William Jerome Dudley, 44, of Summit Point, W.Va., formerly of Eastern Shore, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Dudley was born May 8, 1956, in Quitman, Ga., the son of Willie L. and Mattie Newson Dudley.
Surviving with his mother, of Plant City, Fla., are four children, William J. Reid and Antwaine Reid, both of Machiponga, Demonta Westcott of Salsburg, Md., and Willie Albritten of Plant City; five sisters, Rachael Mays, Willielee Opaltree, and Geneva Forbs, all of Plant City, Rosalee White of Valdosta, Ga., and Lola Dudley of Miami; and five brothers, Robert Dudley of Summit Point, Jimmy Dudley of Fort Myers, Fla., John Dudley and Sylvester Dudley, both of Valdosta, and Roosevelt Dudley of St. Petersburg, Fla.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Plant City. Burial will be in The Garden of Peace Cemetery, Plant City.

Hannah L. Long
Hannah Lee Long, 65, of 432-2 N. Kent St., Winchester, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Long was born May 25, 1935, in Red Spring, N.C., the daughter of Calvin L. McLaughlin and Dora McAllister.
She was a member of St. Stephens C.M.E. Church, Winchester, where she sang with the choir.
She was married to Noah R. Long Jr.
Surviving are her long-time companion, Joe Gilkerson of Winchester; four sons, Joseph Long of Newark, N.J., Daniel Long of Baumholder, Germany, John Phoenix Long of Winchester, and Paul Dennis Long of Aalborg, Denmark; three daughters, Linda Doreatha Long and Joyce Ann Long, both of Winchester, and Faye Juanita Long of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Elizabeth Jackson of Fayetteville; five brothers, Bishop John McLaughlin of Newark, James McLaughlin of Washington, D.C., and Bishop Jake McLaughlin, Joe McLaughlin, and Bobby McLaughlin, all of Fayetteville; and 23 grandchildren.
Another son, Noah Randall Long III, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephens C.M.E. Church, with the Rev. Bryan Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Orrick Cemetery, Winchester.

R. Carroll Saville
R. Carroll Saville, 86, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mr. Saville was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Berkeley County, W.Va., the son of James W. and Nancy Shroades Saville.
He was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church, Bunker Hill, and the South Berkeley Senior Citizens.
He was married to Dorothy McMillan Saville.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Steven L. Saville of Strasburg; a brother, William Lee Saville of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Another son, Robert C. Saville Jr., is deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Khrista Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Virginia A. Cowgill
Virginia Alice Cowgill, 87, of 102 Emerson Ave., Glen Burnie, Md., formerly of Paw Paw, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in North Anne Arundel Hospital, Baltimore.
Mrs. Cowgill was born April 28, 1913, in Largent, W.Va., the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Eaton Bailey. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Paw Paw.
She was married to Welby Cowgill, who died July 4, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruby Byers of Baltimore and Freida Bowen of Glen Burnie; two sons, Kenneth Kerns of Glen Burnie and Darrell Cowgill of Newark, Del.; a sister, Norma Bryson of Winchester; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating. Burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery, Paw Paw.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Dakota R. Rankin
Dakota Riley Rankin, 6 months, of Pocono Place, Stephens City, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
He was born March 25, 2000, in Winchester, the son of David N. Rankin and Erika R. Weigand.
Surviving with his parents, of Stephens City, are two sisters, Bryce Elizabeth Page and Hailee Nicole Rankin, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Louis L. and Patricia L. Riley Osborn of Stephens City; his paternal grandparents, Warren Junior Rankin and Deborah Jean Jenkins Rankin of Winchester; his maternal great-grandmother, Barbara Elizabeth Riley of Artesia, N.M.; and his maternal great-great-grandmother, Patsy Carpenter of Boyce.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Jones Funeral Home, Stephens City, with the Rev. John Ericson officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery, Frederick County.

George J. Dofflemyer Jr.
George Jacob “Jay” Dofflemyer Jr., 50, of 108 Forked Horn Trail, Winchester, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Mr. Dofflemyer was born March 9, 1950, in Winchester, the son of George Jacob and Helen Virginia Myers Dofflemyer. He was a maintenance technician with Cambridge Corp.
He was an Air Force veteran and a 1969 graduate of Clarke County High School.
He was a member of Berryville VFW Post 9760, Berryville Moose Lodge 2139, American Legion Post 21, and Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 824.
Surviving with his mother, of Berryville, is a sister, Linda Tavenner of Berryville; and a brother, Dean Dofflemyer of Berryville.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Dr. William E. Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.

