Helen C. Racey
Helen Clark Racey, 76, of 662 Passage Road, Winchester, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Racey was born March 7, 1924, in Bartonsville, the daughter of Tovella E.P. and Margaret Emmert Clark. She was a sales clerk at several local clothing stores and retired after 55 years.
She graduated from Stephens City High School in 1942.
She was a member of Salem Church of the Brethren and the AARP.
She married Ralph R. Racey on Nov. 10, 1943, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Racey died in 1981.
Surviving are three sisters, Grace Malone, Dorothy Whitacre, and Gertrude Messick, all of Winchester; and a brother, Roy Clark of Winchester.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Green Hill Cemetery, with Dr. Ken H. Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Lee Messick, Matthew Messick, Kevin Messick, Robert Clark, Larry Clark, and Jerry Clark.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Francis S. Rickard
Francis Strother Rickard, 85, of 862 Clark Road, Stephens City, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Rickard was born April 5, 1915, in Middletown, the son of Ernest Dale and Frances Strother Gordon Rickard.
He was a retired farmer and a Frederick County Public Schools bus driver with 29 years of service. He previously served a year with the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Middletown.
He was married to Mabel Catherine Ryman.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, F. Denzil Rickard of Lebanon Church, William Chester Rickard of Franklin, W.Va., and Roger Rickard and Larry Eugene Rickard, both of Stephens City; two daughters, Linda Catherine McDonald and Peggy Marie Flemings, both of Stephens City; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with Pastor Larry W. Veach and the Rev. W. Chester Rickard officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Middletown.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Donald R. White Jr.
Donald Richard White Jr., 56, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mr. White was born July 10, 1944, in Winchester, the son of Donald Richard and Annie Mae Kirk White.
He was a painter.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanna Jenkins of Charles Town; and a granddaughter.
A private service is planned.

Randolph S. Getts Sr.
Randolph Seldon Getts Sr., 57, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Mr. Getts was born Oct. 2, 1943, in Kearneysville, W.Va., the son of Lloyd Franklin and Julia Virginia Sprinkle Getts.
He had worked for Carl Collis Painting Contractors of Leesburg and formerly worked with B&G Painting Contractors of Rippon, W.Va.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Expert and Marksmanship badges.
He was a member of American Legion Post 21 of Berryville.
He married Eden M. Dodson on June 20, 1981.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Randolph S. “Jay” Getts Jr. of Charles Town; a daughter, Sandra Virginia Getts of Charles Town; seven stepchildren, Christopher Heflin of Berryville, James A. Dodson, Dwayne Dodson, Theresa Dodson, and Mary Dodson, all of Charles Town, Angela Dodson of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Robert Dodson Jr. of Middleway, W.Va.; three brothers, Elmer Getts of Inwood, W.Va., Franklin Getts of Charles Town, and Robert Getts of Rippon; and 15 grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Mike Withem officiating. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery, Middleway, W.Va.

Theodore R. Taylor
Theodore Roosevelt Taylor, 64, of 109 N. Buckmarsh St., Berryville, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Shenandoah, the son of Lewis Franklin and Mary Catherine Toston Taylor.
He was in the Army from 1954 to 1958 and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of Winchester American Legion Post 21, the Winchester VFW, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He and his wife, Erika Taylor, were married on March 11, 1958, in Unteransbach, Germany.
Surviving with his wife and his mother, of Shenandoah, are two sons, Ernest Taylor of Berryville and Robert Taylor of North Carolina; two daughters, Kathy Taylor and Donna Spaulding, both of North Carolina; a brother, Lester Taylor of Harrisonburg; four sisters, Frances Butler of Lynchburg, Shirley Ellis of Luray, and Mary Rife and Doris Breeden, both of Shenandoah; and a grandson.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with Pastor James Fritter Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, with military honors by the Winchester VFW.
Pallbearers will be Bill Spaulding, Robert Taylor, Ernest Taylor, David Taylor, Ronnie Ashby, and Allen Ashby.

