Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Rector
Thelma Grace Rector, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at her home in Marion.
Survivors include her husband, L.J. Rector of Marion; two daughters, Charis J. Rector of Marion, and Mary R. Ward of Charlotte, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe R. and Barbara D. Rector of Marion; two sisters, Helen Rymer Green of Long View, Texas, and Dorothy Roberson of Dandridge, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Christy Rector of San Francisco, Calif., John Rector of Dandridge, Tenn., Pamela Ward of Charlotte, N.C., Tonia Norris of Front Royal, and Monte Ward of Marion; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating.
Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery of Marion. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Winebarger
Willis E. Winebarger of Orlando, Fla., 66, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002.
He was born Oct. 11, 1935 in Marion. He retired from General Motors and was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Winebarger; two sons, Eugene Winebarger and James Winebarger, both of Chilhowie; a stepson, Kevin Rengers, and stepdaughter Tammera Crist, both of Michigan; one brother, Ronald J. Winebarger of Michigan; one sister, Mildred Rector of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Orlando. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 8, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Woodlawn Funeral Home of Orlando is in charge of arrangements.

Murrell
Joseph W. Murrell Sr., 76, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was born in Grayson County and was retired from the U.S. Forestry Service. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church in Sugar Grove and had 16 years of custodial service at First United Methodist Church in Marion. He had served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Yolanda Bethany Murrell, two sisters, Doris Jones and Loualma Polly Perkins, and one brother, Ed Murrell.
Survivors include: three daughters, Lisa Murrell of Wytheville, Denise Schmitter of Virginia Beach and Tonda Murrell of Marion; two sons, Joseph Murrell Jr. and James Murrell, both of Sugar Grove; one sister, Beulah Edwards of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Ronald Goins Sr. of Sugar Grove and Curtis Goins of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Lamar Mazon, Laneshia Perkins and Deandre Murrell; special friends that he cherished as his own family, Monica Lang and Joyce Jenkins; several nieces and nephews; and special caretaker, Martha Murrell.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 26, at Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Leslie Dean, the Rev. Bobby Baker, and the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Interment followed in the Slemp Cemetery.
Bradley's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Stone
Willie J. Stone of Bellingham, Wash., 91, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Flatridge, Va., to the late John Stone and Lula Nelson Stone.
He served over 14 years in the U.S. Army in South America and the Panama Canal Zone. In 1944 and 1945 during World War II, he was stationed in Germany with the 581st AAA-AW Battalion defending the Bridge of Remagen from being destroyed by the Germans.
Survivors include: his wife, Xenia S. Stone of Bellingham, Wash.; one daughter, Xenia Wilma Stone, M.D. and her husband, Richard Fox, M.D. of New Hampshire; two sons, James Wayne Stone and his wife, Vicki Presley Stone of Texas, and Edwin John Stone, DVM and his wife, Michelle Schraeder, DVM of Bellingham, Wash.; one grandson, Steven Stone Fox and one granddaughter, Kelly Xenia Fox, both of New Hampshire; and one sister, Edith Stone Rich of Ohio.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Rose Lawn Cemetery Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Rev. Robert L. Krenik will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 4667.
The family will receive friends after the services at the Best Western Conference Room from 2 to 5 p.m.

Walker
Kathleen Crutchfield Walker of Chilhowie, 83, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifetime resident of Chilhowie and an active member of the Chilhowie United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.S. Walker and three brothers, George Allen Crutchfield, Doug Crutchfield and Billy Crutchfield.
Survivors include: one daughter, Bobbie W. Snodgrass of Chilhowie; one grandson and his wife, Jay and Lisa Keen of Chilhowie; one brother, Philip (Cotton) Crutchfield of Chilhowie; one sister, Patsy Aker of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Keen and Lauren Keen, both of Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chilhowie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles E. Blevins and the Rev. David T. StClair officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chilhowie United Methodist Church.

Brickey
James Cutis Brickey, Sr., 60, died Monday, August 4, 2003, in The University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
He was born in Smyth County to the late Wright and Margie Brickey and was preceded in death by a sister Louise Estridge.
He had worked for the Smyth County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years, having served as chief investigator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church and the Gideons International.
Survivors are his wife of 40 years, Lois Brickey; one son, James Curtis Brickey, Jr. of Marion; one granddaughter, Jessica Brickey of Marion; one brother, William Brickey of Saltville; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Blevins and the Rev. Tim Blevins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service Aug. 6 at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 7, at 11 a.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Gideons c/o Harvey Davenport, 126 Scenic View Drive, Chilhowie, Va. 24319.

Myrtle Cundiff, 90, died Monday, August 4, 2003, in the Francis Marion Manor.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion.

Hanks
Bobby Lee Hanks, 35, died Saturday, August 2, 2003, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was a flooring installer for many years in Marion area and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and camp.
His father, Daniel Hanks, and his grandparents, Arza Sheets and Pansy Osborne Hanks, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Jones Hanks of Marion; one son, Cody Hanks of Marion; two step-daughters, Jamee and Jessica Young of Marion; a step-father and mother, Jim and Dorothy Tilson of Marion; a grandmother, Frances Sheets of Chilhowie; one sister, Teresa Oakes of Marion; one brother, Michael Tilson of Marion; a father and mother-in-law, Max and Judy Jones of Chilhowie; one niece, Rebecca Pruitt; and one nephew, Ethan Oakes.
The family received friends Tuesday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Seaver-Brown was in charge of arrangements.

Livesay
Bureda L. “Boots” Livesay, 71, died Sunday, August 3, 2003, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was born in Tazewell County to the late Frank and Laua Alderman Little and was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Richardson, and two brothers, Raymond Little and E.B. Little.
She attended the Marion College, worked for the Smyth County School Board and was a member of the Marion Baptist Church. She was a 1950 graduate of Chilhowie High School and was Homecoming Queen in 1948.
Survivors are her husband, Joseph Gail Livesay; one daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Anthony Powers of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Catherine Livesay of Salem; three grandchildren, Joseph and Jordan Powers and Tyler Livesay; seven brothers and sisters, Vera Powers, the Rev. Eugene Little, Juanita Legard, and Jimmy Little, all of Chilhowie, Carrie Boothe of Tazewell County, Betty Livengood of Blue Earth, Minn., and Shirley Vernon of Kernersville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 5, at the Marion Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Little and Dr. Bill Slater officiating.
Entombment services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Roselawn Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday at the church and at the Livesay residence.

Perkins
Ruby P. Vernon Perkins, 94, died Friday, August 1, 2003, in the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was born in Laurel Bloomery to the late Roby and Cordie Gentry Pennington.
She had retired from the Southwestern Mental Health Institute with over 32 years of service. She was a life-long member of the South Fork Baptist Church and a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Willis Blevins of Marion; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Lacy M. “Johnny” Vernon of Marion, Garland E. “Toby” and Shirley Vernon, James F. “Jim” and Ann Vernon, all of Kernersville, N.C., Arthur L. “Yab” and Wanda Vernon of Stockbridge, Ga.; two sisters, Felcia Fitchko of Marion and Gay McClure of Glouster; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 3, at Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Sheets, the Rev. Darrell Lambert and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 4, at the Thomas Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Marion Manor Activities fund, 100 Francis Marion Manor Lane, Marion, Va. 24354, or to the Thomas Cemetery, c/o Mozelle Barton, 132 Flatwoods Road, Marion, Va. 24354.
The family received friends Sunday evening at the funeral home.
