DiMaggio
Joseph J. DiMaggio, DDS, died Feb. 4, 1997 in Florida.
Dr. DiMaggio had a dental office in Rochester, N.Y., for 30 years. In recent years he retired to Jupiter, Fla. He belonged to the Dental Society of New York. He received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and the University of Dental School, Memphis, Tenn.
Dr. DiMaggio was married to the former Patricia J. Dixon, daughter of Jay and Pauline Dixon of Grayson County and spent time in the Grant community of Grayson County.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law: Nancy Parrinello, Boca, Fla.; Linda and Sam Herne, and Victoria and Albert Pelusio, all of Rochester, N.Y.; Jo Ann and Sean St. John, Charlotte, N.C.; and Patricia DiMaggio, Detroit, Mich.; one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Kate Abel DiMaggio; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Carmen DiMaggio, Boca, Fla.; three sisters and brother-in-law: Millie Iannone, Baltimore, Md., Rose Dean, Houston, Texas, and Gloria and Hugh Butcher, Gatlinburg, Tenn.; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Cameron Wolfe, a nephew C.J. Wolfe, all of Marion; several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was held Feb. 8 at St. Joseph's Church, Penfield, N.Y., and entombment was in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Rochester, N.Y.

Lee
Clarence F. Lee Sr., age 69, of Washington D.C., died Monday, March 3, 1997 in Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Md.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Lee; one brother, Ellis Lee, and one sister, Frances Boyden.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Murphy Lee, Washington D.C.; three daughters, Sheryl A. Witherspoon and Tracy A. Lee, both of Washington D.C., and Michele A. Cheek of Hyattsville, Md.; one son, Clarence F. Lee Jr. of Washington D.C.; his mother, Cleo Lee of Sugar Grove; three brothers, Robert, Carl and James Lee, all of Sugar Grove; four sisters, Nancy Purefoy, Shirley Gaston and Lorraine Jackson, all of Marion, and Emily Collins, Plainsville, N.J.; eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at 11 a.m. at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in Washington D.C., with interment in Quantico National Memorial Park.

Richardson
Mary Campbell Cook Richardson, age 79, of Greenville, Del., died Monday, March 3, 1997 at her home.
She was born in Marion on Jan. 12, 1918 to the late George F. and Elsie Campbell Cook. She attended Marion Junior College and Hollands College. She was involved in community and church activities having been a deacon and trustee at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Chapter E of the PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Graham M. Richardson; three daughters, Janet C. Sky of Lewisville, Texas, Elizabeth R. Troutman of York, Penn., and Mary G. Richardson of Gwynedd Valley, Penn.; four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held today, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church in Centerville, Del. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Road, Centerville, Del. 19807; Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Del. 19810, or your favorite charity.

Widner
Dorsey Preston Widner, age 67, of Marion, formerly of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997 in the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
He was born in Washington County, the son of the late Robert and Ellie Widner. He was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atkins and was a retired auto mechanic with Meredith's Garage in Rural Retreat.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Blevins Widner, of the home; four stepdaughters: Donna Blevins, Chantilly, Teresa Meek, Marion, Rhoda Thomas, Fort Chiswell, and Mary Nickolson, Wauchula, Fla.; four stepsons: Freddy Blevins, Johnny Blevins, Bobby Blevins, and Jimmy Blevins, all of Marion; three sisters, Liney Peake, Ella Kegley, and Fronie Reeves, all of Marion; two brothers, James (Jim) Widner, Rural Retreat, and Bobby Widner, Marion; 17 step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat

Williams
James Lewis "Mr. J.L." Williams, age 88, of Matthews, N.C., died Wednesday, March 5, 1997 in Presbyterian Hospital.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 26, 1908 in Travelers Rest, S.C., the son of the late Hosea Holmes Williams and Vintie (Golden) Williams. He was a graduate of North Greenville Academy. He received a full scholarship to play football at the University of South Carolina. Following a knee injury, Mr. Williams transferred to North Carolina State College in Raleigh where he graduated in June 1932 with honors as the first and perhaps the only student ever to receive two Bachelors Degrees on the same day; one in Civil Engineering and one in Architectural Engineering.
Mr. Williams spent the War years with the U.S. War Department Corps of Engineers in the "Manhattan District" producing the Atomic Bomb that successfully contributed to the conclusion of World War II.
After the war, he established a successful Architectural-Engineering practice in Marion and remained here until 1958 when he moved the practice to Matthews, N.C., where he was joined by his three sons. Mr. Williams was baptized in Marion by Dr. Primativo Delgado and was a member of First Baptist Church in Matthews, N.C., at the time of his death.
Mr. Williams was a registered Engineer and a registered Architect in eight southeastern states during his active business years. He was a Fellow in the American Registered Architects; a member of the American Institute of Architects; Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards; Certified by the National Council of State Boards of Engineering Examiners. He was a York Rite Mason and a Shriner (Kazim Temple).
He is survived by his wife, Clara Williams; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Jane Williams, and Frank Williams, all of Matthews, N.C., and Bill and Barbara Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters and son-in-law, Susan Galpin of Huntsville, Ala., and Katy Peacock and husband George of Garner, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted today, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the mausoleum at Forest Lawn East with the Rev. Ron Prevatte officiating and the Rev. Brad Sallee assisting. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Matthews, P.O. Box 248, Matthews, N.C.