Arthur Ray Core, 65, of Winchester, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in the V.A. Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Mr. Core was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Round Hill, the son of Vetal and Lillie Core. He was manager of Overbrook Farm in Round Hill for over 40 years.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Hamilton Ruritan Club, the Winchester American Legion, and the Berryville Moose Lodge.
He was past chief and president of the Upperville Volunteer Fire Department and past president of the Loudoun DHIA.
He was married to Peggy Lloyd Core.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Terri Core of Purcellville; a brother, Walter L. Core of Virginia Beach; a sister, Betty M. McKnight of Connecticut; and a grandson.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home, Purcellville. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Round Hill.

Mary A. Edwards
Mary Ann Edwards, 58, of West Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., formerly of Herndon, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Hospice of West Palm Beach County.
Miss Edwards was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Martinsburg, W.Va., the daughter of Clifton P. Edwards Sr. and Ann Katherine Meyer.
She was a medical laboratory technician at Fairfax Hospital and retired in 1996.
She graduated from Jupiter High School in Jupiter, Fla.
Surviving with her mother, of West Palm Beach Gardens, and her father, of Winchester, are two sisters, Leslie Edwards Boyd and Beverly Edwards Ball, both of Winchester; and two brothers, Clifton P. Edwards Jr. of Linden and Michael Meyer of West Palm Beach Gardens.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, Winchester, with the Rev. Richard Reifsnyder officiating. Inurnment will be private.
Douglas A. Lowrie Jr.
Douglas A. Lowrie Jr., 29, of Jones Road, Winchester, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Lowrie was born Nov. 22, 1970, in Delray Beach, Fla., the son of Douglas A. and Judith D. Oliver Lowrie.
He was owner and president of Blackhawk Electrical Service in Winchester.
He married Sherrie L. Saunders on April 17, 1992, in Leesburg.
Surviving with his wife and his parents, of Telford, Tenn., are a son, Brian Douglas Lowrie of Winchester; and a sister, Lynn Lowrie of Telford.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Keithley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Mary K. Stemmer
Mary Kay Stemmer, 46, of Boyce, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at her home.
Ms. Stemmer was born Sept. 25, 1954, in Dayton, the daughter of John and Betty Trubee Stemmer.
She was a registered nurse and had worked for 10 years in critical care nursing at Kettering Medical Center and the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston.
She was a master gardener. She attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Fairfax.
She married Philip M. Nostrand on May 10, 1986, in Dayton.
Surviving with her husband and her parents, of Beaver Creek, Ohio, are a son, Maxwell Edward Nostrand at home; and three sisters, Karen Cox of Union, Ohio, Betty Stemmer of Xenia, Ohio, and Patty Lee of Beaver Creek.
A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Calvary Baptist Church, Fairfax, with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Willetts officiating.

Arthur L. Golightly
Arthur L. Golightly, 87, of Union Town, Ohio, formerly of Florida and Virginia, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Union Town.
Mr. Golightly was born June 16, 1913, in Clarke County, the son of Dickson and Elizabeth “Bessie” Costello Golightly.
He was a truck driver and retired in 1985.
He was an avid bowler and a member of the Lions Club.
He married Gladys Virginia Shutts on June 15, 1935, in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Golightly died July 6, 1969.
Surviving are four sons, Robert Golightly of Union Town, Richard Golightly of Winterhaven, Fla., Arthur Steven Golightly of Defunuak Springs, Fla., and Michael Golightly of Vacaville, Calif.; three sisters, Marietta Childs of Berryville, Velma Dwyer of Middletown, and Catherine Campbell of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Jerry Lee Golightly and Gary Lee Golightly, are deceased.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Devin B. Ward officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Lloyd L. Lawrence
Lloyd Lee Lawrence, 74, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Lawrence was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Martinsburg, the son of Earl R. and Hazel P. Howie Lawrence. He retired in 1987 after 25 years as a production technician for Mack Truck Co. in Hagerstown, Md. He had formerly worked for Fairfield Aircraft and A.R. Emery.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Wilson DD408.
He was a member of the Naval War Memorial, USS Kidd, Louisiana; the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas; and the U.S. Naval Memorial in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of the National Arbor Society, West Virginia Farm Bureau, Berkeley Post 14 of the American Legion, UAW Local 171, and the Charity Revival Center in Martinsburg. He was a life member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 of the VFW.
He was married to Jeannie C. Reynard. His first wife was Audrey G. Lawrence.
Surviving with his wife are a son, David L. Lawrence of Winchester; three daughters, Patricia H. Layton of Winchester, Dianne M. Mills of Martinsburg, and Janice K. Albright of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two stepsons, Larry Wolfe and Ronnie Wolfe, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; a brother, Lewis Donald Lawrence of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A son, Thomas L. Lawrence, is deceased.
A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Frank Marcum officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the Martinsburg Veterans Combined Honor Guard.