Susan Lynn Wells O’Bryan, 19, of 972 Filbert St., Stephens City, formerly of Greenville, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Mrs. O’Bryan was born July 14, 1981, in Staunton, the daughter of Clarence E. Wells Jr. and Susan Hiner Wells.
She attended Riverheads High School.
She was a member of Lighthouse Full Gospel Church of Stephens City.
She was married to Benjamin David O’Bryan.
Surviving with her husband and her mother are her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wells Sr. of Staunton; her maternal grandmother, Laquitta Sandridge of Staunton; two brothers, Michael Allen Wells of Pennsylvania and Charles Elwood Wells of Oklahoma; and three sisters, Jacquelyn Annette Thompson of Florida, Christinia Elizabeth Phillips of Greenville, and Rebecca Aminee Saunders of Waynesboro.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft, with the Rev. Wayne Simmons and Pastor Paul Markee officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro.

Closia C. King, 78, of 214 Allison St., Winchester, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. King was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Warren County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Harris Champ.
She was a cook at the Winchester-Frederick County Detention Center.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, the Missionary and Improvement clubs, and the Willing Workers. She had been president of the American Baptist Women Auxiliary.
She was married to Eugene Wesley King.
Surviving are a son, Jerry Wayne King of York, Pa.; a daughter, Closia Gene Mason of Winchester; a sister, Hattie Jiggetts of Bronx, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. John G. Scott Sr. and Pastor Gilbert M. Mack Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Orrick Cemetery, Winchester.

Margaret Virginia Jett, 64, of Washington, Va., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Ms. Jett was born March 23, 1936, in Huntly, the daughter of William R. and Erma B. Jordan Jett.
She was retired from the S.S.I. service in McLean.
She was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Flint Hill, where she was an usher on the Usher Board and active member of the kitchen committee. She was a member of the former Pastor’s Aide Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret S. Jett of Front Royal; a son, William Francis Carter Jr. of Front Royal; a sister, Leanna Jett of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Simpkins officiating. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery, Huntly.
Pallbearers will be William Carter, Henry Jett, Charles Jordan, Eugene Jordan, Lloyd Rollins Jr., Smith Roy, and George Turner.

William C. Bucher, 66, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Bucher was born May 2, 1934, in Falls Church, the son of Payton and Effie Dyke Bucher.
He was a truck driver with P.I.E. Truck Lines and had retired.
He was an Army veteran.
He was married to Lilly Kisling.
Surviving are two sons, David E. Bucher of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Preston C. Bucher of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

Odessa Elizabeth Martin, 62, of 901 Sulfur Spring Rd., Winchester, died Friday Sept. 22, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 8, 1938, in Winchester, the daughter of Asbury and Hazel Green Swartz.
She was a member of Stines Chapel Church.
She married Chester R. Martin Jr. on Sept. 13, 1954, in Winchester.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Roy K. Martin and Steve A. Martin, both of Winchester; three daughters, Crystal M. Barton and Lidean R. Mitchell, both of Winchester, and Wilma V. Dillow of Stephens City; three sisters, Freda M. Ferrell of Freeburn, Ky., Barbara A. Moore of Monrovia, Md., and Carol Lee Shrewsbury of Maryland; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a niece, Cherryl Lynn Gnegy of Star Tannery, whom she raised.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Rosedale Baptist Church, Winchester, with Dr. Ken Smith officiating. Burial will be in Grange Hall Cemetery, Frederick County.

Lena G. Kerr
Lena Gray Kerr, 93, of 4675 North Frederick Pike, Winchester, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Kerr was born Feb. 14, 1907, in Middletown, the daughter of Edgar and Anna Cooley McDonald.
She was retired as a registered nurse in San Francisco. She graduated from nursing school in New York.
She married William Kerr in 1944 in California.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
A private service is planned.

