Cregger
William Franklin "Billy" Cregger Jr., age 65, died Monday, March 13, 2000 at his home in Ceres.
Mr. Cregger was of the Baptist faith and farmed most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertie Cregger and a brother, James Andrew Cregger.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Geraldine C. "Dump" and Daniel Hendrick of Bluefield, W.Va., and Christina Nicole Cregger of Marion; one son, William David Cregger of Marion; one sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Lynwood Toms of Roanoke; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Alfred and Mary Cregger of Roanoke, and Lou Cregger of Marion; three grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, March 15, at 2 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Nebo.

Humphries
Dorothy Edna Humphries, age 90, died Sunday, March 12, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Humphries was born in Oswego, Tenn., to the late Rosa Huddleston and James Bowman. Along with her husband, the late Curtis Edwards, she was owner and operator of several restaurants throughout the southeast. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one stepson, A.C. Edwards, Illinois; three nieces, Mrs. James (Barbara) Shoun, Bristol, Mrs. Enoch (Norma) Senter, Clintwood, and Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) Blizzard, Blountville, Tenn.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 16, at 2 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol with the Rev. Danny Thompson officiating.

Reedy
William Ralph Reedy, age 74, of Troutdale, died Sunday, March 12, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Reedy was born July 3, 1925 in Troutdale, the son of the late James Claude and Jenny Norman Reedy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Parsons Reedy and his son, William Ralph Reedy Jr.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and roger Cornett, and Bobbie and Bobby Patton, all of Troutdale; two stepsons and a spouse, Dick and Sondra Sexton, Manassas, and Ray Sexton of Volney; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Sexton, Sugar Grove; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Edna Reedy, and Carol and Doc Odham, all of Marion, Mary Ross, Troutdale, Ruby Ore, Lynchburg, and Fannie and Avery Greer, Sugar Grove; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Helen Reedy, Lynchburg, and Roy and Ruth Reedy, Roanoke; a special friend, Violet French, Sugar Grove; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, March 15, at 2:30 p.m. in Troutdale Baptist Church with the Rev. George Russell and the Rev. Ken Riggins officiating. Interment will be in Troutdale Cemetery. Dorothy Ann Call, age 49, of Saltville, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald M. Call Jr., and William F. Call, both of Saltville; one daughter, Anita E. Call, Saltville; former husband and friend, Ronald Call Sr.; her mother, Agnes Osborne, Saltville; one brother, Bill Osborne, Georgia; three sisters, Bertha Thompson, Saltville, Virginia Ball and Rozion "Rosie" Tuggle, both of Georgia; one granddaughter, Aleah Danielle Call; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. E.D. Swartz and Mr. Barry Loupe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Frye
Wesley H. Frye of Portsmouth died Wednesday, March 15, 2000.
Mr. Frye was born July 30, 1926. He was a native of Saltville. He was the owner of Wes Frye Auto & Van Repair.
Surviving are three children, Brenda Frye and Charles Frye, both of Portsmouth, and Donna Davis, Windsor; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted today, March 18, at 11 a.m. in Biltmore Baptist Church in Portsmouth conducted by the Rev. Frye. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Hall
Winifred Hall, age 74, of Greenup, Ky., died Monday, March 13, 2000 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
Mrs. Hall was born July 4, 1925 in Marion, a daughter of the late Harry E. and Pricie Gass Hall. She was a member of House of Praise in Greenup.
Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by three daughters, Vivian Garred, Pricie Garred, and Ann Katherine Garred, and one brother, Harry Hall.
Survivors include five sons: William Garred of Marion, Joseph Garred, Freddie Garred and Eugene Garred, all of South Point, Ohio, and Allen Garred of Washington, D.C.; four daughters, Linda Garred, Clementine Garred, Cynthia Garred, all of Greenup, Ky., and Mrs. Charles (Alice) Jones of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Ann Jackson and Peggy Hayes Russell, both of Marion; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were held Thursday, March 16, in Greenup, Ky.

