Elizabeth Mackiewicz
Elizabeth B. Mackiewicz, 88, formerly of 125 Girard St., died Friday morning, Jan. 1, 1999, at Elder Care Nursing Home, Rocky Mount.
She was born Dec. 3, 1910, in Poland.
She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a governess in child care until her retirement.
Survivors include one son, Aleksander Mackiewicz of Danville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchilden.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Highland Burial Park with Father David McGuire officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 189 Mount Hermon Lane.
Robert Mason Sr.
PHOENIX - Dr. Robert P. (Bob) Mason Sr., 85, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, after several months of declining health.
He was born Aug. 3, 1913.
He was married
56 years to Doris McCormick Mason, formerly of Danville, who survives.
He had lived in Phoenix where he practiced until his retirement. In 1937, he played second base for the former Danville Leafs baseball team.
In addition to his wife of Phoenix, survivors include two sons, Robert P. (Bob) Mason Jr. and William Mason, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held in Pheonix.
Charles McDuffie
Charles Adam McDuffie, 50, of 723 Beauregard St., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug, 6, 1948, he was the son of Adam McDuffie and Katherine Davis McDuffie.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served in Vietnam. He was a construction worker at Warrco Corp. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his father of Danville, survivors include one brother, Berkley McDuffie of Danville; one sister, Josie M. Jeffries of Danville; one daughter, Sharlavette Harper of Durham, N.C., and one son, Darrell R. Harper of Danville.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at L. H. Brooks and Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Haywood Smith officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends noon-8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at 128 Spruce St.
Dollie McGuire
RICHMOND - Dollie C. McGuire, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999.
She was married
to Bernard McGuire, who survives.
She was a member of the National Court Reporters Association and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Jordan T. McGuire; and one sister, Louise Emory.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Bliley Funeral Homes Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Burial will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.

Suzanne Spurrier
A memorial service celebrating the life of Suzanne F. Spurrier will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the College Church of Christ in Searcy, Ark.
Miss Spurrier, director of the Brackett Library at Harding University, died Dec. 23. She had been employed at Harding for 23 years.
Born Dec. 21, 1947, she was the daughter of William and Golda Price Spurrier of Zanesville, Ohio.
She was a member of the College Church of Christ, Associated Women for Harding, both the American and Arkansas Associations of University Librarians and the Arkansas Association of University Women.
She founded SISTERS, a sharing-oriented computer network for women. She was a charter member of Networthy Investment Group. In addition, she was a Bible class teacher, hospice volunteer and an officer in Harding Business Women.
Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Grace and John Steil of Sutherlin, Va; two nephews, Bill Steil of Danville and Dana Steil of Cabot, Ark.
In keeping with Miss Spurrier's wishes, the family has requested that donations be made to the Suzanne F. Spurrier Library Special Projects Endowment Fund at Harding University.
Thomas Walthall
Thomas Morris Walthall, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Salem where he had been a patient since last June.
Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Gladys, he was the son of Robert Fulton Walthall and Lillian Clements Walthall. He spent most of his life in the Lynchburg area where he was employed by Burris Lumber Company as a sawyer. He was of the Bapist faith.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Morris Walthall Jr. of Bassett; and one daughter, Cynthia W. Simmons of Danville; and ten grandchildren.

Clarence Wright
DRY FORK - Clarence A. Wright, 85, of Riverside Health Care Center, formerly of 14201 Mount Cross Road, died Monday morning, Jan. 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 18, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Martin Wright and Nannie Martin Wright.
He was married
Jan. 14, 1950, to Mary Ann Riddle Wright, who predeceased him Dec. 5, 1996.
He spent most of his life in Henry and Pittsylvania counties where he was a retired farmer. He was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn W. Barton of Martinsville and Betty W. Custer of Danville; two sons, Leon A. Wright of Dry Fork and Michael A. Wright of Danville; two sisters, Mary Payne of Rustburg and Maude Holley of Callands; two brothers Andrew Wright of Martinsville and Cooper Wright of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at County Line Christian Church with Dean Ashby, Minister, and J.D. Hunt III, Minister, officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church and at other times at the residence of his daughter Betty Custer, 893 Mount View Road.

F. Garnett Yeatts
VERNON HILL - Frank Garnett Yeatts Sr., 91, of 3293 Henrys Mill Road, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at his residence.
Born Oct. 18, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William B. Yates and Martha Elizabeth Walton Yates.
A retired farmer, he lived his entire life in the Pickway Community. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.
On March 17, 1950, he was married
to Margaret H. Yeatts, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Vernon Hill, survivors include three daughters, Betty Jane Dickinson of Danville, Kaye Y. Thurston of Grapevine, Texas; and Penny Y. Thornton of Oak Ridge, N.C.; two sons, Frank G. Yeatts, Jr. of Danville and Alvin L. Yeatts of Keeling; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Frances Yeatts.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Hermon Absher and the Rev. Kyle Flora officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

John Stephens
John Linwood Stephens, 72, of 5468 Old Richmond Road, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born April 30, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Claude Stephens and Lelia Banks Stephens.
He was married
to Hattie Stephens, who survives.
He was employed by U.S. Gypsum Corp.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter Inez Stephens Crawley of Midlothian; four sons, John Stephens, Howard Stephens and Randolph Stephens, all of Danville, and Elvis Stephens of Martinsville; six sisters, Ollie Barksdale, Alice Bowe, Elnora Carter, Odaris Clark, Lois Tabb and Dorothy Minter, all of Danville; and one brother, Herman Stephens of Blairs.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Triumph Baptist Church with the Rev. H.G. McGhee officiating.
Burial will be in church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Beverly Dodson
Beverly B. Dodson, 81, of 2581 Old Richmond Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at his residence after two months of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Edward Dodson and Ethel Farthing Dodson.
He was married
Oct. 19, 1940, to Annie Whitlow Dodson, who survives.
He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County. He retired from Durham Hoisery with more than 30 years of service as a mechanic. He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 127.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Rachael D. Slaughter of Danville; one brother, Charlie L. Dodson of Danville; three sisters, Rose D. Lester and Dorothy D. Milam, both of Keeling, and Helen D. Roberts of Danville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Henry and the Rev. Michael Burnette officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