Ona Bess Miller Lee, 84, formerly of Winchester, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000.
Mrs. Lee was born April 10, 1916, in Winslow, Ark., the daughter of Oda and Hattie Miller.
She was married to Robert E. Lee.
Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Sandra B. Hawkins of Ellicott City, Md., and Virginia E. Lee of Winchester; a son, Robert E. Lee Jr. of Warrenton; three sisters, Kathleen Williams, Lilah Riddle, and Pearl Patten; two brothers, William Miller and Charles Miller; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today in Union Cemetery, Leesburg.

Loris E. Wilson
Loris E. “Ed” Wilson, 73, of Alta Vista Drive, Winchester, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Wilson was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Lynchburg, the son of Bennie Comer Wilson and Julia Melissa Marshall Wilson.
He was a retired construction superintendent for Miller and Smith Construction Co. in McLean.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the 6th Marine Division.
He married Noris Bartley Barnett on Dec. 31, 1967, in Frederick County.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Valerie A. Gulliford of Centreville, Lori Evelyn Harmon of Craigsville, and Lynn Ellen Wilson of Winchester; a stepson, Bruce Arnold Barnett of Front Royal; two brothers, Nolan Wilson of Manassas and Bennie Wilson of Bentonville; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Andes officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

James Wilbur “Shorty” Laing, 72, of Front Royal, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Mr. Laing was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Rappahannock County, the son of Mammie Rutherford and Charles Grandville Laing.
He was a plumber for S.W. Brooks and retired after more than 30 years.
He was married to Virginia Lockamy. His first wife, Lillian Pauline Derflinger, is deceased.
Surviving with Mrs. Laing are six sons, Gary Lynn Laing of Georgia, Dennis Deane Laing and Timothy Scott Laing, both of Front Royal, John Goodnough of West Virginia, James Goodnough of Michigan, and Mark Goodnough of Winchester; three daughters, Robin Yvonne Mitchell and Janet Leigh Saffelle, both of Front Royal, and Nancy Hensley of Michigan; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Paul Roscoe Nesslerodt, 77, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Shenandoah Health and Rehabilitation Center, Charles Town.
Mr. Nesslerodt was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Grant County, W.Va., the son of John A. and Naomi Berg Nesslerodt.
He was owner and operator of Paul’s Wood Products, Charles Town, and had been a building contractor and land developer in Jefferson County, W.Va.
He was a member of Childs Road Church of God, Middleway, W.Va.
He married Rose M. Foley on June 22, 1951, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Paul J. Nesslerodt of Charles Town, Michael T. Nesslerodt of Inwood, W.Va., and Charles R. Nesslerodt of Berryville; three daughters, Gerri Y. Higdon of Leetown, W.Va., Connie S. Glaser of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Stephanie G. McDonald of Inwood; six sisters, Esther Jones of Elk Garden, W.Va., Evaline Ray of Blythville, Ark., Maxine Nelson of Maysville, W.Va., Pauline Marple of Gormania, W.Va., Betty Feaster of Petersburg, W.Va., and Sandra Kay Mauzy of Dorcas, W.Va.; four brothers, John A. Nesslerodt Jr. of Burlington, W.Va., Ray Nesslerodt of Mt. Storm, W.Va., Robert Nesslerodt of Keyser, W.Va., and Roger Nesslerodt of Maysville; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James A. Jacobs
James Allen “JJ” Jacobs, 39, of Capon Bridge, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, W.Va., as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Jacobs was born March 28, 1961, in Baltimore, the son of
Elijaa A. Jacobs and Jewel Gibbs Jacobs.
He was a mechanic for C.C. Johnson Co., Chantilly, and had worked for William A. Hazel Co., Chantilly, for seven years.
He had received many safe driving awards.
Surviving with his father, of Chipley, Fla., and his mother, of Augusta, W.Va., are a son, Dana Lee Jacobs of Augusta; and two sisters, Judy Ann Jacobs and Machell Lynn Whitt, both of Augusta.
A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Augusta Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jack Wardrope officiating. Burial will be in Green Lane Cemetery, Delray, W.Va.
