Winters
Annis E. Winters, 84, of Damascus died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a native of Johnson County, Tenn., and was the oldest daughter of the late Nat and Mollie Jenkins. She had lived in Damascus most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Winters; two sons, Hobert Winters and Albert "Tooty" Winters; and seven brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Frank Winters of Chilhowie and Randy Winters of Laurel Bloomery, Tenn.; one daughter, Evon Wilson of Damascus; one sister, Louise Duvall of Mountain City, Tenn.; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Friday, April 1, 2005, in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warren Wilson and the Rev. Frank Woods officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Park. The family received friends Friday prior to the funeral service.

Blankenbeckler
Charles W. Blankenbeckler, 87, of Salem, died Thursday, March 24, 2005.
He had been a Salem resident since 1947 and was a retired master electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local # 637. He was also a member of College Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge in Marion for over 50 years.
His wife, Clara K. Blankenbeckler and a son, Charles David Blankenbeckler preceded him in death, in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy B. Barron of Southington, Conn. and Barbara Jean and Steve Miller of Hardy; grandchildren, Emily Jagos and husband, Allan of Southington, Conn., Katherine Barron of Freeport, N.Y., Sherry Blankenship and husband, Jim of Salem, Clara King and husband, Todd of Roanoke, Melanie Kiger of Roanoke and Kelly Miller of Silver Springs, Md.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, March 28, 2005, in the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery in Marion with Masonic rites.

Brown
Peggy Chambers Brown, 88, formerly of Damascus, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond.
She was a native of Bristol, Tenn. and had lived in Damascus for most of her adult life before moving to Richmond to live with her daughter.
She was the daughter of the late John B. Chambers and Huldah Henniger Chambers. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Brown and two sisters, Sue C. Rogers and Virginia C. Lindsey.
She was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and attended Trinity United Methodist Church after moving to Richmond.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Brown and Norman Bush of Richmond; one grandson, Jason Bush and wife, Rebecca of Winston Salem, N.C.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Michelle Bush of Richmond; three nephews, Thomas King Rogers, Jr. and wife, Peggy of Bristol, Tenn., Dr. J. Williams Rogers and wife, June of Winston Salem, N.C. and Jerry Lee Lindsey and wife, Brenda of Richmond; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2005, in the Damascus United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jane Ayers officiated the ceremony. The committal service and interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park.

Comiso
Armando C. Comiso, 71, of Rural Retreat and the Philippines died Friday, March 25, 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Benjamina F. Comiso of the Philippines; two daughters and sons-in-law, Consuelo and Lewis Walk of Rural Retreat, and Estelita and Frank Encio of the Philippines; two brothers, Mario Comiso and Roberto Comiso, both of the Philippines; two sisters, Angelina Layacan and Mennie Gandia, both of the Philippines; and five grandchildren, Kristoffer Walk, Henry A. Walk, William Walk, Kristine Encio and Cecil Encio.
A memorial service was held Tuesday evening, March 29, 2005, at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Retreat with Father Paul Maier officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to his daughter, Consuelo Walk to help defer the cost of sending the remains to his wife in the Philippines.

Emma Lee Cregger, formerly of Marion, died Monday, March 28, 2005.
She was a life long member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. S. "Pee Wee" Cregger; a son, Stuart Lee Cregger; father and mother, T. J. and Sue Neff; a sister and husband, Elva N. and "Pete" Howell; brothers and wives, James H. and Vivian Neff, Walter J. and Margaret Neff, Arthur F. and Sarah Neff.
Survivors include her nieces, Shirley N. Reed of Roanoke, Sue N. Gray and husband, Ron Gray of Vinton; a nephew, Jack D. Neff and wife, Barbara of Gaffney, S.C.; and special friends, Bill Peters of Roanoke and Jake and Madeline Scott of Marion.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion.

Jesse Bowles Glenn, 65, of Ceres died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Durham, N.C., a son of the late Jesse J. and Clarine Ladd Glenn.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Robinson Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen C. Glenn of the home; two sons, Michael Glenn and Todd Glenn, both of North Carolina; two daughters, Tammy Glenn and Tonya Glenn, both of North Carolina; two stepchildren and spouses, Mary and Bobby Stockton of North Carolina and William and Patty Swafford of Virginia; four step-grandchildren, Karrie, Shaun, Levi and Chelsea; two step-great-grandchildren, Amberly and Thomas; numerous grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Molly Church of Kentucky.
A graveside service and interment was held Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Burke Memorial Park, Morganton, N.C., with the Rev. Jack O'Neil officiating.

Musick
Viola Ratcliffe Musick, 93, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Musick.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Powell of Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arlen and Barbara Taylor of Marion and David and Dana Musick of Sugar Grove; one sister, Marie Troxell of Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Vicky Salter and husband, Jeff of Chilhowie, Jennifer Archer and husband, Chad, Heather Campbell and husband, Chad, all of Marion, and Shannon Musick of North Carolina; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday morning, March 29, 2005, at Old Glade Cemetery in Glade Spring. The Rev. Mike Sage officiated the ceremony.

Francis Marion O'Quinn, 82, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at her home.
She attended the Beulah Land Baptist Church.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Ann Wolfe and husband, Earl of Bluff City, Tenn. and Elizabeth Evans and husband, Timothy of Bristol; one grandson, John Oliver and wife, Angee of Bristol; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; special cousin, Grace Price; and a special nephew, Larry Croomes.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Privett
Roby J. Privett, 94, of Troutdale, in the Razor Ridge community, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
He was born May 20, 1910, at Grant to the late William and Elizabeth Sexton Privett.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Rosemary Privett and Cecil and Teddie Privett, all of Troutdale; two daughters, Tressie Goins of Troutdale and Viola Cox of Independence; three sisters, Bessie Brown of Piney Creek, N.C., Ruby Noonkester of Bel Air, Md. and Hazel Catron of Maben, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Comers Creek Baptist Church in Troutdale. Interment will be in Lum Young Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Blevins and the Rev. Mike Porter officiating.

Snavely
Helen Broeske Snavely, 80, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, in Lynchburg.
She was born May 30, 1924 in Marion, the daughter of the late Frederick William Broeske and Stella Hawks Broeske.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion and Blue Ridge Community Church in Lynchburg.
Her relatives remember her as a caring mother, who worked hard to make life better for her family. Through her example, her children were encouraged to excel in their own lives, to pursue higher education and to maintain a high work ethic. Her friends recall her wonder sense of humor.
She found delight in everything she did. Her family doctor considered her to be a personal friend, rather than a patient, and looked forward to her clinic visits.
With her vision failing, she was unable to drive; however, she quickly learned the layout of Lynchburg and was able to navigate for her companion as he drove wherever she needed to go. She enjoyed meals out with Connie many evenings and loved joining Connie's friends during monthly dinners.
Survivors include her children, Connie Snavely of Lynchburg, Joseph Snavely, Jr. and wife, Deborah of Huntington, W.Va., Eva Sexton of Chilhowie and Windy May of Marion; two grandchildren, Shayne and Tracie; a niece, Linn Inboden; a nephew, Bill Broeske; her special companion, W. Randolph Keyes of Lynchburg; and her beloved cat, Missy.
A service of remembrance was held 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2005, in First United Methodist Church in Marion.
