Cox
James Grover Cox, age 69, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem.
Mr. Cox was born Dec. 6, 1931 to the late Posy and Bertha Cox. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #18.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a granddaughter Melanie Billings, two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Wayne Snyder of Mountain City, Tenn., and Deborah and Travis Poston of Marion; four grandchildren, Donald Snyder, Stacie Jarvis, Sarah Jarvis and Tommy Jarvis; two great-grandchildren, Laken Moore and Stephanie Hamm; three sisters, Annie Mae Taylor of Spanaway, Wash., Sue Matherly of Bassett, and Shirley Goldberg of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two brothers, Roy Lee Cox of Joppa, Md., and John W. Cox of Fort Pierce, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Private burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667, P.O. Box 767, Marion, VA 24354. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Cuddy
Beverly Mann Cuddy, age 80, of Saltville, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Cuddy was the widow of the late Claude R. Cuddy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James C. Mann and Anne Elizabeth Scott Mann. She was the owner of the Saltville Men’s Shop.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Anne and Bobby Allison of Saltville; three brothers, Paul Mann of Williamsburg, Maurice Mann of Fresno, Calif., and Don Mann of Fort Pierce, Fla.; brother-in-law, Van Cuddy of Abingdon; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Cuddy of Bristol, and Vickie Cuddy of Kingsport, Tenn.; two special friends, Ruby Crabtree and Lola Thompson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Mumpower officiating. Graveside services were conducted Monday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad.

Ruby Fowler Dean died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 at her home in Marion.
She was a former employee of Burlington Industries and Buster Brown. Her family was blessed by her presence.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Dean of Marion; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry A. and Debbie Dean of Marion, and Garry E. Dean of Wytheville; five grandchildren, Lisa Crockett and husband Timothy, Dana Crewey and husband Josh, Travis Dean, Joshua A. Dean and Cheyenne Dean; three great-grandchildren, Brian Crockett, Tyler Crockett and Joshua Dean-Crewey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn S. and Lucille Fowler of Bethlehem, Penn., and Charles A. and Betty Fowler of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nonia F. and Shirley Gamble of Wytheville, and Helen F. Lilly of Marion; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. William Dean and the Rev. Timothy Crockett officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Funeral Chapel.

Jenkins
Bessie Friar Jenkins, age 85, of Nebo, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 in Britthaven Nursing Home in Henderson, N.C.
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Toccoa, Ga., to the late John and Cecelia Friar. She was a longtime Peninsula resident of the Hilton Village community. She was a member of the Hilton Baptist Church for over 50 years and was an Avon representative for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jenkins.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Joel (Jimmy) and Belle Jenkins, Nebo; two grandchildren, Jack Jenkins, Henderson, N.C., and Ginger Griffin, Hillsboro, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins, Cory Jenkins, and Melissa Griffin; two great-great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Jenkins and Justin Jenkins; four sisters, Mary Anna Branton, Iron Station, N.C., Hazel Yearwood, Hampton, Jessie Franklin, Wake Forrest, N.C., and Elizabeth Cline, Martinsville; one brother, Johnny Friar, Durham, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack C. Jenkins and the Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery in Nebo. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Barker
Goldie Grubb Barker, age 86, of Troutdale, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Barker was born Aug. 29, 1914 in Grant, the daughter of the late William W. and Birdie Ross Grubb.
She was the widow of Kline Barker.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Margie Barker of Newark, Del.; one sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Walter Eugene Cline of Elkton, Md.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William Herbert and Naomi Grubb of Pulaski, and Jay C. and Laura Grubb of Troutdale; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with Elder Raymond Shatley and Elder Dean Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Troutdale Cemetery in Troutdale. Foglesong
Sidney Stewart Foglesong, age 80, of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Foglesong was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Adam and Hollis Heldreth Foglesong. He was a former employee of General Shale Inc., with 28 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Heldreth Foglesong.
He is survived by two sons, James Foglesong and Glen Foglesong, both of the home; one brother, Frank Foglesong, Cleveland, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. Interment will follow in the Kimberline Lutheran Church Cemetery in Rural Retreat. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services.