Hart
James Vaughn Hart, age 58, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Hart was born in Ashe County, N.C., and had lived most of his life in Smyth County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Brunswick with over 27 years of service. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 and also the American Legion Post.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vaughn Hart, and his stepfather, Ed Matheson.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherry Hart, Sugar Grove, Melissa Roberts and Greg Roberts, Marion, and Teresa Hardy and Jeff Hardy, Chilhowie; his mother, Reba Matheson, Marion; one sister, Susie Regen, Hewitt, Texas; two brothers, Jerry Hart, Chilhowie, and Bill Hart, Henson, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; special friend, Barbara Reed; first wife and friend, Betty Davidson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, at 2 p.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Johnson and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Linkous
Harry Abraham Linkous Jr., age 84, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Linkous was born in Belspring, the son of Harry and Nell Woods Linkous. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Linkous served in the United States Army. He was Assistant Superintendent of Production and Maintenance for Warner Robins Air Force Base for 22 years before retiring to Marion. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Macon Masonic Lodge No. 5.
Mr. Linkous was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Smith Linkous; and a sister, Margaret Northea McClun.
He is survived by two daughters, Harriett Hitchcock of Kitzingen, Germany, and Margaret Ann McIlwain of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Dr. Harry A. Linkous III of Macon, Ga.; one brother, Gordon Linkous of Marion; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, March 18, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Buddy Miller and the Rev. Mary K. Briggs officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery.

Merwede
Jerry D. "Cowboy" Merwede, age 58, of Saltville, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Merwede was a loving and caring husband and father. He worked as a mason for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Ann Merwede; four sons, Jerry Merwede, Roy Merwede, Jay Merwede, Scott Merwede, all of New Jersey; two daughters, Mrs. Ricky "Valerie" Church, Saltville, Amanda Merwede, New Jersey; his mother, Estell Bailey, Spokane, Wash.; one sister, Barbara Randall, Newport Richie, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cody Austin Church, Connor Blake Church, Amanda Merwede, Justin Merwede, Shea Merwede.
Graveside services were conducted Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. Benny Frye officiating.

Poston
Melvin A. Poston, age 78, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at Calico Rock, Ark.
Mr. Poston was born on Feb. 8, 1922 in Saltville. He was united in marriage to Irene Blevins on May 8, 1951 in Saltville, was a retired iron worker and a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 395.
Mr. Poston was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Poston; his parents, Grover and Martha DeBoard Poston; and one brother, John Poston.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and David Krieter, Debby and Rick Price, Chesterton, Ind., and Cathy and Bill Walters, Schererville, Ind.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marie Poston, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff and Sherry Poston, Pilot Point, Texas; two sisters, Irene Eastridge, Saltville, and Betty Hutton, Marion; two brothers, Billy Poston, Bristol, Tenn., and Ervin Poston, Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren: Brian, Chad and Matthew Krieter; Shannon, Kelli and Justin Price; Colleen and Kaitlyn Walters; Aaron, Cody, Sam and Chad Poston; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Hayley Krieter.
A memorial service will be conducted today, March 18, at 11 a.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with Ervin Poston officiating. Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Scott
Wilson W. Scott Jr., age 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and public servant, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
"Bill" Scott served as mayor of Marion for 18 years until he stepped down in 1992.
He was instrumental in the formation of the Marion Retail Merchants Association. He also served on the Marion Volunteer Fire Department and the Marion Rescue Squad.
Mr. Scott was a charter member of the Marion Lions Club, a member of the Marion Kiwanis Club for over 50 years and was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jean Mock Scott; his parents, Wilson W. Sr. and Lilly S. Scott; three brothers, James S. Scott, John M. Scott and J. Justin Scott; one sister, Martha Kingham.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis Patrick and Linda Scott of High Point, N.C., and Wilson Michael and Carol Scott of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Alpha J. Scott and Elizabeth R. Scott, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Kelly Frye of High Point, N.C., Stephanie Gallagher of Pittsburgh, Penn., Rich Scott of Raleigh, N.C., Berit Dabbs of Alexandria, and Tracy R. Scott of Marion; three step-grandchildren, Bryan Clontz of Rocky Mount, N.C., Caroline Kadis of Raleigh, N.C., and Emily Clontz of High Point, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Buddy Miller, the Rev. Mary K. Briggs and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Bowman
Bobby Ray Bowman, infant son of Bobby and Crystal Bowman of Saltville, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 in Johnson City Medical Center.
Surviving, besides his parents, are paternal grandparents, Bobby and Deborah Bowman of Saltville; maternal grandmother, Melinda Landis of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several great-grandparents; three aunts, Deborah Armstrong, Amanda Eastridge and Juanita Bowman, all of Saltville; several great-aunts and great-uncles; several cousins.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 18, at 1 pm. in the Mudfork Church of Christ in Mudfork with the Rev. Johnny Elmore officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
