catherine V. Sloat
Catherine Virginia Sloat, 69, of Front Royal, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Warren Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Sloat was born May 3, 1931, in Sperryville, a daughter of Nathaniel and Josie Florence Dodson.
She was married to William Robert Sloat.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Sloat Sr., and Donald E. Sloat, both of Front Royal; a brother, William Harold Dodson of Front Royal; a sister, Loney F. Strother of Front Royal; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grim was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Winchester, the daughter of Wilbur and Retha Miller McCarty. She grew up in the home of Ray and Janet Miller of Winchester.
She was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church.
She married Thomas G. Grim on Jan. 25, 1969, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Grim died Sept. 5, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Grim of Winchester; a sister, Alice VanMeter of Winchester; and longtime companion David F. Brackett Sr. of Charlestown, W.Va.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 9, 1906, in Frederick County, the daughter of George Robert and Louesa Frances Weakley Lillard. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the administrative council of the church.
She was married to John William Smith, who died March 29, 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Mildred Smith Todd of Winchester; a son, Robert Westwood Smith of Winchester; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stoneberger was born April 15, 1934, in Page County, the daughter of Willis D. and Sudie M. Aleshire Kibler.
Surviving with her mother, are a son, Willis Allen Stoneberger of Front Royal; four daughters, Brenda McCoy and Debbie Shenk, both of Stanley, and Lenora Faye Naumann and Anna Maria Butler, both of Front Royal; five brothers, Wade D. Kibler, Virgil Linwood Kibler, and Harold Leon Kibler, all of Luray, Emanuel Cletus Kibler of Stanley, and Earl Franklin Kibler of Oakton; two sisters, Madeline Christine Cline of Gettysburg, Pa., and Katherine Jeanette Phillips of Luray; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
