Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Osborne
Robert L. Osborne, age 70, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 1997 at his home in Saltville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Havens) Osborne.
Survivors include three sons, Howard Osborne and Willis Osborne, both of Saltville, and Charles Osborne, Chilhowie; four grandchildren; one great-grandson.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Surber and the Rev. Curt Havens officiating. Burial was in the Ridgedale Cemetery.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Powers
Hazel Taylor Powers, age 89, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Powers was a native of Ashe County, N.C., and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She was the widow of Vaughn J. Powers and a member of Parker's Chapel Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Bud (Ethel B.) Ashby, Chilhowie; six sons and daughters-in-law: Howard L. and June Richardson, Earl G. and Irene Powers, Rev. Joe D. and Norma Powers, Jessie Blain and Wanda Powers, and V.J. and Molly Powers, all of Marion, and Ronnie F. Powers, Chilhowie; a special son-in-law, Bud Ashby; two sisters, Blanche Stamper, Chilhowie, Grace Martin, Chicago, Ill.; 37 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. in Parker's Chapel, Dry Fork, with the Rev. Chester Hensley and the Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery.
Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Scott
Azel "A" Scott, age 75, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a resident of the Hayter's Gap Community where he operated the A.E. Scott Grocery for many years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Kennedy Scott; one daughter, Mitzi J. Burkett, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Sunshine Scott and Clyde Scott, both of Abingdon, and Bascom Scott, Palmyra; two sisters, Cleo Mays and Shirley Hagy, both of Abingdon; one granddaughter, Chelsey Burkett, Mesa, Ariz.
Graveside services will be conducted today, Jan. 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Moses Salyer officiating. Family and friends may assemble at the funeral home at 2 p.m. for a procession to the cemetery.

Smith
Thomas Taylor Smith, age 83, formerly of Marion, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997 in the South Fulton Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Thomas lived most of his life in the Marion area before moving to Atlanta for the past year and a half. He was a graduate of the Bluefield State College. He worked as a brickmason in the Marion and Wytheville areas having been a part of the construction of many buildings in the downtown area.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Smith, Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Sandra Moody and Tomasina Barnes, both of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Karen Barnes and Shelli Barnes, both of Atlanta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, David Campbell-Moody, Troy Campbell-Moody, and Korey Campbell-Moody; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill E. Hinton and the Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in the Round Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Snavely
William Luther (Bill) Snavely, age 78, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mr. Snavely was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Frank and Lena Baumgardner Snavely. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat where he served as a councilman and trustee, a past member of the Wythe County Rescue Squad, a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a shop foreman at new car dealerships in Wythe and Smyth counties for over 50 years.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Hurt Snavely of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Teresa Snavely of Marion; two granddaughters, Kara Snavely and Ashley Snavely; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Ray Dossett, Morehead City, N.C.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Robert and Caroline Hurt, Smithfield; four step-grandsons, Keith and Todd Dossett, Darden and Robby Hurt; one step-great-granddaughter, Megan Dossett.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry M. Bollinger, the Rev. Norman Wilhoit, and Dr. Charles C. Burnett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 478, Rural Retreat, VA 24368 or the charity of their choice.

Sparks
George H. Sparks of White Post, died Jan. 3, 1997, at a hospital in Winchester. He was born in Chatham Hill, the son of Nanny and T.S. Sparks Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Cloe Thweatt Sparks; one son, Charles Sparks; one stepson, one stepdaughter; four sisters: Polly Sparks Hillmuth, Marion, Mary Sparks Allison, Chilhowie, Nell Sparks Edwards, and Oma Jean Sparks Adkins, both of Winchester; one brother, F.L. Sparks, White Post.
Funeral services and burial were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Winchester.
Jones Funeral Home in Winchester was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon
Glenna Pugh Vernon, age 83, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Vernon was born Oct. 19, 1913 in Grayson County. She attended Johnston Memorial Nursing School and graduated in 1935. She served the public as a registered nurse for 46 years. She was the widow of C.H. Vernon.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Sam and Gail Vernon of Marion; one brother, B. Jack Pugh, Lynchburg; two grandsons, David and Neal; one granddaughter, Anna; one step-grandchild, Chad.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carol Ferguson officiating. Interment followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations made to the Marion Life Saving Crew or the Laurel Springs Church.

