Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

DeBusk
Willie E. DeBusk, age 84, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 at her home in Wideners Valley.
Mrs. DeBusk was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. She was the widow of Roy Preston DeBusk Sr., and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine DeBusk.
Surviving are one son, Roy Preston "Ronnie" DeBusk Jr., of Glade Spring; four daughters, Eileen Norris of Bristol, Tenn., Erma Pruitt of Abingdon, Phyllis Garrett of Huntsville, Ala., and Brenda Bryant of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; one brother, Hunter F. Widener of Marion; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 5, at 11 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Warren Wilson and the Rev. David Critcher officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Glade Spring. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 458, Damascus, VA 24236.

Hayden
The Rev. Samuel Gilbert Hayden Jr., age 60, of Meadowview, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Hayden was born in Saltville, a son of Lucille Hayden, and had resided in Richmond for 30 years before moving to Meadowview six years ago. He was an ordained minister and a retired Teamster.
Mr. Hayden was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Call Hayden; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Candy) Williams and Mrs. Robert (Sabrina) Williams, both of Midlothian; his mother, Lucille Hayden, Saltville; two brothers, Leo Hayden of Meadowview and Pat Hayden of Richmond; one sister, Cleo McCready of Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson, Joseph Williams; one granddaughter, Sarah Williams.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Briggs and the Rev. Polk Johnson officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bristol Dialysis Unit or to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, Md.

Montgomery
Louise R. Montgomery, age 77, of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., died Thursday, March 30, 2000 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lena Robertson; one son, Dr. W.H. Montgomery Jr.; a brother, Hugh E. Robertson; a sister, Johnnie Leah Robertson; and a brother-in-law, George W. Lawson.
She was a longstanding member of First United Methodist Church of Pigeon Forge and First United Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, Tenn. She and her husband of 58 years had lived and worked in Oak Ridge, Tenn., for 30 years before retiring to Pigeon Forge in 1978.
Mrs. Montgomery had worked at the Oak Ridge Credit Bureau, Reel and Slusser Publishing, Anderson County Schools and the Mother’s Day Out program at the First United Methodist Church of Sevierville, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, W. Howard Montgomery Sr., Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Betty M. and Dr. Harvey E. Sullivan III of Marion; five grandchildren, Carmen M. Montgomery, Andrew T. Montgomery, Will J. Montgomery, Harvey E. Sullivan IV, and Philip A. Sullivan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Lawson, Jessica and Ray Benson, and Emily and Hal Campbell; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sunday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in Shiloh Cemetery in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., with the Rev. Bob Tripp officiating.
Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

Null
Florence DeBord Tilson Null, age 83, widow of Archie Null, died Sunday, April 2, 2000 in Wythe County Community Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Crigger of Wytheville, and Helen Cox of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Robert Franklin Null of Marion, and Ronald Null of Painesville, Ohio; two sisters, Grace Goodpasture of Abingdon, and Elizabeth Hall of Washington, Ga.; two brothers, Harry Tilson of Manassas, and Ted Tilson of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; special friends, Edna Seymour, Josephine Wolfe, Bettie Turley and Virginia Ball.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Bryan Childress and the Rev. William T. Wing III officiating. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

O’Quinn
Joycelyn Ramona O’Quinn, age 68, of Glade Spring, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. O’Quinn was preceded in death by her husband, Fed Isaac O’Quinn.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Johnson, Marion, Brenda and Rodney Eller, Chilhowie, and Peggy O’Quinn, North Pole, Alaska; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sue O’Quinn, Abingdon; her mother, Lena Mae Wynegar, Chilhowie; four sisters, Belle Aistrop and Mildred Kestner, both of Glade Spring, Betty Latham, Bristol, Tenn., and Margaret Harkleroad, Bristol; five brothers, James Wynegar, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bart Wynegar, Abingdon, Dan Wynegar, Clinchburg, Joe Wynegar, Conyers, Ga., and Don Wynegar, Fairfax; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring.
Newberry Funeral Home in Chilhowie was in charge of arrangements.

