Farmer
Marjorie Seabolt Farmer died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at her home in Marion.
She is survived by her husband, John Lee Farmer of Marion; one daughter, Stella V. Farmer of Marion; two sisters, Mabel Seabolt of Marion, and Ethel Berger of New Orleans, La.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Duane Garnichaud officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Firestone
Blanche Delp Firestone, age 83, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 at her home in Marion.
Mrs. Firestone was the daughter of the late Cora D. Meadows and Severt Delp and was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey James Firestone; one daughter, Linda L. Firestone; and two granddaughters, Karen Firestone and Linda G. Firestone.
She was a member of the Pugh Mountain Freewill Baptist Church, an avid reader, and a dedicated mother who loved and appreciated all her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five sons: Harvey J. Firestone Jr., Roanoke, William S. Firestone, Robert H. Firestone, Herbert L. Firestone, and Steve Firestone, all of Marion; five daughters: Ruth Simmerman, Windsor, Brenda Umbarger, Atkins, Loretta Sutherland, Bonnie Meadows and Kay Robinson, all of Marion; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Fields Meadows, Dalton, Ga., Charles Delp, Thomas Delp, and Robert Delp, all of Salem; three sisters, Goldie Lilly of Besoco, W.Va., Margaret Anne Kirby of Roanoke, and Jenny Loving of Goodview.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. in the Pugh Mountain Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Slemp and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Attoway Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel.

Hackler
Ernest Lee Hackler, age 80, of Rural Retreat, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Hackler was born in Grayson County, the son of the late Sylvester and Barbara Catron Hackler. He was a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, the Club 55 Bowling League, the American Legion Post #229, and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorina Sage Hackler; one sister, Virginia McMillan; and a brother, Harold Hackler.
Surviving are one daughter, Ernestine 'Tina' Sult, Rural Retreat; two sons and daughter-in-law, Roger and Florence Hackler, Danville, and Ernest H. 'Buckeye' Hackler, Hillsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Don Hall, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, William Ray and Mattie Jean Hackler, Sharpes, Fla.; six grandchildren, Lori Hackler, Sabrina King, Tony Sult, Josh Hackler, Mark Hackler, and Mike Hackler; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery with graveside military rites being conducted by Marion VFW Post #4667. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial contributions to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church.

Howerton
Blanche Hamm Howerton, age 75, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Howerton was a member of Nick's Creek Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Willie G. Hamm and Kelly Howerton.
She is survived by her mother, Carrie Wassum of Atkins; one daughter, Wilma Hamm Russell of Marion; five sons, Buford Wayne Hamm, Newton, N.C., William Franklin Hamm, Hickory, N.C., Robert Dale Hamm, Rural Retreat, James Ambrose Hamm, Marion, and Calvin Corbett Hamm, Hudson, N.C.; three sisters, Elsie Bailey, Baltimore, Md., Doris Brown, Bonifay, Fla., and Phyllis Gray, Churchville, Md.; one brother, Dainer Lee Wassum Sr., Aberdeen, Md.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several stepchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with burial in Wassum Cemetery in Atkins. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Kegley
Ruth Winters Kegley, age 92, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 in St. Mary's Hospice in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mrs. Kegley was a member of the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church in Atkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Margaret Winters; her husband, Jefferson P. Kegley; one daughter, Carol; one granddaughter, Ruth Ann Blevins; four brothers, Bill, Ted, Ross and Luther; and one sister, Dell Comer.
She is survived by two sons, Willis B. Kegley and wife Mary of Mobile, Ala.; Roger L. Kegley and wife Betty of Mechanicsville; three daughters, Vivian Beeler of Knoxville, Tenn., Mildred Parker and husband Dale of Radford, and Doris Casteel and husband Bill of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, John Winters and wife Louise of Atkins; three sisters-in-law, Trixie Winters, Georgia Kegley, both of Marion, and Dorothy Winters of Gate City; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Harry Howe and the Rev. Barry Marshall officiating. Graveside services will be held today, Sept. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Wassum Cemetery.

Nipper
Sherry C. Nipper, age 52, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Nipper was a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church and taught school for over 28 years in the Smyth County School System.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Nipper of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jeffery Peck of Wichita, Kansas; her parents, Harry ìBudî Jr. and Bonnie Crusenberry of Saltville; two grandchildren, Sheldon Peck and Allison Peck, both of Wichita, Kansas.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor James H. Bangle and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1799, Marion, VA 24354.

