Forest Riggleman
Forest “Hoby” Riggleman, 73, of 2737 Senseny Road, Winchester died Friday March 23, 2001, in the Winchester Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Hardy County, W.Va., the son of Roy Gipson and Mary Susan Simmons Riggleman.

He was retired from the federal government, Department of Defense, Ft. Belvoir. He was owner and operator of Sky View Acres cattle farm in Frederick County.

He served in the Army during the Korean War, was a member of Berryville Moose Lodge, N.A.L.F., Angus Association, 4-H Club, and attended Rosedale Baptist Church.

He married Mildred Lewis Riggleman July 31, 1948, in Franconia.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Riggleman of Springfield; three brothers, Glenn Riggleman of Westernport, Md., Elvin Riggleman and Roy Riggleman Jr., both of Petersburg, W.Va.; and five sisters, Nellie Weatherholtz of Moorefield, W.Va., Mary Ellen Mauzy and Irene Iman, both of Petersburg, W.Va., Vista Eskridge of Winchester, and Dixie Mauzy of Springfield.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Rosedale Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Mayer and Dr. Ken Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the church. Enders and Shirley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Winchester Medical Center Nursing Scholarship Fund, 1840 Amherst St., Winchester 22601 or to Greenwood Volunteer Fire Co., 809 Greenwood Road, Winchester 22602.

Edward R. Rhodes
Edward “Pete” R. Rhodes, 70, of Romney, W.Va., died Friday March 23, 2001, in Winchester Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Romney, the son of Carl Allen and Mary Wolford Rhodes Sr.

He was retired from the Davy Tree Company. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a member of the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101, and the American Legion Hampshire Post 91.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana L. Hinkle of Romney; a brother Carl A. Rhodes of Romney; a companion, Helen Berklite of Winchester; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Shaffer Funeral home with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating. Burial will be in Malick Cemetery in Augusta, W.Va. Military graveside rites will be by the veterans organizations of Hampshire County.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.

Kay F. Jones
Kay Frances Jones, 57, of 909 Opequon Ave., Winchester died Saturday March 24, 2001, in the Winchester Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 21, 1943, in Winchester, the daughter of Clarence and Frances Rinker Hausenfluck.

She had been a cashier at Target. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Gore.

She married Robert J. Jones Sept. 18, 1969, in Winchester.

Surviving with her husband and mother, both of Winchester are two daughters, Amanda Jones of Winchester and Roberta Varner of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; a son, James Jones of Winchester; and a sister, Bonnie Link of Stephenson.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home in Stephens City with Dr. J.P. Roby officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Pallbearers will be James Jones, Gary Owens, Chelsie Varner, Carl Rinker Jr., Fred Drummond, and Charles Boles Jr.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Earl D. Brock
Earl Douglas “Doug” Brock, 35, of 485 Rolling Ridge Lane, Winchester, formerly of Rock Hill, S.C., died Thursday March 22, 2001, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

He was employed with Giant Foods of Baltimore. He attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Keller and Penny Brock of Winchester; his mother and step-father, Inez and Russ Manuel of Edgewood, Md.; grandmother, Sarah Pate Brock of Staunton; step-grandparents, Ned and Dorothy Wolfe of Winchester; two step-brothers, Kenny Eckenrode and Shane Eckenrode, both of Winchester; and two step-sisters, Jill Murphy of Manchester, Md. and Beth Smith of Bel Air, Md.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, Rock Hill, with the Rev.Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery.

The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Johns Hopkins Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program, Dr. Michael T. Boyle, 600 N. Wolfe St., Baltimore 21287.

Allen Whitacre
Allen Whitacre, 66, of 105 Hillview Drive, Woodbury, Tenn., died Thursday March 22, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Gainesboro, the son of Ore and Mary Ann Whitacre.

He was married to Montie Smallwood Whitacre.

He was a retired service technical writer with Ryder. He served in the Army in Korea.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Whitacre of Winchester, Robert Whitacre of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Marty Whitacre of Texas; two daughters, Jill Hutchins Moore of Murfreesboro and Julie Sadler of Woodbury; three brothers, Elwood, Calvin, and Ralph Whitacre, all of Winchester; a sister Madeline Adams of Winchester and seven grandchildren.

A funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday March 24, 2001, at the Woodbury Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Earl Nichols officiating. Burial was in Riverside Gardens Cemetery.

Clyde H. Feathers Jr.
Clyde Henry Feathers Jr., 66, of 332 Copp Road, Strasburg, died Saturday March 24, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Feathers was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Shenandoah County, the son of Clyde Henry and Louise Mae Putnam Feathers. He was a retired truck driver with Aileen and retired from Southeastern Container in Winchester. He was a member of the Christian Newcomer Church, Toms Brook.

Surviving with his wife Patricia Dinges Feathers are a daughter, Vicki Ann Shelton of Toms Brook; a son, Michael A. Feathers of Strasburg; a brother, Tilden E. Feathers of Toms Brook; two sisters, Ella Jenkins and Eleanor Brooks, both of Strasburg; and a grandson.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, with the Rev. Fred Lentz officiating. Burial will follow in Fishers Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Green, Timothy Carter, James E. Kibler, Roland Bagnell, Steven Helsley, and Paul A. Rinker.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will meet there at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, 22601.

Blanche L. Thornhill
Blanche Lazenby Thornhill, 83, of Culpeper died Saturday March 24, 2001, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

She was born March 28, 1917, in Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of Robert Edward and Blanche Dinwiddie Lazenby.

