Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Lee
Robert Leon Lee, age 66, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 in Chesapeake.
Mr. Lee was a native of Praco, Ala., and a retired tractor trailer driver. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp.
Surviving are his wife, Carol S. Lee of Chesapeake; one daughter, Beverly Ward, Marion; one son, David Lee, Chesapeake; three stepdaughters, Vanessa Faucett, Chesapeake, Teressa Standing, Portsmouth, and Melissa Scott, North Carolina; two stepsons, Michael Dodd, Chesapeake, and Ronald Dodd, Portsmouth; one sister, Mary Overstreet, Virginia Beach; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. at Sturtevant Funeral Home Chapel in Portsmouth. Burial followed in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

Lefler
James Coy Lefler, age 72, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001 at the Oaks Residential & Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville, Fla.
Mr. Lefler was born in Gary, W.Va., on Feb. 10, 1929 to the late Lee M. and Alice J. Fleeman Lefler. He was a decorated Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are one brother, John R. Lefler, Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Jane Lefler, Ocala, Fla., Marie Deel, Pineville, W.Va., and Marion Brock, Dunn, N.C.; many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 3, at Bradley-Finney Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor John H. Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Lewis
Dewey E. Lewis, age 81, of Damascus, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001 at his home in the Green Cove Community.
Mr. Lewis was born June 22, 1919 at Ashe County, N.C., to Ambrose and Minnie Roten Lewis.
Surviving are his wife, Lura Greer Lewis, of the home; two daughters and a spouse, Mattie and Kyle Blevins, Whitetop, and Gladys Lewis, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Judy Lewis, Abingdon; one sister, Maudie Richardson, Abingdon; four grandchildren, Tim Blevins, Brad Lewis, Jennifer Owens, and Greg Blevins; one great-grandson, Jakob Rasmussen.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Green Cove Baptist Church in Damascus with the Rev. Jody Blevins officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Rogers Fire & Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 47, Whitetop, VA 24292.

Snavely
Linda Sue Olinger Snavely, age 54, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a precious wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph W. Snavely Sr., Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Sonia and Tim Oakes, Marion; her mother, Sue Olinger, Marion; three grandchildren, Teisha "Acorn" Oakes, Brandie "Autumn" Oakes, B.J. "Bump-Bump" Oakes; four sisters, Ruth Farmer, Peggy Olinger, Tammy Testerman, all of Marion, and Doris Olinger, Abingdon; four brothers, Tommy Lee Olinger and Jimmy Olinger, both of Marion, Bobby Olinger, Chilhowie, and Don Olinger, Saltville; one stepdaughter, Connie Jo Snavely, Lynchburg; one stepson, Joe Snavely Jr., Huntington, W.Va.; two step-grandchildren, Shayne Snavely and Tracie Harrah; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hutton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Groseclose.

Tiller
Ralph E. Tiller, age 81, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 in Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mr. Tiller was born in Princeton, W.Va., the son of the late Elihu B. and Florence G. Tiller. He resided primarily in Rocky Gap until August when he and his wife moved to Wytheville.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Bessie M. Coburn Tiller, of the home; six children and spouses, Charles R. and Dee Tiller, Dumfries, Edward L. and Belva Tiller of Durham, N.C., Darlene Hodges of Christiansburg, Ralph H. and Sharon Tiller of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., Diana P. and David Baumgardner, Roanoke, and Carol Sue and Jeff Repass, Wytheville; brother and sister-in-law, C.B. and Nannie Rose Tiller, Rocky Gap; sister-in-law, Ila Tiller, Bluefield, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Highland Funeral Home Bland Chapel with Pastor Stephen P. Ridenhour officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery in Princeton, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, Attn: Imogene Orfield, Treasurer, P.O. Box 297, Wytheville, VA 24382 or the American Cancer Society Memorials, Jean Lester, P. O. Box 778, Wytheville, VA 24382.

Caldwell
Ellen R. Caldwell, age 91, of Saltville, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Caldwell was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was the daughter of the late George H. and Oney Jane Rhea and was of the Protestant faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert L. Caldwell, and a daughter, Peggy C. McCall.
Surviving are one daughter, Debbie Ledbetter and husband Larry, Saltville; two sisters, Laura Roberts and husband Blair of Abingdon, and Maggie Brown of Damascus; two sisters-in-law, Mary Craig Rhea of Meadowview, and Mary Virginia Caldwell, Abingdon; two grandsons, Todd Milhorne and Robbie Milhorne; one great-grandson, Shane Matthew Milhorne; a special friend and niece, Margaret Miller; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cathy Carpenter officiating. A committal service was held Friday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Rescue Squad, 7325 Fire Department Rd., Abingdon, VA 24210.

