Burchett
Wiley James Burchett, age 70, died Friday, March 17, 2000 in Bealeton.
He is survived by his wife, Della Mae Burchett of Gainesville; two daughters, Kimberly Burchett of Bealeton, and Justine Burchett of Gainesville; two sons, James Burchett of Fredericksburg, and Timothy Burchett of Haymarket; three sisters, Peggy Baldwin, Marion, Laura Booth, Chesapeake, Ohio and Elizabeth Rush of DeLand, Fla.; one brother, Bobby Burchett of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Baldwin officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery where full military rites were conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Ellison
Howard Jackson Ellison Jr., age 65, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at his home in Rural Retreat.
Mr. Ellison was born on Jan. 29, 1935 to the late Howard J. Sr. and Mabel Heldreth Ellison. He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. He was also an avid gardener and bass fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carolyn Ayers Ellison; one son and daughter-in-law, Howard J. III and Andrea H. Ellison, Pearisburg; one sister, Helen E. Bedwell, Rural Retreat; a brother and sister-in-law, James F. and Susan A. Ellison, Rural Retreat; his mother-in-law, Ethel D. Ayers, Wytheville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, L.B. (Pete) and Ethel A. Wright, Wytheville; a host of loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat with military graveside rites being conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667.

Hess
Carl Leonard Hess, age 60, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, March 18, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Hess was the son of Lena Bell Tuggle Hess and the late Lee Douglas Hess.
Surviving are his wife, Katie Juanita Warren Hess; two sons, Ricky L. Hess, Chilhowie, and Warren Lee Hess, Glade Spring; two daughters, Janet L. Anderson, Atkins, and Juanita Ann McVey, Lodi; his mother, Lena Bell Hess; three brothers, Lawrence R. Hess, Statesville, N.C., Willie L. Hess, Damascus, and Robert F. Hess, Chilhowie; six sisters, Florence Blevins, Virginia L. Hess and Carolyn D. Smith, all of Chilhowie, Margaret A. Granados, Chaperral, N. M., Eula F. Sandefur and Wanda M. Hess, both of Glade Spring; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m. in Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Lyles officiating. Burial was in the Bishop-Rush Creek Cemetery.

Hughes
James "Jim" Hughes, age 76, a resident of the Greendale Home for the Aged in Abingdon, died Saturday, March 18, 2000.
He was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Washington County.
Survivors include one sister, Sara Huffman, Kingsport, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, March 21, at 11 a.m. in the Henderson Family Cemetery with the Rev. Clark Powers and the Rev. Darvin Woodruff officiating.

Jones
Daisy Gay Tolbert Jones, age 81, died Friday, March 17, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Jones was the widow of Sanders H. Jones and a member of Mount Pleasant Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, Leland H. Jones.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Jones of Kingsport, Tenn., and Robert E. Jones of Chilhowie; a daughter, Martha Faye Hopkins of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sisters, Clemintine Haynes and Ruby Tolbert, both of Saltville; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 18, at 8 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Sunday, March 19, at 1 p.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Mary Aretta Rose Keiser, age 64, of Cottondale, Ala., died Friday, March 17, 2000 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Mrs. Keiser was born in Smyth County and had resided in Cottondale for 36 years.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth R. Rose of Marion; four sisters, Nellie Kathy Jones of Abingdon, Betty Lou Testerman, Linda Juanita Martin and Judy Mae Grace, all of Marion; two brothers, Ronnie Rose of Marion, and Denny Rose of Rural Retreat; two grandchildren, Megan Kendra Rose of Marion, and Alicia Rose Lyttle of Spring Lake, N.C.

Marilyn Spriggs Morris, age 93, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at Francis Marion Manor.
Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Morris, and her daughter, Charlotte Lee Morris. She was a member of Marion Church of God and a lifelong resident of Marion.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Happy Morris of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hutton of Baltimore, Md., and Erma Morris of Elizabethton, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services were held Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Round Hill Cemetery.

Richard W. Roberts, age 85, died Friday, March 17, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Roberts was the widower of Crystal Woods Roberts.
Surviving are two brothers, Thomas Roberts of Lynchburg, and Charles Roberts of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; three sisters, Nannie Ford of Marion, Edna Roberts of Columbus, Ohio, and Katherine Ford of Broadford; several nieces and nephews.

Virginia Collins Wassum, age 80, died Monday, March 20, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Wassum was the widow of Ralph P. Wassum.
She is survived by one daughter, Carole Wassum Rosenbaum, Marion; two grandsons, Charles Chandler Rosenbaum, Abingdon, and William Ryan Rosenbaum of Marion; one great-grandson, Chandler Pierson Rosenbaum; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Alan Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring. Wayne D. Wyatt, age 66, of Chilhowie, died Sunday, March 19, 2000 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Wyatt was a maintenance man retired from Brunswick and a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Fred and Hazel Powers Wyatt; and one brother, William Earl Wyatt.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Mae Barlow Wyatt, Chilhowie; two sons and two daughters, Gregory Wayne Wyatt and Michael V. Wyatt, both of Chilhowie, Phyllis W. Moberg of Charlottesville, and Tammy W. Campbell of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Heather Wyatt, Jesse and Adrianne Moberg, LeAnn and Robbie Campbell, and Shaylene Wyatt; two brothers, Roger Dean Wyatt of Marion, and Larry Wyatt of Chilhowie; one sister, Betty Jo Testerman of Chilhowie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial followed in Grosses Creek Cemetery.

Blanche Sturgill Jones, age 79, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, March 23, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Chilhowie Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Jones, Chilhowie; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Debbie Jones, Marion; three sisters, Pearl Heath, Marion, Ruth Wolfram, Bristol, and Dora Lee Russell, Salem; one brother, Jim Sturgill, Salem; a granddaughter, Ashley Jones; a grandson, Keith Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted today, March 25, at 2 p.m. at Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Herrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Grosses Creek Cemetery.

Opal S. Radar, age 73, died Thursday, March 23, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Emma Browning, Richmond; several nieces and nephews.

Tabor
Pauline Louise Hylton Tabor, age 73, died Monday, March 20, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
Mrs. Tabor was born in Maybeury, W.Va., the daughter of the late Harry and Cora Sheppard Hylton. She was a former resident of Pocahontas and had been a resident of Valley Health Care Center for a number of years.
She was the widow of Hansel Tabor and a member of the Pocahontas Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Madelyn Jennings, St. Paul, Hazel Richards, Bluewell, W.Va., Ethel Thurston, Princeton, W.Va., and Joyce Cole, Pocahontas; one brother, Bill Hylton, Pocahontas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 22, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
