Edmondson
Margaret Irene Edmondson, age 72, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000 at her home in Friendship community.
Ms. Edmondson was born in Radford, a daughter of the late Isaac and Margaret Cole Edmondson. She had lived in the Friendship community for the past 50 years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was a song leader, teacher, WMU leader, librarian and held many other positions. She was employed as a seamstress for more than 30 years with Harwood Manufacturing Co. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William C. and Charles E. Edmondson.
Surviving are two brothers, James R. Edmondson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Roy H. Edmondson of Bel Air, Md.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with burial in Mountain View Baptist Cemetery.

Edwards
Arnold Burns Edwards Sr., age 78, of Rural Retreat, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 in Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mr. Edwards was born in Dickenson County, the son of the late Jona and Virgie Owens Edwards. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked faithfully for almost 40 years as part owner and proprietor of Edwards Radio, TV Sales & Service in Rural Retreat.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Miller Edwards and his second wife, Betty Lou Crider Edwards.
He is survived by one daughter, Treasa Kay Mills of Wytheville; two sons, Tim Edwards and Arnold B. Edwards Jr., both of Rural Retreat; two grandchildren, Joshua James Blizzard and Amelia Ann Blizzard; one great-grandchild, Lance Gregory Blizzard; one sister, Flora E. Owens, Rural Retreat; two brothers, Leamon Edwards of Rural Retreat, and Claude Edwards of Dublin.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hoyle and Pastor Edward Schaack officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with graveside military rites being conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Garcia
Felipe Ignacio Garcia Jr., age 66, of Chilhowie, formerly of Norfolk, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
There are no immediate survivors.
Interment was in National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn.

Hash
Addie Carless Hash, age 91, formerly of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 at his home in the Maples Retirement Center in Bluefield, W.Va.
Mr. Hash was born in Grayson County, the son of the late Watson and Nannie Halsey Hash. He was an avid bowler in the Senior Bowling Leagues in Bluefield, W.Va., and Marion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kansas Lester Hash.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Haynes
James William Haynes, age 82, of Saltville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Haynes was a son of the late Fred and Edna Haynes and a retired employee of Olin Matheson Corp. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Quarry Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Herbert Haynes.
Surviving are his wife, Susie O. Haynes; one son, Tim Haynes of Saltville; four daughters, Eleanor Holmes, Linda Phipps, Teresa Dickens and Tammy Carter, all of Glade Spring; one sister, Nancy Call of Saltville; one brother, Tom Haynes of Saltville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Cullop and the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Saltville Rescue Squad.

Petersen
Vernon Petersen, age 89, of Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000.
Mrs. Peterson was born in Grayson County, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Hattie Cole Burger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter M. Petersen; one brother, Archie Burger; and one sister, Virginia Traux.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Pickle, Rural Retreat, and Bertie Cutler of Camarillo, Calif.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat.

Privett
Thelma Testerman Privett, age 66, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 at her home in Troutdale.
Mrs. Privett was born June 8, 1933 at Grant, the daughter of Neal and Cloie Zina Stone Testerman. She was the widow of Arvel C. Privett. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Maynard and Arlin Privett.
Mrs. Privett was a member of Razor Ridge Baptist Church.
Surviving are nine daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Arthur Sherwood, Marion, Bonnie and Robert Pauley, Donnie Privett, Dolly Privett, Ohna and Jim Richardson, Jodie Privett, Kathy and Mike Johnson, Cloie and Lorne Anders, all of Troutdale, Teresa and Ronnie Dolinger, Mouth of Wilson; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Margie Privett, Troutdale, and Henry Privett, of the home; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Don and Betty Testerman, Bill and Mabel Testerman, Buges Testerman, James Testerman, all of Street, Md., Ramon Testerman, Troutdale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Dan Ross, and Anna Mae and Harry Crumrine, all of Street, Md.; special friends of the family, Clarita and Jerry Warren; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Allen Stuart Osborne, age 76, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 at his home in Ripplemead.
Mr. Osborne was born in Quarry, Smyth County, on Feb. 17, 1923, the son of the late Archie S. and Lillie Hogston Osborne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and a retired employee of Sears Service Department.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eleanor Sessor Osborne and a daughter, Alisha Chiemi Osborne.
Surviving are two sons, John F. Osborne of Burke, and Marcus A. Osborne of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Debra J. Osborne of Ripplemead, Bobbi D. Osborne of Radford, and Nancy O. Altizer of Chester; one brother, Scott G. Osborne of Fairmont, W.Va.; one sister, Kathleen Roberts of Saltville; one grandson, Joseph J. Osborne of Radford.
Graveside services will be conducted today, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Birchlawn Abbey mausoleum chapel in Pearisburg. There will be no public visitation.

Woods
Howard Thomas Woods, age 78, of Saltville, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
Mr. Woods was the widower of Mattie Mae Woods.
Surviving are three sons, Joe Woods and James Woods, both of Saltville, and Danny Woods of Chilhowie; two daughters, Ann Simms and Patricia Woods, both of Saltville; three brothers, Dale Woods of Marion, Edgar Woods of Tennessee and Charles Woods of Glade Spring; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Kathleen Prater.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Duff officiating. Burial was in Glade Spring Baptist Cemetery.
