Echols
Vance Blake Echols, age 91, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002.
He was an active member of the Riverside Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. At the time of his death he was serving as a trustee for the Riverside Church and Cemetery.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Echols owned and operated Echo Sales Company, having taken over the business after the death of his father, Ellis Baker Echols.
Survivors include: his wife, Viola Miller Echols; one son and daughter-in-law, Norman Blake and Wanda Echols of Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra (Sandy) Echols and Ray Frazier of Roanoke; two grandsons, James Blake Frazier of Greensboro, N.C., and Jason Brandon Echols of Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg; two granddaughters, Amanda Frazier Hobbs and husband Billy of Wilmington, N.C., and Whitney Blake Echols of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C.; and a special caregiver, Nancy Hand.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in Riverside Baptist Church with Riverside's pastor, the Rev. Armand Jalbert, and the Rev. Dr. Ray Frazier officiating. Interment followed at the Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Riverside Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Linda Sturgill, 1429 Riverside Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319 or to the Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Mr. Tommy Tilson, 922 Lee Highway, Marion, VA 25354.

Haga
Harley Haga, age 63 died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in the Brookhaven Nursing Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
Mr. Haga was born in Smyth County and operated a transmission shop for several years. He was preceded in death by his father Garland Howard Haga and a half brother Alan Powers.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Lee Fisher and Barbara Ann Haga, both of Asheboro, N.C.; one son, Michael Dwayne Haga; his mother, Beulah Taylor of Marion; brothers and sisters, Wayne Haga of Christiansburg, Janet Haley and Rebecca Parks, both of Marion, Marvin Powers of Silver Street, S.C., and Jeff Powers of Sugar Grove; and several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, from the Davis Cemetery in Mill Creek with the Rev. Michael Stout officiating. The family received friends Friday evening at the funeral home.

Hardin
Grady Franklin Hardin, age 66, of Raeford, N.C., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at his residence.
He was a member of God's Church World Wide.
He is survived by his wife, Louise C. Hardin of Raeford, N.C.; a son, Grady F. Hardin Jr.f Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter, Robyn H. Moore of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Curtis Hardin of Fayetteville, N.C.; four step sons, Thomas Delp of Wytheville, James Delp of Marion, Joel Cregger of Marion, and Eddie Cregger of Saltville; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford, N.C., with Mark Little officiating. Burial was at the Raeford Cemetery, Raeford, N.C.

Haynes
Susie Pearl Haynes, age 82, of Saltville, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James W "Jack" Haynes, a son, Herbert "Herbie" Haynes and a son-in-law, Edward D. "Merch" Holmes.
Survivors include: one son, Tim Haynes of Saltville; four daughters, Eleanor Holmes of Abingdon and Linda Phipps, Teresa Dickens and Tammy Carter, all of Glade Spring; one sister, Katherine Hawthorne of Bristol, Tenn.; two half-sisters, Mary Warren of Blountville, Tenn., and Dot Harrison of Atlanta; one sister-in-law, Nancy Call of Saltville; one brother-im-law, Tom Haynes of Saltville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Henderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Olinger and the Rev. Kenny Gilbert officiating. Burial followed at Mount Rose Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Tanner Haynes Fund, c/o First Advantage Bank of Meadowview.

Blevins
Kelly Hicks Blevins, age 67, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Blevins was a lifelong resident of Whitetop and was a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Patty J. Blevins; two daughters, Sherry Renee Wright of Bristol, Tenn., and Angeline Dawn Darnell of Laurel Springs, N.C.; two sons, Rock William Blevins and Rick Wayne Blevins, both of Damascus; his mother, Evangeline Blevins, Whitetop; one sister, Phyllis Johnson of Whitetop; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. in Green Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles E. "Jody" Blevins officiating. Committal service and burial will be private.

