Stover
Pearl Cregger Stover, age 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Stover was preceded in death by her husband, William Vernon Stover, and a sister Virginia Cregger Payne.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Stover Bales of Marion; two sisters, Pauline Owens and Tressa McGhee, both of Marion; two brothers, Rudolph Cregger of Marion, and Emmett Cregger of Burlington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Phillip T. Bales, Robert D. Bales, both of Marion, Donna Bales Lawrence and husband, C.G. Lawrence III of Fayetteville, Ga., Robin Bales Elkins and husband Michael A. Elkins Sr., of Tazewell, Michelle K. Bales of Charlottesville, and Christopher C. Bales, Rural Retreat; six great-grandchildren, Donald L. Bales II, Charles G. Lawrence IV, Adam Lawrence, Chelsea Lawrence, Michael Elkins Jr., and Nickolas Elkins.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at Marion Baptist Church with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and Mr. Bryant Moxley officiating. Burial followed in Wassum Cemetery in Atkins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Baptist Church Building Fund, 1258 North Main St., Marion, VA 24354 or the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

York
Katherine (Pat) Parks York, age 82, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001 at her home in Bristol.
Mrs. York was the daughter of the late Victor Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Wilkinson Parks of Chilhowie. She moved to Bristol in 1961, and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church where she also worked. She was retired from Whitten Electric Co.
She is survived by two daughters, Sidny Hieronymus of Atlanta, Ga., and Susanna York of Orange; three sons, Victor Carroll York of Houston, Texas, Lawrence York of Lexington, Ky., and Patrick York of Lenoir City, Tenn.; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas A. Ianucei and the Rev. Mr. Harry Hall officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to St. Anne’s Catholic School.

Hodges
William D. Hodges, age 67, a long time resident of Aurora, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Provena Fox Knoll.
Mr. Hodges was born in Virginia on Feb. 13, 1933. He graduated with an engineering degree from Virginia Tech. He served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a Captain for American Airlines for 25 years.
Survivors include his former wife and longtime friend, Alma Ruth Basilone of Sylacauga, Ala.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Daleiden Lake Street Mortuary in Aurora with the Rev. Steven Good officiating.
Graveside services will be held today, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m. in Round Hill Cemetery in Marion.
Barnett’s Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Hubble
Marie Pruner Hubble, age 74, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 in Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Hubble was retired from Southwestern State Hospital after 20 years of nursing service.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Ralph T. Hubble of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Jonnie Bell and Ray Lowery of Marion; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Hubble of Boonesmill; four stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Patricia and Tony Wykle of Christiansburg, Darlene and Donnie Richardson of Stanton, Ky., Linda and J.C. Woolridge of Skygusty, W.Va., and Joyce and Lynn Cody of Robbinsville, N.C.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Maude and Tom Moore of Marion, and Mary Kate Greer of Atkins; two sisters-in-law, Velma Cook of Marion, and Myrtle Cook of Radford; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 6, at 11 .am. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Little officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Meek
Lillian Rachel Hutton Meek, age 70, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was the widow of Roy Allen Meek Jr.
Mrs. Meek was the daughter of the late James Edward and Helen Holloway Hutton. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and taught in both the Washington County and Pulaski County public schools. She was a member of the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Shawn Meek, Jim and Barbara Meek, all of Draper, Joe and Lisa Meek, Christiansburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Rob Morgan, Wytheville, and Helen and Rodney Neely, Falls Church; two brothers and sister-in-law, Ed Hutton, James R. "Bill" and Cathy Hutton, both of Glade Spring; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Maggie and William Naylor, Glade Spring, Bonnie and Scott Duncan, Georgia and Wayne Moore, all of Meadowview; seven grandchildren: Adam, Lauren, Conrad, Leigh Ann, Sarah and Allyson Meek, and Owen Morgan.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. in Glade Spring Presbyterian Church at Old Glade with the Rev. Timothy E. bird officiating. A second service will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Draper Valley Presbyterian Church with Dr. Cortez R. Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Draper Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church, Draper Valley Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.

Arnold
Virgie L. "Lady" Arnold, age 93, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Saltville, the daughter of the late Edward and Ollie Booth. She was a member of the Main Street Christian Church and a charter member of the Saltville Home Demonstration Club. She was a beloved wife, mother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Minister Elbert Roy Arnold; two sons, Elbert R. "Buck" Arnold and Richard A. "Jack" Arnold; six brothers, Hack Booth, Eugene Booth, Malcolm Booth, L.B. Booth, Frank Booth and Sylvester Booth.
Surviving are five sons and six daughters-in-law, H.V. "Chub" and Betty Arnold, Danny and Jody Arnold, and Shirley T. Arnold, all of Saltville, B.G. "Bay" and Mary Ellen Arnold of Hixson, Tenn., H.E. "Hal" and Jean Arnold of Wilmington, N.C., and D.B. "Dave" and Teddie Arnold of Greensburg, Penn.; two sisters, Mary Sanders of Norfolk, and Helen French of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; many other special friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville with the Rev. Cal Hultgren officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Main Street Christian Church or the Saltville Rescue Squad.

Barry
Alvin Y. Barry, age 78, of Shady Valley, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
Mr. Barry was a native of Shady Valley and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for the TVA for several years before becoming a minister. He ministered in several Church of Christ churches in the area. He was a member of the Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Barry; one daughter, Linda Miller of West Jefferson, N.C.; one son, Tony Barry of Shady Valley, Tenn.; one sister, Georgia Bentley of Shady Valley, Tenn.; one brother, R.C. Barry of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Milton Mathers, Mr. Will Johnson and Mr. Mark Miller, ministers, officiating. Burial followed in Blevins Cemetery in Shady Valley, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to the family.

Carter
Bertha L. Crabtree Carter, age 77, of Rich Valley, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 in Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are her husband, Leon Carter; one son, Hobert L. "Junebug" Carter of Saltville; four daughters and sons-in-law, Ethena and Roger Hawkins, Judy and Kyle Holmes, all of Rich Valley, Barbara Jo and David Fazelnia of Charlotte, N.C., and Jane and Tommy Hess of Saltville; one brother, Fred Crabtree of Rich Valley; one sister, Lessie McGoldrick of Albuquerque, N.M.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and the Rev. Luther Watson officiating. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery.

Colley
Joyce D. Colley, age 72, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Colley was born in Chesterfield County, S.C., and was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Barker and Myrtle Kelly; and three brothers, Frank, John and Bill Cranford.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Willis R. "Bill" Colley; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sherian and Eddie Medley, and Judy Colley, all of Marion; three grandchildren, Sarah Beth Medley, Jill Rene Medley, and James Richard "Jamie" Hamm; two sisters, Ruth Turner, Bennettesville, S.C., and Edith Quick, Cheraw, S.C.; several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations can be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, Grace St., Marion, VA 24354.
