Pennington
Frances Gertrude Pennington, age 76, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000.
Mrs. Pennington was formerly of Oviedo, Fla., and was the beloved wife of the late Samuel J. Pennington.
Survivors include one son, Robert A. Pennington; one daughter, Katherine E. Frye; one sister, Cecilia E. Winnie; two brothers, Robert T. Allen and Stuart E. Allen; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. in Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Azen Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to call the funeral home after 11 a.m. today.

Sturgill
Charles Clarence "Cat" Sturgill, age 91, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Sturgill was born Feb. 8, 1908 and was a retired employee of the Brunswick Corporation.
Surviving are two sons, Roger C. Sturgill and James D. Sturgill, both of Chilhowie; one brother, James L. Sturgill, Salem; four sisters, Blanch Jones, Chilhowie, Ruth Wolfard, Bristol, Pearl Heath , Marion, and Dora Leigh Russell, Salem; one granddaughter, Debra L. Sturgill, Chilhowie; two grandsons, Brian D. Sturgill, Brooklyn Heights, Ohio and Kevin C. Sturgill, Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn P. Sturgill and Linda C. Sturgill, both of Chilhowie.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Armand Jalbert officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Boehm
Ralph George Boehm, age 74, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 in Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn.
In 1991, Mr. Boehm was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris Pansick Boehm. He graduated with honors in economics from the University of Wisconsin after serving in the U.S. Navy as a radio technician in the Pacific theatre in World War II.
Mr. Boehm was employed by Consolidated Forwarding Company as Terminal Manager, Supervisor of Transportation at J.I. Case Company and Traffic Manager of Modine Manufacturing in Racine, Wisc., before coming to Virginia in 1968. He retired in 1992 as Division Manager of Donner Mouldings.
In the past 30 years he has been a foster father of over 100 teenage girls. He was currently Chief de Gare of 40/8 and held both local and state offices in the past. Mr. Boehm was very active on the local and state level of American Legion and was adjutant of Post 18, having held Commander and Vice Commander Posts in the past, was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, Foster Parents Association, Smyth County Historical Society and several bridge clubs.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, a 4th Degree Knight, Father Iaken 1840 in Kingsport, Tenn. He was an accomplished violinist, enjoyed big band jazz, and was an antique car lover. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and was an active civic leader.
Mr. Boehm is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolores Igl Boehm of Marion; five sons and two daughters: David and wife Dottie Boehm of Marion, twins, Stephen and wife Barbara Boehm of Syracuse Utah, and James and wife Judy Boehm of Atlanta, Ga.; Mark Boehm of Atlanta, Ga.; twins, Ralph and wife Gay Boehm of Atlanta, Ga., and Renee Boehm of Wytheville; and Mary Rose Boehm, M.D., Charleston, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, Christina, Jennifer, Aaron, Sarah, Kyrai, James and Joseph Boehm and Jacob Askren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo, Wisc. A Parish Wake Service will be held today at 4 p.m. and there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo, Wisc. The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo, Wisc. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo, Wisc. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Smyth County Historical Society, P.O. Box 710, Marion, VA 24354.

Hunley
Helen Virginia Hunley, age 93, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Hunley was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late John and Molly Clemmons. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Crockett Hunley and an infant son, James Crockett Hunley. She was a member of the Maranatha Church of God.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Doris L. and Jack BeCraft, Jean E. Hunley, all of Wytheville, and Mary Madeline Picard of Newport News; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randolph and Marie Hunley, Donald A. and Sue Hunley, all of Wytheville, and William and Lorriane Hunley of Ceres; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Maranatha Church of God with the Rev. Tony Holley officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.

Lambert
Gertrude Lambert, age 73, of Chilhowie, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Miss Lambert was a resident of Ridgefield Retirement Home in Chilhowie.
She is survived by many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with burial to follow at a later date in Round Hill Cemetery.

