Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Buchanan
Margaret Virginia Buchanan, age 84, of Rich Valley, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 at the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
Ms. Buchanan was the oldest daughter of the late Charlie and Myrtle Buchanan and was also preceded in death by four brothers.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Ethel Burkett of Rich Valley, and Annie B. Novak of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two brothers, Robert Buchanan, Chilhowie, and Howard Buchanan, Darby, Mont.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Ridgedale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be sent to the Saltville Rescue Squad.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Cleary
Homer Glen Cleary, age 91, of Troutdale, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cleary was born May 2, 1908 at Ashe County, N.C., to Robert "Bob" Cleary and Mattie Brown Cleary.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl Cleary, of the home; four stepdaughters, Rebecca Haga, of the home, Sarah Hill, Fort Pierce, Fla., Lucy Fox, Nicholsville, Tenn., and Margaret Criggar, Galax; two stepsons, Cecil Haga, Troutdale, and Edgar Haga, Marion; one grandson and spouse, Michael Bryson and Catherine Cleary, Glade Spring; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Cleary, Matthew Cleary and Megan Cleary; several step and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. in Comers Creek Baptist Church in Troutdale with the Rev. Andy Blevins, Mr. John Lee Suitt, the Rev. Dennis Eller, the Rev. Lundy Finley and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment was in Comers Creek Cemetery.
Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence was in charge of arrangements.

Crouse
Rachel Wanda Call Crouse, age 77, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are her husband, Earnest H. Crouse; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris Ann and James G. Coe, Glade Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Patty Allison Crouse, Saltville; three grandchildren, Elaine Coe, Bristol, Tenn., Maria Coe Olinger, Chilhowie, and Blake Coe, Centreville; four great-grandchildren, Angela Olinger Wilson, Carrie Olinger, Joshua and Jacob Coe; one great-great-grandchild, Santana Wilson; one brother, Buddy E. Call, Saltville; two sisters-in-law, Ann Call and Elsie Call, Saltville.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Walker, the Rev. E.C. Little and the Rev. Marlin Jaynes Jr., officiating. Burial was at the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Gwyn
Rush C. Gwyn III, age 72, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000 in the skilled care unit of The Highlands of Wyomissing, Berks County, Penn.
Mr. Gwyn was born in Chatham Hill, the son of the late John M. and Ivy Madeline Travis Gwyn. He was a 1951 graduate of Virginia Tech having earned a BS degree in Animal Husbandry. He completed the first Master Gardner Course Program at the Berks County Agricultural Center. He was last employed as a field engineer for the Mutual Inspection Bureau, Harrisburg, Penn., for 20 years.
Mr. Gwyn was a member of the Rajah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Reading, Penn., where he was past president of the Director’s Staff. He was active in the Daniel Boone Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he was a former scoutmaster in Fritztown, Penn. He was presently president of the Welsh Society of Berks County and was the present treasurer of the Pennsylvania Welsh Society. He was chairman of the Grounds Committee of the Resident’s Association at the Highlands at Wyomissing.
He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing where he was a former church councilman and past president of church council in 1975. He was also a past chairman of the property committee. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, June E. LaMotte Gwyn; two sons, John M. Gwyn, Panama City, Fla., and David W. Gwyn, Lansdale, Penn.; one daughter, Sallie C. Gwyn Weber, Lincoln Park, Penn.; two sisters, Carolyn Gwyn Campbell, Saltville, and Madeline Gwyn Pearson, Roanoke; two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, Penn.
Bean Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. in Sinking Spring, Penn., was in charge of arrangements.

McLaughlin
Georgia E. McLaughlin, age 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 at her home in Marion.
Mrs. McLaughlin was the widow of Thomas M. McLaughlin and the daughter of the late Corbett and Pearl Barker Testerman.
Survivors include five children, Cindy McCoy of Chilhowie, David C. McLaughlin of Pulaski, Mary K. McLaughlin, Michael A. Henry and Sara M. Burchett, all of Marion; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law, Greg McCoy, Larry Testerman, Lewis "Jr." Burchett, and Debbie Martin; two special friends, Sally and Beezy.
Graveside services will be held today, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Please meet at Barnett’s Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. to join the procession to the grave.

McQueen
Frances Rose McQueen, age 79, of Rural Retreat, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
She was born in Ashe County, N.C., the daughter of the late Samuel and Nora Black Caudill. She regularly attended the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church and had retired from Vaughans Furniture Factory in Galax.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence McQueen, three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Nora Kay Welch, Elizabethton, Tenn., Alice Joan and Roger Crigger, Rural Retreat, and Shelia and Larry Mooney, Max Meadows; three sisters, Ollie McQueen, Katherine Trivette, both of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Barbara Davis, Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Jack Caudill, Lansing, N.C.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. A committal service was held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Rural Retreat. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Hospice of Southwest Virginia or to the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund.

