Patsy White
GRETNA, Va - Patsy Hodnett White, 46, of 9797 Rockford School Road, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Nov. 15, 1952, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Henry Hodnett who predeceased her, and Caroline Hodnett.
She was married
to Steve White. She was employed by Pittsylvania County Social Services department and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk.
Survivors in addition to her mother, include her husband, of the residence; one daughter, Catrina White; one son, Stefan White, both of the residence; one sister, Joan Toler of Gretna; and one grandchild. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Tarpley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence.

Richard Clark
VINTON, Va. - Richard Wallace "Dick" Clark, 48, of Vinton and formerly of Buena Vista, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999.
Born Feb. 19, 1950, in Lexington, he was the son of Fred H. Clark and Isabelle T. Clark Robertson of Swoope, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Woodmen of the World. He was employed as a beauty supply sales consultant for Bruton and Company, L.P. of Charlottesville.
In addition to his mother, survivors include one daughter, Amy T. Clark of Vinton and her mother Elizabeth Hager; and two brothers, William M. "Bill" Clark of Buena Vista and Lester J. Clark of Lexington.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Robert Robertson.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Art Brumit officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Lomax Funeral Home, 2200 E. Midland Trail, Buena Vista.
Nellie Irwin
DANVILLE, Va. - Nellie Mary Wehry Irwin, 89, formerly of 120 Old Piney Forest Road, lot 23, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, 1999, at Piney Forest Healthcare Center where she had resided since November.
Born June 29, 1909, in Danville, she was the daughter of James A. Wehry and Martha Mills Wehry.
She was married
to James A. Irwin, who predeceased her Dec. 16, 1989.
She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked at Danville Knitting Mills for 21 years before retiring. She was a member of Mosley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle No. 1 of the church.
Survivors include one sister, Florence Elizabeth Moss of Danville; one stepbrother, Harold Reynolds of Danville; two nieces, Linda F. Crumpton and Martha L. Darnell, both of Danville; and other nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Lorrine Adkins.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Woodrow Giles officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her niece, Linda F. Crumpton, at 215 Vicar Place.
Edward Lewis
DANVILLE, Va. - Edward R. "Shorty" Lewis, 71, of 320 Wendell Scott Drive, died Thursday Jan. 14, 1999, at his home.
Born June 10, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Edward Lewis and Bertha Johnson Lewis.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of North New Hope Baptist Church where he was a deacon, president of the male choir, a member of the combined choir and a past Sunday school teacher.
He was married
to Lamer L. Lewis, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include one sister, Marietta Austin of Newark, N.J.; two sons, Edward R. Lewis III and Ronnie Lewis, both of Philadelphia, Penn.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Willard D. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends until 8 p.m. today at L.H. Brooks & Bro. Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Jeffrey McCormick
DANVILLE, Va. - Jeffrey Ray McCormick, 18, of 1861 Kentuck Rd., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 30, 1980, in Danville, he was the son of Barbara M. McCormick and Dudley Ray McCormick, who survives.
He was an honor graduate of Dan River High School in 1998 and was a member of the JROTC, the Junior Beta Club, the football team and the baseball team. He was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students and was an All-American Scholar. He was a student at Danville Community College, and he attended Christian Fellowship Center Church of God.
In addition to his father of the residence, survivors include one half-brother, Bobby Wilson of Danville; and one step-grandmother, Juanita McGuire of Sutherlin.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neal Isom and the Rev. Ron Graham officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Janice McKinney
DANVILLE, Va. - Janice Dodd McKinney, 80, of 525 Skyline Ave., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center.
Born July 16, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Hughes Dodd and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Dodd.
She was married
to Woodrow Wilson McKinney on Dec. 26, 1938, who survives.
She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was active in all phases of church work. After 43 years of service, she retired in 1980 from Dan River Inc. where she worked in No. 8B Dress. She was also a member of the Dan River Retired Worker's Club.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, John Dodd McKinney of Towson, Md.; one step-sister, Doris Haber of Silvis, Ill.; and two step-brothers, Thomas Townsend of California and Leon Townsend of Danville.
She was predeceased by her step-mother, Verlie Lewis; one son, David McKinney; and one sister, Frances Hancock.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Beck officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

Lois Motley
DANVILLE, Va. - Lois Millner Motley, 87, formerly of 330 Winston Circle, died Sunday afternoon Jan. 17, 1999, at Piney Forest Healthcare Center where she had resided for one year.
Born July 29, 1911, in Chesterfield, S.C., she was the daughter of Fred Lee Millner and Mary Perkins Millner.
She was married
to Merrill Motley in 1929, who predeceased her Sept. 28, 1987.
She had made her home in Danville since the age of seven, and she worked at Dan River Inc. for 43 years. She also was a member of Shermont Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Shumate Harvey of Danville and Jewell Millner Collie of Boca Raton, Fla.; and one brother, Llewellyn Millner of Danville.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery.

Evelyn Owen
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Evelyn Conner Owen, 76, of 7244 Philpott Rd., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born May 20, 1922 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Lemmie T. Conner and Elizabeth Ruby Wilborn Conner.
She was married
to J. Weldon Owen, who survives.
She was a retired textile worker at JPS Converter and was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of South Boston, survivors include one daughter, Brenda O. Newcomb of Alton; three sisters, Marion Gordon of Alton, Artie Schweihert of Richmond and Jean Poole of Princeton, N.C.; two brothers, Glenn Conner of Richmond and Carl Conner of Amherst; and two granddaughters.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ephesus Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Watlington and Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Elma Solomon
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Elma Talbott Solomon, 79, of 2132 Old Cluster Springs Road, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1919, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Boss Henry Talbott and Esther Richardson Talbott.
She was married
to William Lonnie Solomon, who predeceased her.
She was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens and was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church.
She also was predeceased by one brother, Crafton Talbott.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Fariss officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, South Boston.
