Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Austin
Charles Newton Austin, M.D., 86, of Abingdon, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was a graduate for Duke University School of Medicine and was a board certified radiologist who practiced in Southwest Virginia for 33 years.
His first wife, Ruth Vinson Austin and his sister, Margaret Hall, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Owens Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie Austin and Donald Preston of Greenville, S.C. and Anne and Mark Austin Thompson of Escondido, Calif.; two step-children and spouses, Sarah Buchanan Owens and James Bowser of Gray, Tenn., and Christopher Douglas and Suzie Owens of Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson; and several nieces.
Funeral services were held Aug. 11, with Pastor Rick Light of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church officiating. A committal service was held Aug. 12 in the Knollkreg Memorial Park with military honors.
Farris Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Barbrey
Roy William Barbrey, 72, died Monday, August 11, 2003, in the Edgemont Nursing Center in Wytheville.
He was born in Smyth County, the youngest of 10 children to the late Marion B. and Betty Jane Blevins, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors are two sons, William "Billy" Barbrey of Spartanburg, S.C. and Glenn Gross of Marion; one daughter, Wendy Barbrey of Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, H.B. "Billy" Barbrey of Belews Creek, N.C.; two grandchildren, Aaron and Bryan Barbrey; a special friend, Elsie Gross of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Wassum Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
Bradley’s Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.

Call
Clarence Swanson Call of Glade Spring died Thursday, August 7, 2003, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born August 28, 1918. Call was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had received two Purple Hearts and was a Bronze Star recipient. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Coe Call, his mother, Blanche Call, one sister, Evelyn Doane, and two brothers, Allen and Carl Call.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie Marie Joannou Call of Glade Spring; one sister, Ruth Fullen of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m., August 10, at Mount Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Saltville VFW Post #7328.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Davis
William R. "Bill" Davis, 61, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, on his birthday, at his residence in Marion.
He was born in Smyth County to the late William Crone Davis and Ocie Stillwell Davis and was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy C. Davis, and two daughters, Carol Davis and Kristy Joy Davis. He was a member of the Wassum Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Davis; five daughters and sons-in-law, Evangela Ann and Michael Poston, Teresa Davis Whitley, Rebekah Ivane and Ronnie Martin, Sebrina Grey and Bradley Farris, all of Marion, and Nancy Alanna and Tommy Kegley of Crockett; three sons and a daughter-in-law, William Carl and Nanette Davis, Raymond Troy Davis, and Joseph William Davis, all of Marion; two step-daughters, Karen McClung of West Virginia and Sherry Day Myers of South Carolina; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond "Jake" and Patsy Ann Davis of Marion; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley "Sis" Quillen of Marion and Betty "Sue" and Lowell Blevins of Chilhowie; grandchildren, 10 grandchildren; one step-grandson; many special friends including Kathy Eastridge and Michael Pruitt; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Aug. 11 from Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Michael Hopkins officiating. Graveside services were held Aug. 12, at the Wassum Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bradley’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Farris
Olivene M. Farris, 83, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at her daughters’ home in Lawrenceville, Ga.
She was a member of the McCready United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred. L. Farris, and son Harry J. Farris.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Walter Evans of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Asbury of Saltville and Robert Asbury of Marion; one sister, Jane Leach of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., August 9, at the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Elizabeth Cemetery.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frye
Marvin Arnett Frye, 76, died August 8, 2003, at his home.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church of Saltville. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 5th Ranger division.
Frye was preceded in death by his father and mother, Riley and Doskey Frye, a brother, Earl Frye, and a sister, Gladys Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Frye; one daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Gene Holley of Saltville; one grandson, Eugene and Cathy Holley of Saltville; one great-grandson, Keith Holley of Saltville; one brother and sister-in-law, Riley and Betty Frye, Jr. of Saltville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda Frye and Liddy Taylor, both of Saltville, Peggy and Dan Thomas of Glade Spring, and Stelma Gobble of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m.,August 11, at the Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Briggs and the Rev. John Roe officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Saltville V.F.W. Post 7328 conducting military rites.

