Mildred Crotts
Mildred Owens Crotts, 60, of 874 Gaither Road, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center emergency room, after four months of declining health.
Born June 7, 1938, in Radford, she was the daughter of Wiley Ora Owens and Tilda Owens Hedge.
She was married
to Thomas Walter Crotts, who survives.
She lived in Danville since 1972 and worked for Dan River Inc. for seven years. She was a member of Trinity Church of God on Dula Street.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Brenda May, Peggy Riley and Linda Poythress, all of Danville; one son, Larry Riley of Danville; three sisters, Rosie Krantz of Bedford, Lucille Mooney of Radford and Judy Newton of Riner; four brothers, Junior Owens of Huddleston, Samuel Owens of Gretna, and Willie Owens and Paul Owens, both of Hurt; three grandchildren; and one foster daughter, Kimberly Davis.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas V. Hayton officiating. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 874 Gaither Road.
Gaynelle Hey
Gaynelle Sours Hey, 63, formerly of 177 Virginia Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at the Health South Medical Center in Richmond.
Born April 17, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Bernard Sours and Gertrude Inman Sours.
She spent most of her life in Danville and attended First Christian Church. She was employed by the Virginia Department of Probation and Parole in secretarial work.
Survivors include one daughter, Lynda G. "Lynn" Hey of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Arthur "Art" W. Hey III of Richmond; two brothers, Clinton Sours and Eugene Sours, both of Danville; three sisters, Mildred Collins of Danville, Sara Reynolds of Lynchburg, and Helen Brodner of Richmond; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one brother, James B. Sours.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of her sister, Mildred Collins, at 1166 Burton Drive.
Dean Lamphere
CHATHAM - Pastor Dean A. Lamphere, 57, of 193 Safe Haven Road, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1941 in Springfield, Vt., he was the son of Hyland Roosevelt Lamphere and Bernice Oley Lamphere.
He was the founding pastor of the Open Bible Baptist Church.
He was married
to Sharon Ebelt Lamphere, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Pastor Deano E. Lamphere of Nashville, Mich., and Pastor Todd M. Lamphere of Apopka, Fla.; two sisters, Marjorie Bartley and Denise Smith, both of N. Springfield, Vt.; two brothers, Bardley Morgan of Springfield, Vt., and Ernest Lamphere of N. Springfield, Vt.; and six grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Ervin H. Lamphere.
A funeral will be held 3 p.m. today at Open Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Deano E. Lamphere and Pastor Todd M. Lamphere officiating. Interment
will be in Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Kevin Logan
ALTAVISTA - Kevin Logan, 22, of 1204 Franklin Ave., and formerly of 1841 Mill Stream Road, Gretna, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Jan. 10, 1976, in Lynchburg, he was the son of James Logan Jr. and Cathline Dickerson Logan.
He last worked at Sunshine Cleaners in Altavista, and was a member of Miracle Revival Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents of Gretna, survivors include two sons, Kevon Logan of Gretna and Kelan Logan of Altavista; one daughter, Keona Logan of Altavista; three brothers, James Tony Logan, Jay Logan and Marcus Logan, all of Gretna; paternal grandmother, Delma Logan of Lynchburg; and paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Irby of Hurt.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Staunton Baptist Church in Long Island with Dr. P.A. Medley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his parents at 1841 Millstream Road, and at the residence of Nicole Cook, at 1204 Franklin Ave., Altavista.

Charles Newby Sr.
Charles "Pete" Newby Sr., 78, of 426 Oak Forest Circle, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one month of declining health.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Danville, he was the son of Robert Newby and May Watson Newby.
He was married
to Mary Surratt, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. He retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of Longview Friends Church and a veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by one son, Charles Ray Newby Jr.; one brother, Clarence Newby; and a sister, Lois Robertson.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Diane Newcomb, also of the residence; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Taylor and the Rev. Bob Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence at 426 Oak Forest Circle in the Mount Hermon community.
Dawne Norris
Dawne Branscome Norris, 34, of Danville, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 15, 1964, in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of Charlie M. Branscome Sr. and Jean Satterfield Branscome.
She was married
to Irvin T. Norris, who survives.
She was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Charlie Mattison Branscome Jr.
In addition to her husband of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Jennifer D. Emerson and Virginia Mae Norris, both of Danville; a son, John David Emerson of Danville; one sister, Nicki B. Granger of Halifax; and one brother, Jason E. Branscome of Roxboro, N.C.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church cemetery in Turbeville with the Rev. Clay Knick officiating.

Elsie Parcell
MARTINSVILLE - Elsie Austin Parcell, 73, of 1120 Douglas Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in The Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County.
Born April 25, 1925, in Patrick County, she was the daughter of Albert Green Austin and Rosa Lee Boyd Austin.
She was married
to Manford Amburn, who predeceased her. She was later married
to Paul L. Parcell, who survives.
She was retired from Piedmont Vendors.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include four daughters, Bonnie P. Thompson and Barbara P. Shively, both of Martinsville, Joan A. Martin of Fieldale and Joyce P. Walsh of Blairs; one son, Richard M. Amburn of Martinsville; one sister, Margaret McAlexander of Fieldale; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Houston officiating. Interment
will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

Charles Saunders Jr.
Charles "Chuck" Darnell Saunders Jr., 36, of 212 Clark St., died Thursday evening, Dec. 31, 1998, at his residence.
Born Feb. 5, 1963, in Danville, he was a son of the late Charles D. Saunders and Brenda Marshall Saunders Loftis, who survives.
He worked at Intertape as a towmotor operator. He was a member of Westover Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include his stepfather, Gilbert Loftis Jr. of the residence; two sons, Jonathan Saunders and Zachery Saunders, both of Danville; a daughter, Tiffany Nicole Saunders of Danville; a brother, Randolph Greg Saunders of Harrison, Ohio; two stepbrothers, Sammy Loftis of Danville and Scotty Loftis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a stepsister, Donna Pruitt of Danville; and his maternal grandfather, Randolph Marshall of Danville.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Westover Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Barber and the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Hampton Davis
HALIFAX - Deacon Hampton Lee Davis, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg.
He was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Halifax County.
He was married
to Mary Coles Davis, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Halifax, survivors include three sons, Hampton Davis Jr. and Kevin Davis, both of Halifax, and Gary Davis of Lynchburg; two sisters, Eleanor Clark of Newark, N.J. and Arlene Hamlett of Nathalie; two brothers, Charles Davis and John Davis of Nathalie; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ellis Creek Baptist Church, Nathalie, with the Rev. Johnnie Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