She graduated from James Madison College and Bluefield College. She was a teacher in the Culpeper County School System. She was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church, Kay Culpeper Circle, T.E.L. Sunday School Class, chair of Flower Committee of the Culpeper Garden Club, Culpeper Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and Culpeper Rescue Squad Auxiliary.

She was married to Otis R. Thornhill Jr.

Survivors including her husband of Culpeper are two daughters, Susan T. Morris of Winchester and Pamela T. Harris of Culpeper; two sons, Otis R. Thornhill III and Robert E. Thornhill, both of Richmond; three sisters, Mary Thompson and Martha Jeter Richardson, both of Bluefield, W.Va., and Nancy Grey Stables of Culpeper; and 10 grandchildren.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Culpeper Baptist Church with the Rev. John S. Farrar and Dr. Ted Fuson officiating. Burial will be in Culpeper Masonic Cemetery. Clore-English Funeral Home, Culpeper, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Charles W. Racey
Charles W. Racey, 85, of Ewings Lane, Stephens City, died Saturday March 24, 2001, at the home of his sister.

He was born Sept. 19, 1915, the son of Robert William and Ruth Williams Racey.

He was a farmer and a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include a sister, Alcesta R. “Benny” Dyke of Stephenson; and a brother, Lester E. Racey of Winchester.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home Chapel/Winchester with Pastor Parker Thompson officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Frederick County.

Pallbearers will be Phillip R. Racey, Paul S. Racey, Granville Dellinger, John Murphy, Max Largent, Allen Baker, Robert D. Racey, and Martin Racey.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Clarence H. Clifton
Clarence Harold Clifton, 76, of Front Royal died Sunday March 25, 2001, in Heritage Hall.

Mr. Clifton was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Jane Lew, W.Va., the son of William J. and Ida Belle Ware Clifton.

He was a mechanic for 44 years, retiring in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Emma J. Frye Clifton; a son, James H. Clifton of Bel Air, Md.; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Waterlick, with the Rev. Merlin Shorb officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.

Geanious Service
A graveside service for James Geanious, whose obituary was published Feb. 9, 2001, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, in Mount Hebron Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Phillips will officiate.

Carlton R. Bailey
Carlton Randolph Bailey, 71, of Lot 48, Brillsway, Capon Springs, W.Va., died Friday March 23, 2001, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Warrenton, the son of Harvey N. and Martha Ann Moore Bailey.

He was self-employed as a master auto mechanic. He was a member of Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #21 of Winchester.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Army National Guard.

He married Doris Edith Darrow Bailey July 8, 1989, in Manassas.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Harvey Bailey of Midland, Robert Bailey and Kevin Bailey, both of Amosville; two daughters, Sharon Lawson of Amissville and Terri Kerns of Bealton; two sisters, Margaret Mitchell of Midland and Blanch Bruce of Fredericksburg; three step-children Patrick Darrow of Manassas, Shawn Darrow of Front Royal, and Timothy Darrow of Rixeyville; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

A son, Carl Bailey, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

A funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Jack K. Wampler officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Culpeper National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Bailey, Timothy Darrow, Patrick Darrow, Shawn Darrow, Shane Darrow, Harry Light, and David Sandowski.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church Building Fund, 5852 Howesville Road, Front Royal 22630.

Marshall Montgomery
Marshall Grant Montgomery, 71, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Thursday March 22, 2001, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Mr. Montgomery was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Washington, Pa., the son of Charles Franklin and Ethel McCullough Montgomery.

He was a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Round Hill Methodist Church. He was a sales manager for Sandoz Pharmaceutical Co. and was a real estate salesman and broker. He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a lifetime member of the Sigmu-Nu, a former member of the Clarke County Kiwanis Club, and an active member of the Republican Committee in Clarke County.

He is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Fordney of Winchester, Allison Watts, of Fork Union, Kaitlin Weatherly of Pasadena, Calif., and Alexandra Montgomery of Charles Town; a brother, William Montgomery of Washington; six grandchildren, and his first wife, Sylvia W. Humbert.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Charles Town Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Everhart officiating. Burial will be in the Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood.

Russell L. Lineberg Sr.
Russell Lee “Chief” Lineberg Sr., 75, of 104 Christopher Drive, Winchester died Saturday March 24, 2001, at his home.

He was born July 10, 1925, in Frederick County, the son of Strother and Gertie Stella Loy Lineberg.

He retired in 1984 after being a self-employed building contractor associated with D&M Builders of Winchester for 14 years. He had worked for The Washington Post for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Winchester, and attended the Mountain View Church of the Brethren of Mathias, W.Va.

He married Mildred Ann Adams Oct. 29, 1981, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Surviving with his wife are five sons, Gary Lineburg of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Russell Lineberg Jr. and Bruce Lineberg, both of Frederick County, Jeffrey Lineberg Sr. and Samuel Lineberg, both of Winchester; a daughter, Patricia Lineberg-Fox of Winchester; four sisters, Ruth Lineberg Allamong of Frederick County, Catherine Enos of Fredericksburg, Garnetta Johnson and Gretna Wolford, both of Winchester; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Delores Jean Anders; a son, Michael Eugene Lineberg; and a grandson, Shawn Anders are deceased.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville with the Rev. Olin Bailey and the Rev. Landis Dove officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Park Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Leake Sr., Junior Wagner, Scott Lineburg, Dwain Combs, Stephen Allamong, Roger McGaffick, and Dennis Molden.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