Sadie Eller Hockett, age 52, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 at her home in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Hockett was born in Smyth County to the late Woodrow and Mae Call. She was a member of the Watson Gap Church of God and had worked at Food City.
Surviving are her husband, Bill Hockett; one daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Darryl Davidson, Chilhowie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Elizabeth Eller, and Bobby and Ruthie Eller, all of Chilhowie; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Tommie Widener, Marion, and Betty and Jerry Ashley, Montgomery, Ala.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Walter and Gladys Call, Harold Call, Bud and Carol Call, Ray "Woody" and Grace Call, all of Marion; five grandchildren, Barbara Thomas, Lilly Greer, Gladys Smith, Mary Testerman, and Mary Eller; several nieces and nephews.

James Edward "Eddie" Keith, age 47, of Saltville, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Keith was an employee of the Town of Saltville and was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary Keith.
Surviving are his wife, Tressa Diane Keith; one daughter and son-in-law, Tressa Lynn and Daren Strouth, Saltville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny Ray and Virginia Keith, Saltville, and Robert Douglas and Sandy Keith, Chilhowie; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Harris; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Richard and Patty Harris, and Joe and Darlene Nutter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Olinger
Fannie L. Anderson Olinger, age 65, of Saltville, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Bristol Wellmont Hospice House.
Mrs. Olinger was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Saltville. She was preceded in death by her son Charles H. Olinger Jr.; her parents, Ray and Mary Anderson; one brother, Franklin Anderson; and one sister, Louella Anderson.
Surviving are her husband, Charles H. Olinger; four brothers, Henry Anderson and George Anderson, both of Saltville, Charles Anderson of Abingdon, and Roy Anderson of Wilmington, N.C.; five sisters, Helen Ford of Akron, Ohio, Dorothy Hall of Bristol, Delphine Coffer of Clover, Rose Anderson of Alexandria, and Pauline Perkins of Woodbridge; one granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Olinger of Saltville; one grandson, Greg Stitt of Saltville; several special friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Olinger and the Rev. Mike Mangrum officiating. Burial followed in the Ridgedale Cemetery.

Meadows
Mae H. Meadows, age 83, of Conowingo, MD, died Jan. 20, 2001 at her residence.
She was born June 10, 1917 in Ceres, VA, the daughter of the late Otto and Nanny Bell Hayton.
Mrs. Meadows was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a charter member of Porter’s Grove Baptist Church where she was also a member of the choir and other various church groups. She was also an auxiliary member of the Gideons International, Cecil County Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Scott Wood, who died in 1963.
Mrs. Meadows is survived by her husband, Henry Meadows of Conowingo, MD; one daughter, Dollie Hutchison of Severn, MD; four step-daughters, Ruth Ann Kirk of New Orleans, LA, Linda S. Janney of Rising Sun, MD, Mary Meadows of Chesapeake City, MD, and Deborah Meadows McConnell of Elkton, MD; one stepson, Mark T. Meadows of Conowingo, MD; one brother, Richard Hayton of Sugar Grove; 27 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 24, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, Connelly Rd., Conowingo, MD, where friends may call after 10 a.m. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 26, 10 to 11 a.m. at Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. Burial will be in Crees’s Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

Johnathan Guy Parks Jr., M/Sgt. U.S. Air Force, Retired, age 72, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Matson Presbyterian Chapel and was retired from the Air Force with 22 years of service.
Mr. Parks is survived by his wife, Lieselotte "Lilo" Parks of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Gail Parks, Marion; one sister, Virginia Ball of Marion; three grandchildren, Todd Parks and wife Jenny of Anchorage, Alaska, Joshua Parks and Chad Parks, both of Marion; one great-grandson, Dylan Parks of Anchorage, Alaska; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. William T. Wing III and the Rev. Wayne Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
