Timmons
Callie Mayre Timmons, age 77, died Sunday, July 9, 2000 at her home in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Mrs. Timmons was born May 16, 1923 in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Mabel Sheaff Bonham. She retired in 1985 from Westinghouse in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. She was a member of Rock Bridge Baptist Church in Grayson County and was a World War II veteran having served in the Women’s Army Corp. in Virginia.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Timmons; her twin sister, Hallie Bonham; one great-granddaughter, Bridget Sue Young; and one brother, Wayne Bonham.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert W. (Darlene Sue) Dible, Rising Sun, Ohio, Mrs. Dan (Lois M.) Southward, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Mrs. Frank (Colleen) Ulery, Marion, Ohio; one son, Jack L. Timmons, Santa Barbara, Calif.; two sisters, Hessie Nelson, Troutdale, and Alice Poole, Fries; three brothers, Paul Bonham, Winston-Salem, N.C., John Bonham, Westminster, S.C., and Victor Bonham, Marion; one sister-in-law, Hazel Bonham; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13, at 11 a.m. in Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, Ohio with Pastor Ted Bonham officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Military graveside rites will be conducted. The family will receive friends tonight from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, c/o Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, Ohio.

Blevins
Harold Danny Blevins, age 48, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 in the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn., after a 19 year battle with kidney disease.
Mr. Blevins was a lifelong resident of Smyth County, a member of Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church and also attended Russell’s Chapel. He was a member of the 1970 State championship football team in Chilhowie and attended Virginia Highlands Community College and Emory & Henry College.
Mr. Blevins was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked as the Sporting Goods Manager at Walmart.
Mr. Blevins was preceded in death by his father, Harold Preston Blevins.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Janie Blevins; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Brandon Eddy, Marion; his mother, Jeanette K. Blevins, Chilhowie; his grandmother, Lennie H. Keesee, Chilhowie; his brother, Ronnie Wayne Blevins, Chilhowie; mother and father-in-law, Katherine and Richard Williams, Sugar Grove; special friends, Herman and Pam Cress and Diana and Gerald Powers; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 14, at 2 p.m. in Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Interment followed in the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial donations may be made to the Smyth County Dialysis Emergency Fund, 1154 Snider St., Marion, VA 24354.

Gross
James Ronald "Ronnie" Gross, age 36, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his father, Marion Marvin "Bud" Gross of Hampton; two brothers, John Tyler Gross of Hampton, and Marion Marvin Gross III of Atkins; five sisters, Susie Lutress, Tomica Lutress, Jessica Lutress, Thea Heathcock, Rotanna Gross; two daughters, Victoria Gross and Jennifer Gross; a special friend, Regina Thomas; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Friday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in Middle Fork Cemetery with the Rev. E.B. Ford officiating.
Barnett’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Haga
Phyllis Sue Haga, age 49, died May 5, 2000 in St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.
Miss Haga was a 1968 graduate of Galva High School and a 1970 graduate of Black Hawk East College. She received her teacher’s degree from Illinois State University in 1973.
Miss Haga was a secretary at the Galva Foundry and the John H. Best Company in Galva. She served as counselor with the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) in Kewanee from 1977 to 1990 when she retired due to health problems.
Miss Haga was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by an infant sister and her grandparents, R.N. and Iretta Doss Martin and F.L. and Anna Denny Haga, all of Chilhowie.
Surviving are her parents, Ralph Sr. and Ferne Martin Haga of Galva, Ill.; five brothers, Ralph Haga Jr., David Haga, Keith Haga and Dennis Haga, all of Galva, Ill., and Jim Haga of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Anna) Derr, Denise "Debbie" Haga, both of Galva, Ill., and Mrs. Mike (Dian) Clark of Abingdon, Ill.; eight nephews; five nieces; two great-nieces; one great-nephew.
Funeral services were held May 8 at 11 a.m. at Rux Funeral Home Chapel in Galva, Ill., with the Rev. John Wayne Martin of Chilhowie officiating. Musicians were Mable Martin and daughters, Peggy Roberts, Helen Bryant and Jean Bryant. Burial was in Galva Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Martin Cemetery Fund, c/o Grace A. Martin, 38000 Loves Mill Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319.

Porter
Virginia Echols Porter, age 89, of Chilhowie, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Porter was a retired teacher of 36 years at the Riverside Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sanders Porter. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Echols and one brother, Neal Echols, both of Chilhowie.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Sturgill of Chilhowie; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ellis Porter of Chilhowie, and Mike and Lola Porter of Flatridge; one granddaughter, Debra Sturgill of Chilhowie; one twin brother and sister-in-law, Vance and Viola Echols of Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Sarah Brown of Marion.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Baptist Church in Chilhowie with the Rev. Armand Jalbert officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Williams Funeral Home in Chilhowie from 7 to 9 tonight, July 15. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Riverside Baptist Church, 127 Redstone Road, Chilhowie, VA 24319.