Huffman
Edward Roosevelt Huffman, age 84, of Lenoir, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 in the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville, N.C.
Mr. Huffman was born Feb. 12, 1916 in Konnarock, the son of the late William R. and Dulcia Pennington Huffman. He was also preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two brothers and one sister. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he was a church elder.
Mr. Huffman was a watch repairman at Tuttle Jewelry and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Jettie Pennington Huffman, of the home; two sons, Richard Huffman, Nashville, Tenn., and Dan Huffman, Mouth of Wilson; three daughters, Retha Huffman Nuckles, Lenoir, N.C., Opal Jean Huffman Riecke, Konnarock, and Charlotte Huffman Sayler, Hagerstown, Md.; two brothers, Ernest "Doc" Huffman, Damascus, and Jack Huffman, Konnarock; five sisters, Ella Mae Taylor, Vivian Adams, Naomi Boone, all of Konnarock, Bernice Priest, Gauley Bridge, W.Va., and Peggy Steele, Lenoir, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Konnarock with Pastor Garland Day and Pastor David Borton officiating. Burial will follow in Azen Cemetery in Konnarock. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Pendry’s Funeral Home in Lenoir, N.C.

Jones
Mary Alice Corvin Jones, age 73, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Marion Gospel Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max F. Jones; her parents, Samuel and Kate Bowman Corvin; and two brothers, Bowman A. Corvin and Roy L. Corvin.
She is survived by one stepson, Eddie Brian Jones and wife Dana, of Mouth of Wilson; one sister, Ruth Corvin Hall of Marion; two grandchildren, Amanda Jones and Adam Jones, both of Mouth of Wilson; three sisters-in-law and husbands, Della M. Corvin, Marion, Wanda Ham and husband Elworth, Linda Sharpe and husband Roger, all of Mouth of Wilson; one brother-in-law, Bobby Jones, Troutdale; two nieces and several nephews; a special friend, Billy Kiser.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Larry Smith officiating. Burial followed in Haw Orchard Cemetery in Grayson County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund, P.O. Box 1326, Marion, VA 24354.

Adams
Robert C. 'Bob' Adams, age 59, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at his home in Atkins.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a security guard at Woodgrain Millwork. He was preceded in death by his father, William Page Adams Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn 'Tootsie' Burchett Adams, Atkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kayretha and David Vanhoozer of Chilhowie, and Erin and Bobby Blevins of Rich Valley; one son, Robert 'Bobby' Adams Jr. and fiancče Missie Gragg of Atkins; his mother, Bonnie Osborne Adams of Chilhowie; three sisters, Peggy Steele of North Carolina, Thelma Owens and Shirley Barbrow, both of Chilhowie; two brothers, Junior Adams of Chilhowie and Johnny Adams of Johnson City, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Jason and Bryan Vanhoozer, both of Chilhowie, Lakin, Hayley and Hunter Adams, all of Marion.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial followed in Resurrection Gardens in Atkins.

Musser
Flora Mae Musser, age 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000 at her home in Owings Mills, Md.
Mrs. Musser was the daughter of the late Monroe and Josephine Musser of Atkins.
Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Ruth Musser, Baltimore, Md.; one sister and brother-in-law, Idabel and George Petrakos, Charlottesville.
Burial was held in Evergreen Memorial Garden in Westminister, Md.
Robinson
Stella Hall Robinson, age 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Robinson was born in Smyth County, the daughter of the late Vernon and Dinah Hall. She worked at Harwood for several years and was a member of the East End Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Robinson.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Phyllis Robinson, Marion; two granddaughters, Kim and husband Willie Cox, and Lisa and husband Dale Atwell, all of Marion; one great-grandson, Hunter Atwell, Marion; three brothers, Chester Hall and wife Elizabeth, Georgia, Preston Hall and wife Alta, and James Hall and wife Evelyn, all of Marion; four sisters, Mary Martha Taylor, Louise Wyatt and husband Raleigh, Barbara Taylor and husband Charles, all of Marion, and Elsie Rose and husband Henry, Florida; sisters-in-law, Fannie Hall, Staunton, Mary A. Robinson, Walker's Creek, and Helen Robinson, Cleghorn Valley; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m. in Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Graveside services will be held today, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the East End Baptist Church, Groseclose St., Marion, VA 24354.

Tucker
Lakie Elizabeth Tucker, age 87, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil W. Tucker, and a daughter, Peggy McDaniel. She attended Macedonia Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlene McKinnon, Marion; four grandchildren, Brock McDaniel, Lancaster, Penn., Robin Berry, Chilhowie, Diane Sheets and Melody Collins, both of Marion; four great-grandchildren, Crystal Blevins, Alicia Williams, Xavier McDaniel and Kendra Collins; one great-great-grandchild, Wynter Hall; three sisters, Mattie Troxell, Janet Cheek, and Blanche Love, all of Chilhowie.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. Burial followed in the Macedonia Cemetery.
