James "Jim" Mutter Sr., age 65, of Saltville, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Dean Mutter of Saltville; his ex-wife, Cora Lee Cregger of Saltville; one daughter, Janet Lee Hess of Chilhowie; three sons, James A. Mutter Jr., Ricky Dean Mutter and Freeman Lee Mutter, all of Saltville; five sisters, Marie Hall, Patricia Raines and Elizabeth Finch, all of Bristol, Rosemary Smithson of Bluff City, Tenn., and Birdie Ratliff of Chilhowie; four brothers, William Mutter of Bristol, George Mutter and Frank Mutter, both of Abingdon, and Joseph Mutter of Valdosta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hutton officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Community Cemetery in Ceres.

Snider
Robert "Bobby" Snider Sr., age 65, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000 at his home in Glade Spring.
Mr. Snider was a son of the late Ralph and Ruth Snider and a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He retired from East Tennessee Natural Gas Co., after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph "R.C." Snider Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Shupe Snider; one son, Robert "Robbie" Snider of Meadowview; one daughter, Rea Jenkins of Abingdon; three sisters, Mrs. George (Catherine) Walker, Mrs. Thomas (Louise) Cullop and Mrs. Dempsey (Dorothy) Odham, all of Marion; six grandchildren, Brandon Browning, Derrick and Daniel Snider, and Haley, William and Elizabeth Jenkins; several nieces and nephews; a daughter-in-law, Robin Snider, Meadowview; son-in-law, Richard Jenkins of Abingdon.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Memorial contributions may be sent to Mount Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Catherine Deese, 580 Fowler St., Marion, VA 24354.

Wymer
Annie Wymer, age 87, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Wymer was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Wymer and was also a member of the Matson Chapel of the Stone Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and C.L. Shuler, Marion; one very devoted and loving granddaughter, Michelle Shuler; a very loving grandson, Pastor Rick Shuler.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 25, in Bradley’s Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Shuler officiating. Interment followed in Rowland Cemetery.

Anderson
Arlie Holmes (Edward) Anderson, age 73, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 6, 1926, the son of the late James A. and Mary Thelma Patterson Anderson. He was married to the late Eulis Rogers Anderson of Marion, formerly of Boydton. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army and retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in 1989.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667 and the Marion Church of God.
He is survived by one son, Roger A. Anderson of Boydton; three sisters, Dorothy A. Stevenson of Saltville, Shirley A. Helton of Marion, and Linda A. Doyle of Wytheville; three brothers, Robert M. Anderson, John C. Anderson and Neal Anderson, all of Marion.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Alley officiating. The committal service will be held Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. a Fields United Methodist Church Cemetery near Boydton.

Cole
Frank Walter Cole, age 89, of Chilhowie, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cole was born in Washington County and was the son of the late James Albert Hugh and Eunice (Dolly) Edmondson Cole. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ada Blevins Cole.
He retired from Olin Matheson in Saltville after 32 years of service. After retiring, he traded cattle and farmed. He was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church and Chilhowie Masonic Lodge #250 A.F. & A.M., and received his 50 year pin in 1999.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Jack D. Cole, Abingdon; three grandchildren, James (Jay) Albert Hugh Cole II, Chilhowie, the Rev. Anthony Dean Cole, Oneida, Tenn., and Jennifer Deskins Keuls, Harrisonburg; five great-grandchildren, Robbie Phillips, Katie Cole, Amanda Cole, Sammy Cole and Quinton Keuls.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. in Mountain View United Methodist Church with Mr. Cole’s grandson Rev. Anthony Dean Cole, and Pastor John H. Graham officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Graveside rites were conducted by Chilhowie Masonic Lodge #250 A.F. & A.M. Walter V. Cornett Sr., age 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 in Catawba Hospital in Catawba.
Mr. Cornett was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie Riggles Cornett of Martinsville; three daughters, Linda C. Shields of Martinsville, and Sheila C. Roope of Petersburg, and Barbara Pierce of Marion; five sons, Walter V. Cornett Jr., Marion, Donald V. Cornett and Walter E. Cornett, both of Bassett, Robert Vance Cornett of Rural Retreat, and Eddie Wayne Pierce of Marion; five sisters, Nedaro Authenrieth of Atkins, Viola McElroy of Atlanta, Ga., Lena McMillan of Fountain Valley, Calif., Carmen Henley of Florida and Virginia Dare Poff of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Sherwood Cornett of Marion, and Robert "Kyle" Cornett of Bristol; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Hill Cemetery in Troutdale where full military rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.