Johnson
Manuel C. "Sonny" Johnson Jr., age 64, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001 in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.
Mr. Johnson was manager of the Johnson's Ben Franklin Store in Marion prior to its closing and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service (Mount Rogers - Jefferson National Forest) for 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Mae Hamilton Johnson; one son, Charlie Jackson Carlton, Marion; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Johnson and Melissa Jane Grice, both of Marion, and Connie Gail Sexton, Wytheville; his father and mother, M.C. "Clyde" Johnson Sr., of St. Paul, and Margaret Rose Testerman Athey of Abingdon; two brothers, Randy Johnson, Warrenton, and Teddy Johnson, Cary, NC.; four sisters, Vada Arlena Adams, Clinchburg, Monecia Owens, Abingdon, Vickie Hobbs, Castlewood, and Cynthia Merricks, Hurley; six grandchildren, Ashley, Missy, Kelly, Amy, Travis and Jason; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sabrina, Brandon and Justin.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Middle Fork Cemetery.

Nash
Beryl Wayne Nash, age 54, of Saltville, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001.
A native of Russell County, Mr. Nash was a son of Helen Roman Nash and the late Ira Bascom Nash. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a retired chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy with over 20 years of service. He was employed by Lear Corp. in Lebanon.
Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae Nash; five sons, Zebulon Nash and wife Melissa, Gabriel Ray Nash, Dustin Starr Nash, all of Saltville, William Nash, Johnson City, Tenn., and Ira Clinton Nash, U.S. Navy, Washington State; his mother Helen Roman Nash; two grandchildren, Heaven Leigh Nash and William Dylan Hicks; one sister, Cindy Lee Miller, Richlands; four brothers, Lynn Rasnake, Pennsylvania, Ira Phillip Nash and Joe Nash, both of Honaker, and Archie Nash, Belfast.
Graveside military services with full military honors were conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in the Grizzle Family Cemetery in Castlewood.

Poole
Ola Marie Hamm Poole, age 86, of Rural Retreat, formerly of Flatridge, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Poole was born Sept. 8, 1915 in West Virginia to Emmitt and Ida Mae Parks Hamm.
She was the widow of Ernest Poole and was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanetta Woodward; two sons, Gene and Gelene Poole; and one grandson, Christopher Poole.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Lena and Victor Bonham, Marion, Mary Lou and Kyle McGrady, Linda and Jimmy Umberger, all of Rural Retreat; one son, Bobby Poole, Flatridge; one sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Alan Townsend, Flatridge; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel in Independence with the Rev. Ted Bonham and the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating. Interment was in Honey Grove Cemetery in Flatridge.

Williams
Peggy Joyce Bralley Williams, age 63, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Williams was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late John Samuel and Leaffie Irene Lanter Bralley. She was a member of the Rural retreat Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Lee Bralley, John William Bralley, James Grover Bralley, and Jack Farland Bralley; and one sister, Phillis Levern Bralley.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Williams; one son, Brian Shane Williams of Rincon, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew Williams and Emily Lauren Williams; two sisters, Mildred Bralley of Speedwell, and Wanda Sue Stroup of Rural Retreat; two brothers, Richard Edmond Bralley and David Russell Bralley, both of Speedwell; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Rural Retreat Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Haskett officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services or to the Virginia's Hospice, 308 Hickory Ave., Rural Retreat, VA 24368. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Lamie
Eleanor Lamie, age 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Francis Marion Manor. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Nannie Griffitts of Broadford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman T. Lamie; one son, Ralph Lamie; daughter, Linda Lamie; grandson, Tim Lamie; three brothers, Paul Griffitts, William Griffitts and Ralph Griffitts; and one sister, Mildred Hess.
Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law, Mac and Dolly Lamie of Saltville; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Thelma Griffitts of Chilhowie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Patrick of Bland; Kathleen and Norman Harris of Saltville and Nell and Campbell Whitley of Saltville; sisters-in-law, Christine Griffitts, Marion, Betty Griffitts, Saltville, Hester Lamie, Chilhowie, Agnes Lamie, Hannibal, N.Y., and Cordie Lamie, Tannersville; brother-in-law, Oscar Hess of Broadford; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, all of Georgia; one great-great- grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Osborne officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.
