Cook
William Hillard Cook, age 70, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cook was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Wayne Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Edith H. Cook, Chilhowie; one daughter, Jill C. Brooks, Chilhowie; three sons, Randy Cook, Curtis Cook, both of Chilhowie, and Fred Cook, Marion; two sisters, Lucille C. Blevins, Roanoke, and Betty C. Hawks, Marion; one brother, Jimmy Cook, Chilhowie; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until service time. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Cregger
Casper Cregger, age 80, of Ceres, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cregger lived most of his life in Smyth County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Cregger.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Cregger, Harrisburg, N.C., and David Cregger, Marion; one sister, Clair Sullivan, Hemet, Calif.; four grandchildren, Danny, Jessica, Denise and Benjamin; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

McCready
Herbert Seldon "Cub" McCready, age 86, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. McCready was a member of the McCready United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia "Sis" McCready.
Surviving are two sisters, Nannie Nutter of Glade Spring, and Sammy Routh of Erwin, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Friday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Rose Cemetery Mausoleum in Glade Spring with the Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad, P.O. Drawer D, Saltville, VA 24370 or the Virginia Hospice Care, 308 Hickory Ave., Rural Retreat, VA 24368.

Norder
Donna Jo Norder, age 45, of Lakeland, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in an accident at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
Mrs. Norder was born in Marion on Aug. 25, 1954. She moved to Lakeland from Maryland four years ago. She was a retired lieutenant colonel reservist in the Air Force. She retired from the Air Force Reserves in April 1999. She was a life member of the U.S. Air Force Association, a life member of the Reserve Officer’s Association, and was a consultant with Booz-Allen-Hamilton Consulting Services.
She received two master’s degrees, the first from Golden Gate University, where she majored in public administration. The second was in national security studies from Georgetown University.
She is survived by her husband, Mark J. Norder of Lakeland, Fla.; her mother, Dorothy W. Smith, Lakeland, Fla.; her father, Joe Thomas Smith, Lake Toxaway, N.C.; and her goddaughter, Amanda Davis.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Colonel Cecil Richardson officiating. Entombment was in Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Lakeland, Fla.

Robinson
Wayne Hascue Robinson, age 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000.
Mr. Robinson was born Sept. 8, 1910 in Russell County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leonia Hall, and a son, Joe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Novada Skeens Robinson of Marion; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Lydia) Dean of Roanoke; one son and two daughters-in-law, Donald and Lois Robinson of Chilhowie, and Mrs. Joe (Jean) Robinson of Piney Flats, Tenn.; one stepson, S.I. Dye Jr. and wife Dottie of Kingsport, Tenn.; two brothers, Huston Robinson and Pete Robinson, both of Lebanon; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Joe Powers officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Snead
Carl Raymond Snead Sr., age 70, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at his home in Truro, Iowa.
Mr. Snead was born Aug. 24, 1929 in Saltville, the son of Dewey Snead and Sarah Sally Terry Snead. He was educated in Hayters Gap and Meadowview. On March 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Donna Lou Watkins in Abingdon and had two children.
Mr. Snead had been a Lookout in the Fire Towers for the U.S. Forestry Service until his retirement in 1962. He was a Sergeant 1st Class with the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He loved playing pool and was very proud of having served in the military service.
Mr. Snead was baptized in the Anderson Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene Snead; and a sister, Mabel Murdock.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Snead, Truro, Iowa; one son and fiancée, Carl Raymond Snead Jr. and Sherri Vanderflught, Truro, Iowa; one daughter, Jacklyn Snead, Bolingbrook, Ill.; three brothers, Charlie Snead and wife Marie, Thurn Snead and wife Bert, and Oliver Snead and wife Betty, all of Saltville; one sister-in-law, Georgia Mae Snead, Cleveland, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Wong, Bolingbrook, Ill; several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #7328 "Hardy Roberts."

Stiltner
Clarence (C.A.) Stiltner, age 70, of Bluff City, Tenn., formerly of Vansant, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at Wellmont Hospice Center in Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Stiltner was born in Buchanan County, the son of the late Hibert and Pinky Stiltner Endicott. He was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Mae Stiltner; one brother, Burt Benton Stiltner; and two sisters, June Brown and Lois Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene Taylor Stiltner; three sons, Rob Stiltner, Abingdon, Danny Stiltner, Glade Spring, and Benjamin Stiltner, Piney Flats, Tenn.; three daughters, Virginia McNew, Richmond, Shirley Jupino and Becky Petro, both of Chilhowie; three stepchildren, Sandra Stilwell, Lakeland, Fla., Bryan McGinnis, Charleston, S.C., and Debra Cornett, El Paso, Texas; several sisters and one brother; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Greenhills Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with the Rev. Billy Rosenbaum officiating.

Whisman
Lee Roy Whisman, age 78, died Jan. 15, 2000 in Orangeville Nursing and Rehab Center in Orangeville, Penn.
Mr. Whisman was born Sept. 6, 1921, the son of the late Marion and Virginia Whisman. He was a former truck driver and managed a Texaco Station for Hidlay Oil Company, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stout Tennesen Whisman, Berwick, Penn.; two stepchildren, Patricia Polk of Berwick, Penn., and Russell Tennesen of Fort Myers, Fla.; one sister, Catherine Peake of Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Pauline Whisman, Marion; eight granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Esther Baker, age 83, of Troutdale, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000 at the home of her daughter in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Baker, Konnarock; one daughter, Nancy Baker Blevins, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, Billy Baker, Norton, and Arthur Baker, Falls Church; five grandchildren: R.C. Jr., Eddie, and Philip Blevins, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Sarah Ann Baker Crawford, Sevierville, Tenn., and Brian Baker, Manassas; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, March 1, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Konnarock. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the church. Burial will follow in Laurel Cemetery.

Brenda R. Bear, age 52, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Bear was an employee of Smyth County Community Hospital and a friend to all.
She is survived by her husband, Billy Bear of Rural Retreat; two daughters and one son-in-law, Melissa and Michael Musser of Rural Retreat, and Stephanie McCleese of Austin, Texas; two stepsons and one daughter-in-law, Scott and Anita Bear and B.J. Bear, all of Rural Retreat; her mother, Daisy Riggins of Pulaski; her father, George Riggins of Newbern; two sisters, Joyce Brown of Dublin, and Linda Cox of Pulaski; one grandson, Garrett Musser.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Beck and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Conway
Russell Lee Conway, age 75, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mr. Conway was born in Owensboro, Ky., the son of the late Luther and Flora Cundiff Conway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II from 1943 to 1946.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Lee Conway.
Surviving are two sons, David Lee Conway of Staunton, and Jerry Lee Conway, of the home; two grandsons, Cliff Conway and Chris Conway; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, at 11 am. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jack King and Mr. Paul Lineberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Church of Christ or to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Bessie C. Doane, age 83, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000 at her home in Saltville.
Mrs. Doane was the widow of Robert C. Doane and was also preceded in death by a son, Jim Doane.
Surviving are a son, Roger Doane of Saltville; four daughters, Janie Tuell of Saltville, Hazel Tilson of Meadowview, Barbara Litcherson of New Jersey, and Betty Knorr of Maryland; two brothers, Sanders Call of Chilhowie, and Dewey Call of Glade Spring; four sisters, Blanche Call of Abingdon, Mildred "Sister" Fullen of Saltville, Jennie Frye of Chilhowie, and Mary Harris of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Valerie Doane of Saltville; sons-in-law, Bobby Tuell, Kelly Tilson and Jim Knorr.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 29, at 2 p.m. in Dr. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Walker officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