Rhea
Frank James Rhea, age 45, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 in Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville.
Mr. Rhea was a son of Nancy Rhea of Glade Spring and the late Paul Campbell Rhea.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Dreama Doane Rhea; two daughters, Stacy Jones and Ashley Rhea, both of Clinchburg; one son, Frank James Rhea Jr., of Glade Spring; two stepsons, Travis Chapman of Chilhowie and Justin Chapman of Saltville; two brothers, Jerry Rhea and Paul Rhea, both of Glade Spring; one sister, Debbie Bennett of Glade Spring; his mother- and father-in-law, Bill and Betty Doane of Saltville; and a very special friend, Ken Doane.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Briggs and the Rev. Ralph Surber officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery with military rites by Saltville VFW Post 7328.

Thomas
William Delbert Thomas, age 52, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at his home in Pulaski.
Mr. Thomas was born in Pulaski on Oct. 9, 1947 and was the son of the late William L. Thomas and Thelma Woods Thomas. He was a former employee of RAAP in Radford.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Davis of Pulaski and Carolyn Manuel of Vinton; three sons, J.D. Davis, Ricky Davis, and Curtis Manuel, all of Pulaski; three brothers, Lawrence Thomas of Pulaski, Paul Ross of Marion, and Glenn Thomas of Buchanan; three sisters, Leota Clyburn of Marion, Nancy Thomas and Kathy Richards, both of Pulaski; eight grandchildren and one special grandson, Fred Davis Jr.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Burial followed in Peak Creek Mission of Prayer Church Cemetery in Pulaski County.

Bise
Henry P. (Hank) Bise, age 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Bise was born in Rich Valley and was retired from the Radford Arsenal with over 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie Bise.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Bise; one daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Mickey Moser, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Ann Bise, Marion; two sisters, Julie Anders and Helen Anders, both of Groseclose; one brother, James Bus Bise, Rockville, Md.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. in Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Shuler officiating. Interment will follow in the Attoway Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Buford
Anna McCormick (Polly) Buford, age 81, of Dublin, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.
Mrs. Buford was born in Chilhowie on April 1, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.F. McCormick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.G. (Judy) Buford; two brothers, Charles and John McCormick; a sister, Alice Daniels; and a granddaughter, Angela Marie Bonomo.
She was a retired employee of Kenrose and Russell Apparel and was a member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Julia Bonomo Rakar, Joliet, Ill.; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles G. (Butch) and Alice Buford, Dublin; three granddaughters and spouses: Nicole and Alan Shields, Missoula, Mont., Jennifer Rakar, San Francisco, Calif., and Lee Anna and Ed Shaheen, Radford; one brother, Paul McCormick, Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Eva Horne and Katherine Thomas, both of Chilhowie, and Bea Griffitt, Lakeside, Calif.; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her special family, Joyce Adkins and Collin Henley, Radford.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shirley Larson officiating. Burial followed in the New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pulaski County. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions be made to the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, 6900 Pulaski Avenue, Radford, VA 24241.

Clyde C. Copenhaver, age 78, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000 in the Lifecare of Gwinnett in the Atlanta, Ga., area.
Mr. Copenhaver was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Pearl P. and Bonnie Dutton Copenhaver. He was a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, and the American Legion Post 229 in Rural Retreat.
Mr. Copenhaver was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Cline Copenhaver.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Yvonne Copenhaver of Braselton, Ga.; two grandchildren and spouses, Robert W. and Vickie Copenhaver, and Julie and Robert Coile; three great-grandchildren, Caitlin Coile, Abigail Copenhaver, and Patrick Coile; two sisters, Nancy C. Garman, Fayetteville, N.C., and Margaret C. Medley of Rural Retreat; three brothers, Kent Copenhaver, Rural Retreat, Hugh Copenhaver, Atkins, and Randolph Copenhaver, Wytheville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Richard Allen Dunn, age 60, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 at his home in Chilhowie.
Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his parents, Estel W. and Mary Harris Dunn.
He is survived by three daughters, Janice Sue Testerment and Mary Joyce Hall, both of Lancaster, S.C., and Sally Bonita Elmore, Saltville; two sons, Tim Allen Dunn and Jessie Andrew Dunn, both of Chilhowie; one sister, Betty 'Tootsie' Harris, Saltville; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepbrothers, Ralph Hicks and Perry Lee Hicks.