Hall
Lee Preston (Bobby) Hall, 59, of Troutdale, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
Born June 12, 1944, at Troutdale to Leander and Mazelle Thorne Hall. His parents, and a sister, Elizabeth H. Johnson, preceded him in death.
Survivors including his wife, Roxanne Gross Hall, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law. Bobby Lee Hall, of the home, and Andy and Kristie Hall of Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jeff Cole of Fries; one brother and sister-in-law, Hobert and Trish Hall of Troutdale; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae and Ronnie Frye of Troutdale, Marie and the Rev. Larry Peake of Mouth of Wilson, Clara Mae and Lee Gullion of Atkins; a brother-in-law James Johnson of Independence; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wed., August 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. in Troutdale Baptist Church. Interment in Troutdale Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Eller, the Rev. Ralph Surber and the Rev. Ken Riggins officiating.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lowe
Garland G. Lowe, 73, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Osborne
Peggy L. Osborne, 63, of Damascus, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at her residence.
She was a lifelong resident of Damascus and is the daughter of R.M. Osborne of Damascus and the late Grace Trivette Osborne. In additional to her mother, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie W. Osborne and two nephews, Scott Osborne and Danny Osborne, Jr.
She retired in 2001 from Columbus McKinnon and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, two brothers also survive her, Bob Osborne of Damascus and Danny Osborne, Sr. of Meadowview; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay Seymore and Vernie of Abingdon, Claudine and Henry Owens of South Boston and her companion of 43 years, Kelly Weaver, of Troutdale, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was conducted August 11 at the graveside in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus with the Rev. James Gentry officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 165 East Main St., Abingdon, Va., 24210.

Richardson
Hank Richardson, 75, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, in Newark, Ohio.
He was a longtime resident of Marion and had recently moved to Newark, Ohio area. Funeral services and burial will be private.

Ross
Cora James Ross, 98, of Gant, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in a Harve De Grace, Md. nursing home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1904 in Flatridge to Perry Dock and Emma Ward James. She was the widow of Earl C. Ross, Sr., and was preceded in death by three sons, Earl C. Ross, Jr., Ray Ross and Victor C. Ross.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Viola Ross of Darlington, Md.; two daughters-in-law, Mary C. Ross of Troutdale and Gloria Ross of Whiteford, Md.; one brother, Wiley James, Sr. of Wytheville; eight grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,11 great-great grandchildren, and five step-great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Aug. 9, at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Gant with the interment in the church cemetery with the Rev. Al Stanley and the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating.

Sexton
Edna Blevins Sexton, 86, died Sunday, August 10, 2003, in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of Walter W. Sexton and was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Hubert Nelson "Chip" Sexton, Jr. and one son-in-law, Kenneth Wike.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Vern and Elaine Sexton of Colfax, N.C., Nelson and Gladys Sexton of Eden, N.C., Wayne and Barbara Sexton of Lilesville, N.C. and Don and Martha Sexton of High Point, N.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda S. Wike of Taylorsville, N.C., Anita and Ray Wood of Archdale, N.C.; two sisters, Effie Blevins and Erma Martin, both of Chilhowie; one brother, Ernest Blevins of Abingdon; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Aug. 12 at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd L. Sheets and the Rev. Darrell Lambert officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grosses Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Bill Boswell, P.O. Box 1722, Chilhowie, Va. 24319.

Terry
Dawson Luke Terry, infant, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville.
He is survived by his parents, Jason and Alicia King Terry of Rural Retreat; a twin brother, Colton Lane Terry of Rural Retreat; maternal grandparents, Clyde Jr. and Sandy King of Rural Retreat; paternal grandparents, David Terry, and Debra Terry, both of Rural Retreat; great-grandparents, Pansy and Billie Cornett of Marion, Clyde Sr. and Lucille King of Crockett, E.E. and Marsha Terry of Rural Retreat, and Jean and Carl Williams of Sparta, N.C.; and uncles and an aunt, Steve and Sabrina King, and Levi Terry, all of Rural Retreat.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m. at the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Haskett officiating.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but the family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 14, at the residence any time before the 4 p.m. service.