Woods
Louise T. Woods, age 84, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997 in Francis Marion Manor. She was the widow of Wade Woods.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John R. (Lois) King, Marion; one sister, Mabel Overbay; a special nephew, Dale Alan Miller; a special niece, Mrs. Earl K. (Elouise L.) Miller; three grandchildren, Tonda Gail King, John E. King, Tanja Scaggs; nine great-grandchildren: Tiffany Tomlin, Michael Robert Fisher, Tiara Fisher, Zachary King, Eric Lyle King, Courtney Scaggs, John Scaggs, Jared Scaggs, and Michael Deel; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment was in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

Henderson
Nina Johnson Henderson, age 88, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of John Bill Henderson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James P. and Cora Counts Johnson of Saltville; one son, John Michael Henderson; two sisters, Lelia Taylor and Beulah Sword; two brothers, Houston Johnson and G.D. Johnson.
Survivors include six sons: James William Henderson, Newport News, Thomas Gerald Henderson, Boise, Idaho, Charles Houston Henderson, Milwaukee, Wisc., Rudy Wayne Henderson Sr., Saltville, Garland Leon Henderson and Danny Ray Henderson, both of Marion; four daughters: Jean Henderson Morse, Westminster, Calif.; Sheila Henderson DeBord, Saltville; Linda Henderson McElroy, Honesdale, Penn.; and Diane Henderson Allison, LaPorte, Texas; one sister, Venida Johnson Wyatt, Rocky Gap; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Benny Frye and the Rev. Bobby Surber officiating. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Logan
Harmon W. "Jack" Logan, age 84, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County.
Mr. Logan was a former employee of the Glade Spring Vance Co. for about 20 years and had been a Grade A Dairy farmer for 30 years. He was a member of the Byars Cobbs United Methodist Church and had served as an officer in the Men's Bible Class.
He was a charter member of the Glade Spring Lions Club while it was in Glade Spring, a charter member of the Glade Spring Fire Department and a member of the Interstate Bowl.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Grubb Logan; one niece, Sue Eastman King, Richmond; two nephews, Curtis Logan, Pulaski, and Cecil Logan, near Washington D.C.
Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Graham officiating. Committal services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in Knollkreg Memorial Park.

Mason
Lloyd Hill Mason, age 82, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Martin Mason.
Mr. Mason was a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church, Chilhowie, a veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 and a member of the Chilhowie Mason Lodge #250 A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include one brother, Monroe "Bun" Mason, Chilhowie; one sister, Mary Keller, Forest Hill, Md.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in Mountain View Cemetery in Chilhowie with the Rev. R.J. Cullop and the Rev. Lloyd L. Sheets officiating. Full military honors were conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667.

O'Quinn
Fed Isaac O'Quinn, age 72, of Glade Spring, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Glade Spring Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce W. O'Quinn, Glade Spring; three daughters, Kathy Johnson, Marion, Brenda Eller, Chilhowie, and Peggy O'Quinn, North Pole, Alaska; one son, Charles O'Quinn, Marion; five sisters: Edna Mutter, Saltville, Bonnie Puckett, Greenville, Tenn., Ethel Cross and Georgia Snead, both of Cleveland, Tenn., and Lorene Mutter, Pearisburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Blazer and the Rev. Roger O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Glade Spring Baptist Church Building Fund.

Orme
Okie Evans Orme, age 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 at her home in Marion.
She is survived by four daughters: Lorena Miller of Ennice, N.C., Mary Virginia Bockelman of Glendale, Ariz., Katherine Doane of Ceres, and Bessie Tilson of Marion; six sons: Thomas Evans of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Douglas Evans of Saltville; Sammy Evans and Otis Evans, both of Marion; Arnold Evans and Marvin Evans, both of Rich Valley; 30 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Tim Boyette and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside United Methodist Church Cemetery.