Thomas
Kermit W. Thomas Sr., age 59, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at his home in Damascus.
Mr. Thomas was born in Tazewell, a son of the late Mart and Mary Thomas. He had lived in Washington County most of his life and was a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Virgie M. Thomas; five daughters, Patsy Green of Chilhowie, Rachel Thomas, April Sue Thomas and Pauline Thomas, all of the home, and Angel Thomas of Glade Spring; one son, Kermit Thomas Jr., Glade Spring; five sisters, Ann Harr and Thelma Harris, both of Bristol, Tenn., June Hayden of Saltville, Nancy Toon of Damascus, and Betty Joe Compton of Crockett; four brothers, Robert Thomas of Rural Retreat, Roger Thomas and Sonny Thomas, both of Wytheville, and Elmer Thomas of Blountville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Baumgardner officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Glade Spring.
Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus was in charge of arrangements.

Harmon
Sherman Bays Harmon, age 86, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Harmon was born in Grayson County, the son of the late John T. and Mary Shell Harmon. He was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Jerry B. Harmon; two sisters, Hazel Bedford and Wilma Harmon; three brothers, Charles, Hubert and Ballard Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Della Hilton Harmon; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and George Williams of Bluefield; one grandson, Jason Williams, Bluefield; three sisters, Irene Barton, Atkins, Blanche Vaught, Rural Retreat, and Ruby Wagner, Merritt Island, Fla.; one brother, Willard Harmon, Atkins; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services.

Houston
Glenn Houston Hunt, age 58, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 at his home in Saltville.
Mr. Hunt was a disabled retiree from Brunswick Corp., and was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bram and Mammie Hunt; one brother, Melvin Hunt; one granddaughter, Hannah Roop.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma Rhea Hunt; one son, Randy Lee Hunt, Saltville; one daughter, Rhonda Hunt Roop, Saltville; two brothers, Lincoln Hunt and Ted Hunt, both of Saltville; four sisters, Loreen Wilson, Josie Nunley, Billie Roark and Connie Martin, all of Saltville; four grandchildren, Tessa Roop, Haley Roop, Jeremy Hunt and Julia Hunt, all of Saltville; one daughter-in-law, Tina Hunt, Saltville; one son-in-law, Robert Roop, Saltville; two special friends, Eddie Stokes and Mac Davidson.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Kestner officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Inscor
Emma Marie Inscor, age 88, of Darlington, Md., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at Mariner Health of Bel Air in Bel Air, Md.
Mrs. Inscor was born on June 8, 1911 in Independence, the daughter of the late Harvey and Carrie Maude (Phipps) Rutherford. She moved to Harford County from Virginia in 1956. She worked at Walter’s Dairy Farm at Forest Hill, Md., from 1956 to 1964 and then at several other local farms. From 1972 to 1974 she worked at the Ballpark Diner, Street, Md. She enjoyed gardening.
Mrs. Inscor was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Inscor, on July 5, 1972; by a brother, Fairbanks Phipps; a sister, Mettie McMillan; and great-grandsons, Michael David Musick and Kenneth Casey Musick.
Surviving are four daughters, Ina Ruth Musick and Martha Musick, both of Troutdale, Olive Jones of Dallastown, Penn., and Wilma Hall of Delta, Penn.; two sons, Henry L. Inscor and George T. Inscor, both of Darlington, Md.; two brothers, Enoch Rutherford and Woodrow Rutherford, both of Gold Hill Community; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tonight, Feb. 23, at 8:30 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home in Delta, Penn., with Dr. John E. McKnight, pastor of the Evangelical Methodist Church, and pastor Donnie Cogdill of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. before the service. Graveside services and interment will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at Ascension Cemetery, Dublin Road, Street, Md., with Dr. John E. McKnight officiating. Contributions may be made to the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 178, Darlington, Md. 21034 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 17025, Baltimore, Md. 21203.

Knoll
Helen Privett McCormick Knoll, age 71, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Knoll was the daughter of the late Esther and Ambrose Privett and was a very devoted mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was a member of the East End Baptist Church in Marion.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard McCormick Sr.; a son Gary; and a brother Bill Privett.
Survivors include three sons, Howard McCormick and Don McCormick, both of Marion, and David McCormick of Atkins; two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Betty Widner, both of Marion; one brother, Riley (June) Privett, Annandale; four grandchildren, Randy McCormick, Ricky McCormick, Tony McCormick and Jessica McCormick; three daughters-in-law, Brenda, Joyce and Carol; one granddaughter-in-law, Debbie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Jones and the Rev. Ron Whitener officiating. Interment followed in the Anderson Cemetery in Adwolfe.
Bradley’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Clark
Sadie V. Clark, age 76, of Saltville, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Ms. Clark had been a resident of Valley Health Care Center, a member of the Main St. Christian Church, and a former cook at the Saltville Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Cora Sage Clark; two brothers, Lee Clark and Virgil Clark; and three sisters, Elizabeth Clark, Louise Clark and Virginia Clark.
Surviving are two aunts; one nephew; three nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 26, 11 a.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Cal Hultgren and Mr. Barry Loupe officiating. Burial will follow at the Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