McCleary
Edith Pennington McCleary, age 79, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 in Robertsdale, Ala.
Mrs. McCleary was a native of Atkins.
Surviving are her husband, Stewart McCleary, Robertsdale, Ala.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald E. and Patricia McCleary, Robertsdale, Ala.; two sisters, Ruth Vernon, York, Penn., and Martha Hash, Atkins; one brother, Edward Pennington, Marion; three grandchildren; five nieces.

McIntyre
Ernest Franklin McIntyre, age 62, of Atkins, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. McIntyre was preceded in death by his father, Emory McIntyre and a brother, Lloyde "Pete" McIntyre.
Survivors include three sisters, Betty Stovall of Glade Spring, Dorothy Greer of Marion, and Ruby Mae McIntyre of Atkins; three brothers, Clarence McIntyre, Bobby Joe McIntyre, and Kenneth McIntyre, all of Atkins; six nieces, five nephews, two great-nieces and seven great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. in Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Miller
Mary Sexton Miller, age 71, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 at her home in Bristol, Tenn.
Mrs. Miller was born in Wythe County and had lived most of her life in Washington County before moving to Bristol in 1990. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Nanna McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert V. Miller.
She is survived by five sons, Scott Sexton, Glade Spring, Charles "Corky" Sexton and Dale Sexton, both of Abingdon, Roger Sexton and Wayne Sexton, both of Glade Spring; four daughters, Annette Caudill, Abingdon, Marlene Dickenson, Bristol, Pam Minnick, Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., and Cindy Miller, Bristol, Tenn.; three brothers, Gene A. McKinney, Powell, Wyo., Ira M. McKinney, Marion, and Richard O. McKinney, Manassas; five sisters, Ella Roberts, Phoenix, Ariz., Iris Rich, Galax, Mozelle Eversole and Naomi King, both of Wytheville, and Stella Cox, Rural Retrat; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Pennington
Charles Albert Pennington, age 73, of Bastian, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in his home where he resided with his daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Michael "Dickie" Rivers, along with his granddaughters, Iola Townley and Tabatha Umberger.
He was born in Smyth County, the son of Emma Pennington Bane. He was in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Connley, DE 450, 3rd Fleet and a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in Germany.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Geraldine Blankinship.
Other survivors include five children: Frank Pennington of Craig County, Kathy Looney, Sheila Rivers, Randy Pennington, all of Bastian, and Tammy Brescia of Milton, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating. Interment followed in the Rosehill Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #9. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Bland County Rescue Squad.

Daphne Rhea Ward, age 56, of Saltville, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the McCready Methodist Church and was a resident of Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Edward Ward and a sister, Shelby Lorraine Burch.
Surviving are her mother, Helen Kelly Ward, Saltville; two sisters, Joan Puckett, Southern Pines, N.C., and Grayson Macdonald, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Leslie Ward, Fincastle, and Blaine Ward, Saltville; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 15, at 3 p.m. at the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating.

Wolfe
Mabel Anderson Wolfe, age 73, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Wolfe was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was a member of the VFW Post #4667 Ladies Auxiliary and was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Chapter #72 in Marion. She worked for Harwood for many years and later helped her husband at Hungry Mother Grocery.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis J. Wolfe of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Gearhart of Chesterfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Sherry Wolfe and Junior and Linda Wolfe, all of Marion; one sister, Mary Lineberry of Burlington, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Charles DeHart and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Brickey
Lois Dungan Brickey, age 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000 at her home in Broadford.
Mrs. Brickey was a member of the Roberts Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.P. (Carl) Brickey Sr.
Mrs. Brickey was a graduate of Chilhowie High School. She attended Radford University and Emory & Henry College. She was a teacher for 40 years in the Smyth County School System and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, C.P. Jr. and Sue Brickey, Broadford; one daughter and son-in-law, Page and Gary Arnold, Saltville; three grandchildren, Preston Brickey, Kathy Pearce and Gary Arnold II; four great-grandchildren, Carl Preston Brickey IV, Alex Michael Brickey, Chelsea Page Pearce and Morgan Katherine Pearce; one sister, Marguerite Bunch, Seven Mile Ford; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. William Cahill and the Rev. Harry Tindall officiating. Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Middle Fork Cemetery.
