Patricia "Pat" Dix, age 61, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 at her home in Atkins.
Mrs. Dix was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and had many special bowling friends whom she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Russell Dix, Atkins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Jim Armstrong, Atkins, and Terri and Mike Harris, Christiansburg; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Dix, Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Robert Lawrence, Marion; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, bob and Ann Dix of Marion; six grandchildren, Russ Dix, Matt Dix and Jeff Dix, all of Bowling Green, Ky., Alesia Crewey and Makinsey Armstrong, both of Atkins, and Michael Harris, Christiansburg; a special niece, Karla Starkey of Sevierville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow officiating. Entombment followed in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. Lomans
Alvin Berkley Lomans Sr., age 62, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Bristol Regional Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Lomans was a member of First Baptist Church of Chilhowie where he served as a trustee. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and retired after 31 years of service with Greever’s Clinic in Chilhowie as maintenance technician.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Odessa Lomans; one son, Alvin Berkley Lomans Jr., Chilhowie; three daughters, Teresa L. Soumare of New Market, Tenn., Jennifer L. Tucker of Bristol, and Mary L. Walton of Knoxville, Tenn.; a twin brother, Edwin Garland Lomans Sr., Chilhowie; another brother, Beverly U. Lomans of Homestead, Penn.; two sisters, Evelyn L. Polk of Chilhowie, and Betty L. Roberts of Front Royal; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Lomans; three sons-in-law, Chelkh Soumare, Charles Lee Tucker, and Calvin Walton; eight grandchildren, Jermaine Berkley Tucker, Alvin Berkley Lomans III, Dakota Berkley Lomans, William Alexander Lomans, Gorel Alvin Soumare, Eyezek Lee Tucker, Jennifer Lee Tucker and Binetou Soumare.
Funeral services will be conducted today, July 19, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Chilhowie with the Rev. C.G. Slaughter officiating assisted by the Rev. Danny Belcher Sr., the Rev. Gary Montgomery and the Rev. Willie Austin. Burial will be in Chilhowie Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.

Reeves
Lottie D. Reeves, age 87, died Friday, July 14, 2000 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Everett C. Reeves.
Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Bozant of Goose Creek, S.C.; four sons, Alfred Reeves, Herbert L. Reeves, Charlie "Carson" Reeves and Joe Dale Reeves, all of Marion; three sisters, Masie Jennings, Greenville, Tenn., Etta Jane DeBord, Abingdon, and Virdie Dempsey of Marion; one brother, Lewis Dempsey of Chilhowie; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Eller and the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Burial followed in Rowland Creek Cemetery.

Crouse
Roy C. Crouse, age 75, died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at his home in Marion.
Mr. Crouse was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Lee "Bud" Crouse and Ray Crouse. He had worked as a body man at Holston Motor Company for many years, then operated his own shop for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Crouse of Marion; five sisters, Bonnie Hinchey of Meadowview, Betty Trivette and Joan Sproles, both of Bristol, Nancy McCallister of Atkins, and Lila Brooks of Marion; seven brothers, Paul Crouse of Marion, Earl Crouse, Edward Crouse, Harold Crouse, Buford Crouse and Robert Crouse, all of Chilhowie, and Larry Crouse of Sugar Grove; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, July 22, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Neal Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Jackson
Ira Mike Jackson, age 57, of Glade Spring, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Mae Holmes; three sons, Wade Jackson of Marion, Nick Jackson of Rich Valley, and Michael Jackson of Saltville; one daughter, Teresa Johnson of Glade Spring; one brother, Harmon Jackson of Meadowview; four sisters, Janie Taylor and Marie Snead, both of Meadowview, Lola Brown of Chilhowie, and Bert Dancy of Glade Spring; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

Martha Jane Roberts, age 59, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Smyth County, Mrs. Roberts was the daughter of the late Mack and Mary Heath Eller.
Surviving are her stepmother, Stella Eller Riley of Bristol; two sisters, Linda Bernice Slagle and Ida Carol Hutchins, both of Bristol, Tenn.; one stepbrother, Paul Haga of Bristol; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Alvin Tolbert of Marion.
Graveside services were conducted Friday, July 21, at 2 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery in Alvarado with the Rev. Mark Baumgardner officiating.

