Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Mallory
Mamie Dunn Mallory, age 90, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at her home in Bland.
Mrs. Mallory was born in Bland, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Minnie McColgan Dunn. She was a member of Bland Leyburn Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Dunn Clark and two brothers, William David Dunn and Randolph Dunn.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Mallory of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Salley Mallory and the Rev. Buddy Miller of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. Jr. and Leona T. Mallory of Bland; one sister, Eleanor Dunn Matthews of St. Paul; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church with the Rev. Murray Ziegenfuss, June Miller and the Rev. Buddy Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Bland Cemetery. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Bland County Rescue Squad or the Bland County Fire Department.

Widner
Nora Catherine Widner, age 71, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of Monroe Campbell Widner and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Mae Widener, Glenna F. Hoback, both of Chilhowie, and Ann Kelly of Louisiana; three sons, Mickey Allen Widner, Chilhowie, David Peake, and Bill Widner, both of Bristol, Tenn.; two daughters-in-law, Kim Neitch Widner, Chilhowie, and Mary Peake, Bristol, Tenn.; one son-in-law, Richard Hoback, Chilhowie; one sister, Gay Richardson, Gray, Tenn.; one brother, Bruce Reedy, Seven Mile Ford; 10 stepchildren; 11 grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; special friends, Joe DeBord, Larry Thomas, Renee Pennington and Leona Rowland Sturgill; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Haga officiating. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. in the Rush Creek Cemetery.

Adams
Bonnie Osborne Adams, age 81, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
She was the widow of William Page Adams Sr.
Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Steele of Lenoir, N.C., Thelma Owens and Shirley Barbrow, both of Chilhowie; two sons, William P. Adams Jr., Chilhowie, and William Johnny Adams of Bristol, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Zachary B. Thomas officiating. Private burial was held in Attoway Cemetery.

Campbell
Frances Chappell Campbell, age 80, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Campbell was born on Nov. 8, 1919 in Abingdon, the daughter of the late Annie Canal and Paul Chappell. She was the wife of the late Randolph Noah Campbell Sr. of Chilhowie.
She was a faithful member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church in Abingdon for over 50 years. She taught school in both Smyth and Washington counties for 41 years as an elementary and middle school teacher. She was a graduate of Virginia State University in Petersburg. Her family, friends, co-workers and former students admired her for her caring, gracious ways. She was also respected as a woman of strong Christian character, integrity and great determination.
Surviving are her two devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Randolph Campbell Jr. and wife Esther of Wytheville, and James Edward "Eddy" Campbell and his wife Linda of Cheltenham, Md.; six grandchildren, Esther Bird, Bridgot Campbell, Randolph N. Campbell III, Charles Campbell, Eric Campbell and Brian Campbell; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Campbell, Ricky Bird, Felicia Campbell, Deonorine Campbell and Courtney Campbell; one sister, Sarah Brown of Abingdon; three brothers, Sam Chappell of Washington D.C., Paul Chappell of Alabama, and Daniel Chappell of Abingdon; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Charles Wesley Methodist Church in Abingdon. The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 23, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie.

Hurst
James Swanson Hurst, age 70, of Wytheville, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 in the Pulaski Community Hospital.
Mr. Hurst was a retired farmer and was the son of the late Jesse Crockett and Margaree Lindsey Hurst. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Allen Hurst, William E. Hurst and Jesse Crockett Hurst; and one sister, Velma H. Crabtree.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hurst of Wytheville; three daughters and sons-in-law and their children, Karen and Steve Wohlford, Stephanie and Kellen of Draper, Rita and Bud Owens and Susan of Groseclose, and Lynda and Richard Sturgill, Meghan and Sarah of Marion; three sisters, Tharon H. Guynn of Woodbine, Md., Jennie H. Umberger and Helen H. Andrews, both of Wytheville; two brothers, Eugene Hurst and W.C. Montgomery, both of Wytheville; several nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church conducted by the Pastor Steve Ridenhour, Pastor Joe Shumate and Pastor Ed Schaack. Interment will follow in the Mt. Mitchell Cemetery with the American Legion Post #9 conducting military rites. The family will receive friends tonight, Oct. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grubb Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Mitchell Cemetery Fund, c/o Doris Umberger, 6121 Stony Fork Rd., Wytheville, VA 24382 or to the Hungry Mother Lutheran Church Camp, c/o Ed Schaack, 214 E. Buck Ave., Rural Retreat, VA 24368.