Jackson
Stella M. Jackson, age 82, of Saltville, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Surviving are a brother, Ervin Jackson of Saltville; two sisters, Roxie Davenport of Tannersville, and Sylvia Woodward of Saltville; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Friday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. in Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. Clarence Frye officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Saltville Rescue Squad.

Sale
Donna Davis Sale, age 70, of Roanoke, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000 .
Mrs. Sale was born on Nov. 14, 1929, the oldest of six children born to the late Clyde and Iris Davis of Pungo, N.C. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Charles "Chuck" Sale.
Mrs. Sale was a 1947 graduate of Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond. She was employed by the Olin Matheson Chemical Corporation in Saltville for 10 years.
Surviving are a son, Charles "Wally" Sale III of Newport News; two daughters, Donita Sale Peverall of Salem, and Cheryle Sale Harvey and husband Kim of Bristol, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Matthew, Ian and Leslie Sale, Judson "Judd" Peverall, Tyler and Dylan Harvey; three sisters, Carla Davis Bruce and husband Walter of Washington N.C., Thelma Davis Terry and husband Bill of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Anna Davis Gallegher and husband George "Slip" of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Clyde W. Davis Jr. and wife Gloria of Raleigh, N.C., and Gary E. Davis and wife "B.J." of Arnold, Md; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel in Roanoke with Michael Carter, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Bear
David Franklin Bear, age 80, of Atkins, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Bear was a member of the Davis Memorial United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Board of Trustees. He was a lifetime resident of Atkins and was a 1937 graduate of Atkins High School.
Mr. Bear was a member of the Atkins Ruritan Club and served as Club President. He served as Zone Governor, District Governor, and National Director for Ruritan National. He also represented the Atkins District on the Smyth County Board of Supervisors for six years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charmie G. Bear of Atkins; one son and daughter-in-law, David F. "Jim" Bear Jr. and wife Betty Jo of Rural Retreat; three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Sonny Kirk, Debby and Eddie Hanshew, all of Atkins, and Pat and Peter Huber of Pulaski; eight grandchildren, Leigh Hess, Ann Nairn, Mary Beth Carter, Stephen Bear, Joanne Thiessen, James Bear, Jeff Hanshew and Matt Hanshew; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Harry Howe and the Rev. Rita E. White officiating. Burial followed in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Marion. Bowling
Lillian M. Bowling, age 88, of Seven Lakes, N.C., formerly of Princeton, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 in Seven Lakes, N.C.
Mrs. Bowling was born Jan. 31, 1911, the daughter of the late Jim and Cleive McGuire. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton. She had lived in Seven lakes for the past seven years moving from Princeton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Bowling Jr., and one son, James M. Bowling.
Survivors include one son, L.G. Bowling III and wife Nancy of Seven Lakes, N.C.; one daughter, Mitzi Hundley and husband Walter of Seven Lakes, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Gail Bowling of Winston-Salem, N.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted today, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton, W.Va., with the Rev. Clifford Schell officiating. Friends may call at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 10 a.m. until service time today. Moses M. DeBord Sr., age 60, formerly of Laurel, Del., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 at his home in Saltville.
Mr. DeBord was preceded in death by his parents, James and Louise DeBord; his father-in-law, Carl Slate; and a son-in-law, Paul Laren Tamosaitis.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Paige Slate DeBord; two sons and daughters-in-law, Moses and Julie DeBord Jr., Laurel, Del., and Mark and Brenda DeBord of Delmar, Del.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terry Tamosaitis-Rodenbaugh and John Rodenbaugh Sr., Laurel, Del., and Jennifer and Phillip Adkins of Delmar, Md.; 17 grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bonner and Linda DeBord of Oak Hall, W.Va., and Herschel and Christine DeBord of Bristol; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and George Kelly of Bristol; 18 nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Beulah Slate.

Ruby Lee Smith Dillman, age 94, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000.
Mrs. Dillman was born Jan. 19, 1906 in Smyth County, near Nebo in Rich Valley. She married Gardner Holmes Dillman on Dec. 13, 1925.
She is survived by her son, Rodney H. Dillman, Troutville; her daughter, Gertrude C. Fleshman, Roanoke; one sister, Hazel L. Calhoun, Oak Hill, W.Va.; grandchildren, William D. Arrington and wife Teri, Rodney S. Dillman, Ashley I. Dillman, Jessica K. Dillman, Barrett H. Dillman; their mother, Jackie Singleton; great-grandchildren, Kristi M. Arrington, Corey W. Arrington, and Casey T. Arrington; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Carol S. Wickersham, Troutville.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville with interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Botetourt County Public Schools Education Foundation Inc., 143 Poor Farm Road, Fincastle, VA 24090, or to a charity of choice.
