Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Thomas Walthall

Thomas Morris Walthall, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Veterans Hospital in Salem where he had been a patient since June.

Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Gladys, he was the son of Robert Fulton Walthall and Lillian Clements Walthall.

He spent most of his life in the Lynchburg area where he was employed by Burris Lumber Company as a sawyer. He was of the Bapist faith.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Morris Walthall Jr. of Bassett; one daughter, Cynthia W. Simmons of Danville; and 10 grandchildren.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Wright

DRY FORK - Clarence A. Wright, 85, of Riverside Health Care Center, formerly of 14201 Mount Cross Road, died Monday morning, Jan. 4, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.

Born Dec. 18, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Martin Wright and Nannie Martin Wright.

He was married Jan. 14, 1950, to Mary Ann Riddle Wright, who died Dec. 5, 1996.

He spent most of his life in Henry and Pittsylvania counties, where he was a retired farmer.

He was a member of County Line Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathryn W. Barton of Martinsville and Betty W. Custer of Danville; two sons, Leon A. Wright of Dry Fork and Michael A. Wright of Danville; two sisters, Mary Payne of Rustburg and Maude Holley of Callands; two brothers, Andrew Wright of Martinsville and Cooper Wright of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at County Line Christian Church with the Rev. Dean Ashby and the Rev. J.D. Hunt III officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the church and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Betty Custer, 893 Mount View Road.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Beverly Dodson

Beverly B. Dodson, 81, of 2581 Old Richmond Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at his residence after two months of declining health.

Born Nov. 4, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Edward Dodson and Ethel Farthing Dodson.

He was married Oct. 19, 1940, to Annie Whitlow Dodson, who survives.

He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County. He retired from Durham Hosiery with more than 30 years of service as a mechanic. He was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 127.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Rachael D. Slaughter of Danville; one brother, Charlie L. Dodson of Danville; three sisters, Rose D. Lester and Dorothy D. Milam, both of Keeling, and Helen D. Roberts of Danville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. David Henry and the Rev. Michael Burnette officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Emily G. Grant

VIRGINIA BEACH - Emily Granger Grant, 91, of the 300 block of Lillian Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999.

Mrs. Grant was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was the widow of Sidney O. Grant.

She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, the Women's Missionary Union and Indian River Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cummings, and her husband Billy Cummings of Spring Lake, N.C.; three sons, Oliver E. Grant of Parksley, L.G. "Sid" Grant and his wife, Shirley Grant of Danville, Claude B. Grant and his wife Diane Grant of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Mary Robertson of Florida and Martha Holland of Norfolk; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, with the Rev. Paul D. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Chesapeake.

Frances Jones

DRY FORK - Frances G. Jones, 66, of 3380 Sandy Creek Road, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C., after a short period of declining health.

Born June 15, 1932, in Rocky Mount, she was the daughter of Ovi Turner and Katherine Turner.

She was married Jan. 30, 1956, to Don C. Jones, who survives.

She had lived in Dry Fork for 20 years and was a member of Whitmell Christian Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include two sons, Dennis Mathis of Orlando, Fla., and Steve Jones of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Brown of the home and Melissa Sewell of Portsmouth; two sisters, Florence Geng of Holiday, Fla., and Ethel Eure of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Whitmell Christian Church with the Rev. Andrew Oakes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Nina Pryor

Nina Britton Pryor, 92, of 137 Lipton Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after two years of declining health.

Born March 23, 1906, in Guys Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of Reynolds Britton and Jenny Beuchat Britton.

She was married to Emerson J. Pryor, who died in 1974.

She had lived in Danville since 1949, and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Jack D. Pryor of Danville; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and one-great-great granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Tom Evans and the Rev. Jim Kleinfelter officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Jack Pryor, 116 Lipton Lane.

Charles Transou

Charles (Chuck) Eugene Transou, 68, of Danville, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Salem.

Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Danville, he was the beloved son of the late J.G. and Gertie Hammock Transou.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tracy Nelson Transou and Rebecca Transou of Lynchburg, and their son Travis of Lynchburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Gale Marie Porter and Dr. James A. Porter III, and their children, Justin and Laura of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jared Porter of the U.S. Coast Guard; one brother, Jack L. Transou and sister-in-law Gaynelle Transou, both of Dry Fork; one sister and brother-in-law Geraline T. Robertson and Bill Robertson, both of Lynchburg.

He was predeceased by one son, Robert "Bobby" Lee.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Spring Hill cemetery, 3000 Fort Ave., Lynchburg, with the Rev. Dr. Don A. Garlock officiating. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, Lynchburg.

He and his great personality will be missed by family and friends.

Irona Wilson

Irona Bernice Brooks Hall Wilson, 59, of 1477 Aspen St., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, after two years of declining health.

Born Oct. 24, 1939, in Chatham, she was the daughter of Irona Brooks and Elizabeth Conner Brooks Horton, who survives.

She was married to Bethel L. Wilson, who survives.

She spent most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her mother of Holly Springs, N.C., and husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ragsdale of Danville and Elizabeth Ann Gallaher of Topeka, Kan.; one sister, Josephine Bailey of Louisburg, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard McDowell officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Kimberly Ragsdale, 1483 Aspen St.

Richard Ainsworth

Richard Lee Ainsworth, 68, of 106 Gary St., died Thursday morning, Jan. 7, 1999, at his residence.

Born July 26, 1930, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., he was the son of Reuben James Ainsworth and Lillian Thigpen Ainsworth Brown.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years. He had worked for Annaconda Cable in Eden, N.C., and most recently was employed by Averett College. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He was married Dec. 1, 1956, to Judith Marie Leonard Ainsworth, who survives.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Michael Lee Ainsworth and Kevin Richard Ainsworth, both of Danville.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John Ainsworth and James Ainsworth.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens with graveside military honors by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guards. Burial will be in mausoleum, Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