Lewis
Viola Harrison Lewis, age 80, formerly of Claypool Hill, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Tazewell County, the daughter of the late Gaines and Nora Dye Harrison, both Tazewell County natives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Alma Ruth Smith; one grandson, Keith Lewis; five sisters, Delphia Lawson, Capitol Lewis, Betty Cochran, Peggy Erwin and Goldie Sizemore.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leonard Lewis; four sons, Billy Ray Lewis and wife Edith, Delbert Lewis and wife Ellen, all of Lakeland, Fla., Leonard Reece Lewis, Wytheville, and Ronnie Keith Lewis, Marion; two daughters, Mrs. Jackie (Rita) Mabe, Raven, and Mrs. Dennis (Dreema) Call, Atkins; two sisters, Maxine Grice, Huntsville, Ala., and Venie Hayton, Tazewell; one brother, Jimmy Harrison of Lugoff, S.C.; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Rev. Harry Howe and the Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill.

Schafer
Beckey Minton Schafer, age 22, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000 at her home in Charlotte, N.C.
Mrs. Schafer was a native of Saltville.
Survivors include her husband, Timothy Schafer, North Carolina; one son, Alan Payton Schafer, North Carolina; her mother, Elizabeth Minton; her father, David Minton; one sister, Lori Reeves; one brother, J.D. Minton; one nephew, Jacob Reeves.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Mairtha Temple in Gastonia, N.C., with burial in Asheville, N.C.

Harrison
Lawrence 'Larry' Keith Harrison, age 43, of Marion, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000.
Mr. Harrison was a native of Washington D.C., had lived most of his life in Rockville, Md., and had resided in Abingdon and Marion since 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Mary "Pixie' Harrison, Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, Lawrence Keith Harrison Jr., Hedgesville, W.Va.; one daughter, Sabrina Lee Harrison, Gaithersburg, Md.; his parents, Daniel and Helen Harrison, Bristol, Tenn.; two brothers, Daniel Stanley Harrison, Abingdon, and Woodrow William Harrison, Kensington, Md.; four sisters, Dottie Hurley, Abingdon, Janet Fitzwater Harrison, Rockville, Md., Terry Davis, Namejoy, Md., and Helen Korsak, Wynanskill, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted today, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m. in the Mountain View Methodist Cemetery with Mr. Richard Gaminde officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 today in the funeral home.

Hedrick
Lelia Frances Hedrick, age 90, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 in the Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville.
Ms. Hedrick was born in Smyth County, the daughter of the late William Eli and Sara Inas Scott Hedrick. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Porter Hedrick.
She is survived by close friends, Greg, Meghan, and Tyler Hash, all of Rural Retreat; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. today prior to the service.

Hutton
Kenneth Eugene Hutton, age 74, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at his home in Wytheville.
Mr. Hutton was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church and was a building contractor in Smyth and Wythe counties for many years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Frances Farrington Hutton of Wytheville; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Kornetha M. and G. Richard Wilmoth of Street, Md., T. Ann and William Cox of Berlin, Md., Sandra C. Hutton of Wytheville, Cathy S. Hall of Charlottesville, and M. Patricia and Wilbern Butch Summers of Andover, Ohio; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald E. and Genevieve Young Hutton of Buckhannon, W.Va., Donald R. and Deborah Kirk Hutton, and G. Daniel Hutton, all of Rural Retreat; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. at Cedar Bluff Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Beck officiating. Graveside services will be held today, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Lowman Valley Cemetery.

Worley
Robert Glen Worley, age 53, of Saltville, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Mr. Worley was a son of the late Izar Worley and Mary Leona Taylor Worley. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Clinton Worley.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Darlene Worley; one son, Robert Preston Worley, Abingdon; two daughters, Glenda Holmes and Carrie Bordwine, both of Saltville; three brothers, Lenard Worley of Raleigh, N.C., C.A. Worley, Saltville, and Fred Worley, Lebanon; two sisters, Brenda Spiva and Phyllis Woodby, both of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Latkin Worley, Trevor Tadlock, Brooke Bordwine and Maranda Saltz.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Duard Vernon Cook officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Buchanan
Brown B. Buchanan, age 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie S. Buchanan.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Everette and Delores Buchanan of Marion; one sister, Arline Echols of Marion; one brother, C.A. Buchanan of Bristol, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Curtis Buchanan, Doris Buchanan and Carol Buchanan, all of Roanoke; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667.
