Frances W. Divens, 50, 105 Pleasant View Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 18, 1948, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Earnest Straiter and Mary Conley Straiter.
She was married
to Alvin Divens, who survives.
She was employed as a nurse's aide at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her mother, and her husband of Martinsville, survivors include two daughters, Latonya West and Lekevia West, both of Danville; and one son, Kevin West of New York City.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bibleway Worldwide Cathedral with the Bishop Lawerence Campbell officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Anna Graves Ferguson
Anna Graves Ferguson, age 68, of 841 Kentuck Road, Danville, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 24, 1930 in Danville, she was the daughter of Howard and Sallie Beck Graves. For many years, she was employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Percy E. Ferguson, of the residence; two daughters, Cheryle D. Ferguson of South Boston and Renee Valentine of Reidsville, NC; two sisters, Sallie L. Glaise and Nannie G. Edwards, both of Danville; one grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 at Camp Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Toomer officiating. Interment
will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Mary Gauldin
CALLANDS - Mary Rebecca Marlow Gauldin. 82, of 410 Robinhood Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 25, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of William Marlow and Mary Giles Marlow.
She was a member of County Line Christian Church and a member of the County Line Christian Church Ladies Care Group.
On Dec. 26, 1934, she was married
to Arthur James Gauldin, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith G. Chattin of Danville; one son, Morris J. Gauldin of Danville; three sisters, Eva Atkins, Callie Wells and Alice Marlow, all of Callands; one brother, Hassell Marlow of Callands; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Edna Louise Gauldin; one sister, Elsie Gauldin; and three brothers, Harvey Marlow, H.L. Marlow and Henry Marlow.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at County Line Christian Church with the Rev. Dean Ashby, the Rev. J.D. Hunt III, and the Rev. Louis Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the church and at other times at the residence of her daughter, 506 Bermuda Road, Danville.

Larry Gravett
The Rev. Larry W. Gravett, 55, of 258 Angie Road, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his residence after a decline in health.
Born Sept. 16, 1943, in Danville, he was the son of Johnnie Andrew Gravett Sr. and Mary Ann Elizabeth Elliott Gravett.
He worked at Schewel Furniture Co. for 15 years and most recently was pastor of Christian Heritage Church in Blairs.
On Nov. 6, 1967, he was married
to Mary Lee Fortner Gravett, who survives.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy G. Arnn and Mary Ann G. Morris.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Larry W. Gravett Jr. of the residence; two daughters, Michelle Lee and April Dawn Gravett, both of the residence; one brother, Johnnie A. Gravett Jr., of Sebastian, Fla.; and five sisters, Naomi G. Byrd, Lois G. Smith, Jeannette G. Cassada and Sylvia G. Dalton, all of Danville, and Betty G. Farmer of Manassas.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Christian Heritage Church with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Gardner and the Rev. John Meadows officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Elizabeth Mackiewicz
Elizabeth B. Mackiewicz, 88, formerly of 125 Girard St., died Friday morning, Jan. 1, 1999, at Elder Care Nursing Home, Rocky Mount.
She was born Dec. 3, 1910, in Poland.
She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a governess in child care until her retirement.
Survivors include one son, Aleksander Mackiewicz of Danville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchilden.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with Father David McGuire officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of her son, 189 Mount Hermon Lane.
Charles Newby Sr.
Charles "Pete" Newby Sr., 78, of 426 Oak Forest Circle, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one month of declining health.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Danville, he was the son of Robert Newby and May Watson Newby.
He was married
to Mary Surratt, who survives.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area, where he was employed by Dan River Inc. He retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of Longview Friends Church and a veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by one son, Charles Ray Newby Jr.; one brother, Clarence Newby; and a sister, Lois Robertson.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Diane Newcomb, also of the residence; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Taylor and the Rev. Bob Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 325.

F. Garnett Yeatts
VERNON HILL - Frank Garnett Yeatts Sr., 91, of 3293 Henrys Mills Road, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born Oct. 18, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William B. Yeatts and Bartha Elizabeth Walton Yeatts.
A retired farmer, he lived his entire life in the Pickway Community. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.
On March 17, 1950, he was married
to Margaret H. Yeatts, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Vernon Hill, survivors include three daughters, Betty Jane Dickinson of Danville, Kaye Y. Thurston of Grapevine, Texas; and Penny Y. Thornton of Oak Ridge, N.C.; two sons, Frank G. Yeatts, Jr. of Danville and Alvin L. Yeatts of Keeling; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Frances Yeatts.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Hermon Absher and the Rev. Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

George Lynch, Jr.
RINGGOLD - George William Lynch, Jr., 75, of 2160 Ferguson Road, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, after several months of declining health while in Duke Medical Center for the past five days.
Born May 15, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of George William Lynch Sr. and Annie Hall Lynch.
He was married
Dec. 18, 1943, to Catherine Barber Lynch, who survives.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County. He had retired from Pickeral Security Services where he worked as a guard. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of American Legion Post 325.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, George W. Lynch III of Ringgold and Bruce Lynch of Keeling; two daughters Ann L. Dix of Pelham, N.C. and Brenda L. McClanahan of Danville; one sister, Louise L. Zimmerman of Danville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Tony Wayne Lynch.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
