Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Harper
George Washington Harper Jr., age 65, died Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the Maple Grove Retirement Home in Chilhowie.
Mr. Harper was a native of the North Holston area of Saltville. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Harper Sr. and Mary Roberta Sawyers Harper; and three brothers.
Surviving are seven sisters: Minnie Brown, Marion, Dora Parker, Buffalo, N.Y., Amanda McAllister, Abingdon, Mary Jane Harper, Grayson County, Hattie Sigaon, Chilhowie, Lillian Bernice Matthews, Los Angeles, Calif., and Jenal Patton, Manassas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 16, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. James Patton officiating. Burial followed in the Harper Family Cemetery.

Heath
Naomi Gollehon Heath, age 86, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at her home in Chilhowie.
Mrs. Heath was the widow of Marvin C. Heath and was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Ray Heath.
Surviving are five sons, Everette Heath, Montana, James D. Heath, Colorado, Porter Heath and David Heath, both of Chilhowie, and Darrell Heath, Lexington, N.C.; two daughters, Patsy Wagg, Chilhowie, and Peggy Burkett, Vinton; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles E. Blevins, the Rev. Gary Brown and the Rev. Lewis Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the St. James Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight in Williams Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Murray
Bessie Shew Murray, age 85, died Sunday, April 16, 2000 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brenda Lee Murray, and a daughter-in-law, Sigrid F. Murray.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter F. Murray of Marion; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lee F. Murray of Pisgah Forest, N.C., and Curtis and Joan Murray of Farmville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Noah Smith, Glade Spring, Janice and Charles Long, Rockledge, Fla., and Nancy and Dave Field of Milton, Wisc.; one brother and sister-in-law, C.L. and Joy Shew of Palm Springs, Fla.; one sister, Gwen Coyle of Thurmont, Md.; four grandchildren, Sheila Miller and husband Steve of Marion, Debbie Murray of Farmville, Cynthia Murray of Nashville, Tenn., Marie Field and Jana Field, both of Milton, Wisc.; three great-grandchildren, Stacy, Brian and Allison Miller.
Funeral services will be held today, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Alan Gray officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Phillips
Virginia Rouse Phillips, age 85, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at the Hospice Unit of the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mrs. Phillips was born on Feb. 23, 1915, at Pullman, Wash., to Ida Lucebrink and David F. Rouse, pioneer residents of the Washington State University community.
Mrs. Phillips attended Washington State University where she met her husband, W. Calvin Phillips. They were married in 1934.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Cecil O. (Susan) Calhoun Jr., two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George W. (Sally) Anderson III, Quicksburg; four grandchildren, Sigrid Anderson of Quicksburg, Jason Anderson of Richmond, Courtney Calhoun Blackmar and Scott Phillip Calhoun, both of Columbus, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Phillip Owen Blackmar, Mary Helen Blackmar and Helen Constance Calhoun, all of Columbus, Ga.
Graveside services were held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Greenwood with interment in the church cemetery.

Shaw
Pearl Taylor Shaw, age 83, of Chilhowie, died Sunday, April 16, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Shaw was born in Taylor’s Valley and was the widow of Roby Lee Shaw. She was a member of the River Bluff Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie Shaw and Edgar Casady.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marie Casaday, Charlottesville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma and Larry Rutherford, Bristol, Tenn., Sandy and Carl Troxel and Donna and Clarence Hamm, all of Chilhowie; one sister, Ruth Bradley, Chilhowie; one brother, Cecil Taylor, Kokomo, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 19, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Cullop and the Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs Cemetery in Abingdon.