Katherine S. Casilear
Katherine Slaughter Casilear, 77, of 163 Stewart St., Winchester died Sunday Oct. 1, 2000, in a local nursing home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Winchester and was the daughter of Samuel A. and Frances Finfrock Slaughter.
She was a homemaker and member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. She was a 1940 graduate of Handley High School.
She married William B. Casilear March 15, 1947, in Rockville, Md. He died Feb. 22, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Casilear Mitchell of Winchester; a step-son, William B. Casilear Jr. of Stephens City; a sister Lucille Flaherty of Winchester; and two brothers, Samuel A. Slaughter Jr. and Charles P. Slaughter, both of Florida.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with the Rev. Mary Beth Binn officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Edna B. Combs
Edna Bell Miller Combs, 92, of Mathias, W. Va., died Sept. 30, 2000, at the E. A. Hawse Continuous Care Center in Baker, W. Va.
The daughter of the Rev. Lorenzo and Mancravi Miller, she was born Jan. 18, 1908, in Hardy County, W. Va.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Dale Church of the Brethren, near Baker.
She married Harry Nicholas Combs on Feb. 14, 1925.
Survivors include two sons, Harlan Combs of Lost City, W. Va. and Lawrence Combs of Mathias; nine daughters, Evilee Barb of Fulks Run, Constance Mongold of Lost City, Lorene Whetzel, Vivian Teets, Margart Sandstrom, and Rosetta Combs, all of Mathias, Nina Shoemaker of Winchester; Juanita Funkhouser of Harrisonburg, and Maxine Abrell of Capon Bridge, W. Va.; 53 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 38 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Dale Church of the Brethren in Baker. Burial will be in the New Dale Cemetery.

Carl C. Haines
Carl Conway Haines, 72, of Bunker Hill, W. Va., died Friday Sept. 29, 2000 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Born Dec. 25, 1927 in Moorefield, W. Va., he was the son of Russell L. and Cora Carroll Haines.
He was a correction officer for the Maryland Correctional System. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Moose Club, both in Charles Town, W. Va.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict . He received the Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel F. Mangold Haines; a son, Harlan C. Haines of Bunker Hill; a brother, Ralph L. Haines; a sister, Carol Jean Nutter of Ranson, W. Va.; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W. Va. with the Evangelist Leroy K. “Skip” Hurley Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Clarence E. Harman
Clarence E. Harman, 86, of 201 Morrison Road, Stephenson, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Stephenson. He was the son of Edward Jacob and Virginia Shreck Harman.
He was retired from Crown Cork and Seal. He attended Stephenson United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his niece, Tonya Dovey; and two nephews, M. L. Morrison and Freddie Burleson.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Bedford R. Sisk
Bedford Rinker (Beck) Sisk, 78, of Rectortown died Sept. 29, 2000, in the V. A. Hospital, Martinsburg, W. Va.
He was the son of Smith and Emma Ellis Sisk.
He was a retired truck driver and heavy equipment operator in the Marshall and Middleburg area.
He was a veteran of World War II and was in the initial assault in the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded five battle stars and one arrowhead.
Survivors include a brother, Hubert Leroy(Sonny) Sisk of Winchester; and six sisters, Dorothy Ellis of Front Royal, Mollie Payne, Virginia Wines, and Pearlie Williams, all of Marshall, Peggy Sisk and Betty Lou Gray, both of Luray.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Upperville.