Faine
Charles E. Faine, of Mason, Ohio, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.
Mr. Faine served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. He was a plant manager for Brunswick Corp. and vice president of operations for Textron/Randall Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Avanelle Spicer Faine; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Randall Sale; two sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sharon Faine, and Richard Faine; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Sherman Smith, Ann and Joe Baker, Joyce and Daryl Lust, and Virginia and Gary Murray; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at the Shorten & Ryan Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or the Heart Association.

Roger Lee Greear, age 72, of Sugar Grove, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 in Old Hickory, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil Greear of Sugar Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Greg Fitzpatrick of Coral Springs, Fla., and Gail and David Brinegar of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy Greear of Lakeworth, Fla., and Ric and Mavis Greear of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at the Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial followed in Ridge Lawn Cemetery.

Pamela Denise Holmes, age 23, of Saltville, died Monday, March 10, 1997 at her mother's home in Saltville. She was a member of Reach Out for Christ Church.
Survivors include her husband, Edward D. "Eddie" Holmes, Saltville; one son, Christopher Daniel "Bubba" Holmes, of the home; her parents, Paul and Barbara Holmes, Saltville; her maternal grandmother, Flora "Bug" Keith, Saltville; two brothers, Patrick Holmes and Payton Holmes, both of Saltville; two sisters, Paula Holmes, Glade Spring, and Krystal Cannon, Saltville.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in the Cardwell Town Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Keith and the Rev. Charles Keith officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Family Cemetery.

Paul B. "Fondie" Johnson Sr., age 70, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at his home in Damascus.
Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Damascus and was a retired employee from the Damascus Hosiery Mill. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred L. Johnson and a brother, James L. Johnson. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Ernestine C. Johnson; one daughter, Teresa Johnson Wilson, Damascus; one son, Paul B. Johnson Jr., Clarksville, Tenn.; his mother, Minnie R. Johnson, Damascus; the mother of his children, Esther Johnson White, Seven Mile Ford; one sister, Margaret Lewis, Damascus; two brothers, Jack Johnson and Howard Johnson, both of Damascus; six stepchildren: Harry Rouse, Wideners Valley, Earl Morphew, Chilhowie, Earnest Morphew, Charlotte, N.C., Judy Coalson Maier, Banner Elk, N.C., Lee Morphew and Larry Coalson, both of Damascus; three grandchildren, Andrea Danielle Wilson, Christy Mae Johnson and Chad Frederick Johnson; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Cullop officiating. Committal service and interment were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus.

Maude Elizabeth Jonas Jones, age 92, of Annandale, formerly of Cripple Creek, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Delores G. Ferguson of Annandale, and Audrey Pearson of Eastern, Md.; three sons, Cloyd O. Jones Jr., Manassas, Clayton Jones of Del Ray, Fla., and Douglas E. Jones of Annandale; two sisters, Lucille Goad, and Edith Stuart, both of Fries; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Cripple Creek. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

Winnie Brewer Powers, age 90, widow of A.R. Powers, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by six daughters: Pearl Johnson of Chilhowie, Betty Creasy of Marion, Lucille Reed and Shelby Jean Powers, both of Killeen, Texas, Carol Creasy of Glade Spring, and Judy Aiken of Lithonia, Ga.; two sons, Wayne Powers of Jenkin Jones, W.Va., and Donald Powers of Texas; one sister, Frances Jones of Chilhowie.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Creasy officiating. Burial was in Grosses Creek Cemetery in Chilhowie.

Tibbs
Curtis Ray Tibbs, age 82, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at his home in the Groseclose community of Rural Retreat.
Mr. Tibbs was a retired employee of the General Shale Corp. and a member of the Groseclose First Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lillian Smith Tibbs, and one son, David Lee Tibbs.
He is survived by three daughters, Ila Jean Pickle, Rural Retreat, Linda Armstrong, Marion, and Lori Hayes, Crockett; two sons, Danny Tibbs, Rocky Gap, and Curtis Tibbs, Atkins; three sisters, Ruth Tibbs, Marion, Mary Faine, Damascus, and Dora Lee Woods, Atkins; two brothers, James Armstrong, Atkins, and Claude Tibbs, Marion; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Watson Sr., and the Rev. Thomas Bunting officiating. Wade Herbert Blackburn, 85, died Thursday, March 20, 1997 in Newton, N.C., following a long illness.
He was born Feb. 2, 1912 the son of the late David Walter and Eloise Blackburn of Newton, N.C. He lived in Smyth County for a number of years where he worked as a house painter.
He is survived by his wife, Ardeen Teaters Blackburn, Newton, N.C.; four sons: Carmie Eugene Blackburn, Rural Retreat; Claude David Blackburn, Chilhowie; Charles Thomas Blackburn, Newton, N.C.; and William Wade Blackburn, Taylorsville, N.C.; two sisters, Ruth Combs and Virginia Guthrie, both of Newton, N.C.; one brother, Joe Blackburn, Newton, N.C.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, March 22, at 2 p.m. in Drum Funeral Home in Newton, N.C.