Smothers
Clarence Thomas Smothers, age 96, died Friday, March 31, 2000 in Ridgefield Retirement Home.
He is survived by friends and residents of Ridgefield Retirement Home.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m. in Wassum Cemetery with the Rev. Marion Boggs officiating.
Barnett’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Spence
Margaret Edith "Tootle" Spence, age 75, of Abingdon, died Friday, March 31, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mrs. Spence was born in Saltville, lived most of her life in Meadowview and had been a resident of Abingdon for the past seven years. She was a member of Blackwell’s Chapel Union Church and was the widow of Walter Garnett Spence. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Blevins; two brothers, Henry Jackson Harris and Robert Archie Harris; and a brother-in-law, Robert Patrick.
Mrs. Spence was employed with Perdue Hardware for 23 years and with G and O Homecenter.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Hagy of Abingdon, and Anne Godlewski of Saltville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Polly and Edward Phipps and Doris Patrick, all of Saltville, Patsy and Jim Burgess of Chilhowie, and Elmer Blevins of Galax; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, April 3, at 2 p.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Con Henley officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Tibbs
Mallie Repass Tibbs, age 81, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at her home in Bastian.
Mrs. Tibbs was the daughter of the late Roger Arten Repass and Eula Kitts Repass. She was a retired U.S. Postal clerk with 23 years of service at Bastian, a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Life member of United Methodist Women, was a pianist at church since an early age and also taught piano lessons, a member of Federal Employees, Bland County Historical Society, Bland Senior Citizens, 39ers Club in Rocky Gap and Bastian Union Church Ladies Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband James L. Burke and her second husband, Ray R. Tibbs.
She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Arten and Jonan Repass of Ceres; half-brother and wife, Kenneth B. and Laurita Repass of Marion; half-sister and husband, Frieda R. and Daniel Hanshew of Ceres; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in the Bethany United Methodist Church in Ceres with the Rev. Larry Patton, the Rev. Dean Tibbs and the Rev. Randy Morris officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bland Rescue Squad, Bethany Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Bright
Raymond W. Bright, age 79, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Mary N. Bright of Sugar Grove; two sons, Billy Bright of Hawkinsville, Ga., and Jimmy Bright of Sugar Grove; three sisters, Nellie Freeman, Leveta Chambless and Violet, all of Arkansas; one brother, Richard Bright of Fort Valley, Ga.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Brother David Farmer, Brother Paul Vandyke, and Brother Paul White officiating.
Graveside services were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill where military rites were conducted by Casey-Short VFW Post 9640.
Seaver-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Parks
Wanda Sue Keyes Parks, age 46, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, April 4, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Parks was preceded in death by her father, Earnest Keyes, and a brother, Gerald Keyes.
She is survived by her husband, R.B. Parks of Sugar Grove; her mother, Ethel Keyes of Sugar Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sonny and Brenda Keyes of Alabama, Larry Keyes, Danny and Debbie Keyes, and Glenna Keyes, all of Sugar Grove; her mother-in-law, Betty Parks McGrady of Sugar Grove; a special niece, Pam "Sissy" Shirey of Sugar Grove; a special nephew, Carl Keyes of Sugar Grove; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Mary Parson of Sugar Grove.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Life Saving Crew, c/o Carol Choate, P.O. Box 108, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.

Wright
Shirley Phillips Wright, age 74, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her first husband, Clark J. Phillips. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was retired from Smyth County Community Hospital with over 30 years of service and was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #4667.
She is survived by her husband, Gray Wright of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Jean and George David Griffith of Chilhowie; one stepson, Douglas Wright of Covington; one sister, Bertha Worley of Bluefield; three grandchildren, Mark Charapich and wife Sarah, Angela Charapich, and Diane Cruey and husband Rick; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Mary Helen Hawkins.
Funeral services will be held today, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Miller and the Rev. E.B. Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Bowen
Jerri Scott Bowen, age 57, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at her home in Bland.
Mrs. Bowen was a well-known Wythe and Bland County Real Estate Agent with Crowgey-Bowen Realty.
Surviving are her husband, M.H. Bowen Jr., Eagle Oak Farm in Bland; two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Randy Roahrig, Princeton, W.Va., and Tiffany J’Nan Le Bowen, Boston, Mass.; one son and daughter-in-law, Meek Hoge and Kathryn Bowen II of Bland; one sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Wayne Sutherland, Wytheville; one brother and sister-in-law, John Bill and Sue Scott, Richmond; her parents, Vida and Elmer Foglesong, Ceres; three grandchildren, Jeremy Bowen, Nicole Bowen, both of Bland, and Travis Roahrig, Pulaski; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 10, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bland.