Sheets
Chessie Mae Sheets, age 76, died Monday, July 10, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sheets was the widow of James Charlie Sheets Sr., and was preceded in death by one son, James Charlie Sheets Jr.
Survivors include eight daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Thomas Gibson, Cumberland Gap, Tenn., Margaret and Walter Blevins, Carolyn and Roy Russell, Joyce and J.R. Sexton, Sherri and Jason Nutter, all of Marion, Kathy and David Carrico, Martha and Jerry Creasy, all of Chilhowie, and Vickie and Lee Yates of Meadowview; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Resa Sheets of Rural Retreat, and Jimmy and Betty Sheets of Atkins; five half sisters; two half brothers; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 13, at 11 a.m. in Barnett’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Creasy officiating. Burial followed in South Fork Cemetery.

Sheffey
William Foster Sheffey, age 80, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 in Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn.
Mr. Sheffey was a custodian at the Bank of Marion and a security guard at Blue Ridge Job Corp for many years. He was a member of the Marion VFW Post 4667 and a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army.
Mr. Sheffey was a beloved people person and appreciated all the kindness he received from the community.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Ardenia Cecil Sheffey of Cleveland, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Phyllis Sheffey of Marion; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joyce and William Briggs, Martha Jane Sheffey, Deloris and Allan Lunkins, all of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Roslyn Graham of Newark, Del., and Pauline Anderson of Marion; nine grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 16, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with burial in Round Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Stinson
Richard Brantley Stinson Sr., age 54, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000 at his home in Mebane, N.C.
Mr. Stinson was born in Clovis, N. Mex., the son of Clinard Brantley Stinson and the late Bertha Jane Reynolds Stinson. He was a retired mechanic for Southern Bell and was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Crigger Stinson, of the home; two sons, Richard Dean Stinson, Hillsborough, N.C., and David Lee Stinson, of the home; his father, Clinard B. Stinson, Marion; one sister, Kathy Davis, Hillsborough, N.C.; one granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 14, at 2 p.m. in McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane, N.C., with the Rev. Charles Fleshman, associate pastor of First Baptist Church of Mebane, officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Talley
Charles F. "Pug" Talley Jr., age 57, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 at his home in Saltville.
Mr. Talley was retired from H.S. Williams after 33 years.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine G. Talley, Saltville; one son, Charles F. Talley III, Saltville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Frank Stanley, Glade Spring, and Rosetta and Michael Beverly, Chilhowie; his mother, Vivian H. Talley, Saltville; one brother, Fred Talley, Elkhart, Ind.; one sister, Dorothy King, Lebanon; four grandchildren, Heather Rose Stanley, M.J. Beverly, Austin Stanley, and Dalton Beverly; several nieces and nephews including special niece, Vickie Talley and special nephew, Jeff Talley.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 14, at 8 pm. at the Valley View Assembly of God with the Rev. Bill Delp, the Rev. James Robbins, and the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted today, July 15, at 11 a.m. at the Henderson Family Cemetery in Poor Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution s may be made to Virginia’s Hospice Care, 308 Hickory Ave., Rural Retreat, VA 24368.

Blevins
Katherine A. Blevins, age 83, of Saltville, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Blevins was the widow of Eli Blevins.
Surviving are two sons, Cecil Blevins and Billy Blevins, both of Saltville; two daughters, Edith Thomas and Mary Pauley, both of Saltville; four sisters, Stella Harry and Nellie Cregger, both of Tazewell, Mary Harry of North Carolina and Martha Holmes of Richlands; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Nellie Stillwell.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 17, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Totten officiating. Burial was in Elizabeth Cemetery.

Combs
Sandra Michelle Bridgeman Combs, age 30, died Monday, July 17, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Combs of Rural Retreat; one son, Robert Thomas of Rural Retreat; her parents, Jimmy and Toni Bridgeman of Sugar Grove; one sister, Cindy Combs of Marion; one brother, Gerald Bridgeman of Marion; her grandmother, Alice Hutton of Atkins; her grandfather, Walter J. Bridgeman of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Zachary B. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Wassum Cemetery in Atkins. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Crabtree
Glenn Holmes Crabtree, age 78, died Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Crabtree was a retired coal miner and farmer and lived most of his life in the Rich Valley Community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Chatham Hill First Church of God in Rich Valley.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Beatrice Sanders Crabtree; one son, Michael Crabtree, Marion; one daughter, Mrs. Ronnie "Glenna" Bullins, Marion; two sisters, Bertha Carter of Rich Valley and Lessie McGoldrick of Albuquerque, N. M.; one brother, Fred Crabtree, Rich Valley; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. tonight, July 19, at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Shupe and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 tonight, just prior to the service.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Ridgedale Cemetery.