Wyatt
Racheal Ann Wyatt, age 47, died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at her home in Marion.
Miss Wyatt was employed by Capital Graphics in Lanham, Md.
She is survived by her parents, Raleigh and Louise Wyatt of Marion; one daughter, Kimberly Wyatt of Marion; three grandchildren, Michelle Lang, Nicole Malley and William Ellis; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Donald Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Betty Gray Young, age 63, died Thursday, July 20, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jettie Anderson Young, and her father, Oscar M. Young.
She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Cletia and Glenn Moore and Anna L. Young, all of Marion; two aunts, Wave Anderson and Minnie Berry; nieces and nephews, Brenda Moore Boone, Glen and Gerri Moore, Mark and Patty Moore, all of Marion, Bobby and Kathy Sullivan of Troutdale, Bradley and Cindy Moore of Repton, Ala.; 11 great- nieces and nephews; seven great-great-nieces and nephews.

Cahill
Carl M. "Bill" Cahill, age 78, of Saltville, died Saturday, July 22, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Mr. Cahill was a retired employee of the Town of Saltville and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are five sisters, Frances McGhee, Saltville, Louise Peake, Nancy Tuggle, both of Marion, Nellie Heath, Rural Retreat, and Doris Frye, Meadowview; two brothers, Joe Cahill, Saltville, and Allen Cahill, Glade Spring; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 24, at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Kestner officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery with the Saltville VFW Post 7328 conducting military rites.

Grace Lorraine Palmer Christian, age 87, died Friday, July 21, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
Mrs. Christian was the widow of Charlie Howard Christian.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty C. Peake, Atkins, and Sue C. Dolinger, Marion; one son, Dennis E. Christian, Salem; two brothers, Luther Palmer, Virginia Beach, and Bill Palmer, DeLand, Fla.; two sons-in-law, James Kenneth Peake, Atkins, and Earl Dolinger, Marion; one daughter-in-law, Norma R. Christian, Salem; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 23, at 2 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial was in the Middle Fork Cemetery.

John Gary Randall, age 59, of Sugar Grove, died Monday, July 24, 2000 in Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
He is survived by one brother, Albert S. Randall of Gambrills, Md.; one niece; one nephew; several cousins including Christina and Donald Mattingly of Sugar Grove with whom he made his home.
Private funeral and burial will be held in Silver Springs, Md. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

James D. "Jimmy" Shortt, age 65, of Saltville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Shortt was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Hattie Shortt; two brothers, Eugene Arthur Shortt and John Henry Shortt Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Shortt; one son, James D. "Bo" Shortt Jr., Chocowinity, N.C.; one daughter, Lisa Marie Lyon, Harrisburg, Ill.; one brother, Joe Dan Shortt, Georgia; one sister, Sue Ellen "Sis" Parker, Ulyee, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brooke, Madison, Blake, Lydia, Chloe.

Raymond Dunford, age 45, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997 in his home in Marion.
Mr. Dunford was a lifelong resident of Smyth County. He was a member of the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church and an employee of Brunswick and Marion Composites for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Farmer Dunford, Marion; one daughter, Cherrie Lynn Dunford, Marion; his mother, Maxine Hutton Dunford Perkins, Marion; two brothers, Dennis Dunford, Astoria, N.Y., and Frank Dunford, Marion; five sisters: Elizabeth Haga, Peggy Snider, Barbara Testerman and Patsy Walters, all of Marion, and Audrey Moncrief, Texas; one granddaughter, Christy Lynn Pierce, Marion.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Statzer officiating. Interment will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