Frye
Stewart M. Frye, age 75, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000 at his home in Saltville.
Mr. Frye was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the owner and operator of D & S Grocery in Saltville.
Survivors include his wife, Daphne G. Frye; two sons, Roger L. "P-Nut" Frye and Jerry F. "Byrd" Frye, both of Saltville; one brother, Frank Frye, Saltville; five sisters, Patsy McCready, Elizabeth Bays, Olivene Cardwell, all of Saltville, Pauline Bowers, Ragland, W.Va., and Louise Hagy, Daleville; five grandchildren, Kristi Sumpter, Kevin Frye, Melanie Frye, Haylee Frye, and Jake VanHoy; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle French and the Rev. Mark Baumgardner officiating. Burial followed at the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Greer
Leonard Isaac Greer, age 74, of Mouth of Wilson, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
Mr. Greer was born Sept. 27, 1925 at Grayson County to the late Franklin Monroe Greer and Ida Lee Anderson Greer. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Gore Greer, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bobby Delp, Independence; one son, Larry Greer, Sparta, N.C.; three grandchildren, Andy Delp, Karen Delp and Megan Delp; one great-granddaughter, Leighann Brooke Delp; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Bryant Greer, Manassas, and Gayle and Penny Greer, Glade Spring; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Russell and the Rev. Fred E. Jennings officiating. Interment was in Pine Branch Cemetery in Mouth of Wilson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Independence Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 607, Independence, VA 24348.

Lamie
Nannie Belle Lamie, age 92, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Surviving are one sister, Hallie Smith, Wytheville; one niece and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Nannie Lamie will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2000 (today) at Ridgedale Cemetery.

Musser
Dora Adams Musser, age 86, widow of Wiley Thomas Musser, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Jim Kirk of Christiansburg, and Judy and Robert Barbre of Marion; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Otto Musser of Radford, Bill and Patsy Musser of Marion, and David and Jeanie Musser of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Elmer Adams of Manassas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial was in West Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Hospice of Smyth County, P.O. Box 843, Marion, VA 24354.

Poston
Lena JoAnn "Sissy" Poston, age 56, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a daughter of the late Charlie and Kate Bordwine. She was formerly employed with Golan Manufacturing and, most recently, was employed by Emory & Henry College Bookstore. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex McCracken; and a sister, Rosemary B. Mills.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Elbert Ray Poston Sr.; a son, Elbert Ray "Pete" Poston Jr. of Deland, Fla.; two daughters, Debbie P. Stallard of Abingdon and Sherry P. McCracken of Meadowview; four brothers, Charles Bordwine of Meadowview, James Bordwine of Honaker, John Bordwine of Chilhowie and Ed Bordwine of Saltville; a sister, Vanessa B. Cannon of Glade Spring; three grandsons, Matthew Stallard, Tyler Stallard and Christopher McCracken; sons-in-law Pat Stallard and David McCracken; and daughter-in-law, Evelyn Bernd; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were conducted Friday, April 21, 2000, at 8 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, officiated by The Revs. Bill Green and Sammy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Meadowview Fire Department.

Williams
Kenneth Neal Williams, age 74, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a life member of Virginia PTA, a past recipient of the Woodmen of the World Award and a member of McCabe Lodge (Odd Fellows) No. 56. He retired after 43 years of service with Washington County as a bus driver, where he received numerous safe driving awards.
He was of the Baptist faith and attended Fellowship Baptist Church of Meadowview.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Henderson Williams; a daughter, Ann W. Evans of Abingdon; three sons, K. Dale Williams, Tom F. Williams and Jerry A. Williams, all of Meadowview; a sister, Lynn F. Miller of Meadowview, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 21, 2000, at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Baptist Church in Meadowview by Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The Rev. Wayne Parsons officiated. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2000 (today) at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Friends and family will assemble at 10:30 a.m. for procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Meadowview Fire Department, 1315 Meadowview Square, Meadowview, VA. 29361, or the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Suite 521, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.

Anderson
Verna Cornett Anderson, age 80, formerly of Marion, died Monday, April 24, 2000 at her home in Lynchburg.
Mrs. Anderson was born June 30, 1919 in Flatridge, the daughter of the late John Estil Cornette and the late Alice Izora Haga Cornette. She retired in 1983 from Southwestern State Hospital and was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert Estil Anderson.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Barnett of Lynchburg, and Shirley DuVal of Virginia Beach; one sister, Sue Bonham of Sugar Grove; two brothers, Glenn Cornette of New Albany, Ind., and Dean Cornette of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Joy Underhill and husband David of Monument, Colo., Jean Worley and husband Billy of Lynchburg, and Judith Seifres and husband Rex of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Gethsemane Baptist Church in Marion with the Rev. Pat Gilbert officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Seaver-Brown Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Inglewood Baptist Church, 4830 Old Boonsboro Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24503.
