HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. - Lurlean Glass Harper, 95, of Route 3, Nathalie, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg.
Born Oct. 1, 1903, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Charles Edgar Glass and Fannie Spencer Glass.
She was married
to Glen R. "Pete" Harper.
She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.
Survivors include four nephews, Bobby P. Knowles, Malcolm H. Knowles, C. Michael Glass and David L. Glass, all of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catawba Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Sayford Moon officiating.

Lucille Sparrow
DANVILLE, Va. - Lucille Hazelwood Sparrow, 79, of 160 Sherwood Drive, died Saturday Jan. 30, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Danville, she was the daughter of Arthur Lee Hazelwood and Melissa Barker Hazelwood.
She was a housewife who had lived most of her life in Danville. She was of the Holiness faith.
She was married
to Howard Thomas Sparrow on Oct. 10, 1972, who survives.
She was predeceased by four brothers, James Ivory Hazelwood, Fitcher Hazelwood, William Hazelwood and Hubert C. Hazelwood.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Janice Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence of her niece, Janice Simmons, 14575 Richmond Road, Keeling.
Margaret Allen
CHATHAM, Va. - Margaret Morrison Allen, 75, of 4139 Wesley Woods Drive, Rock Hill, S.C., formerly of Chatham, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Piedmont Health Care Center, Rock Hill.
Born Oct. 2, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of George W. Morrison and Lena Johnson Morrison Motley.
She was married
to Hunt Hargrave Allen, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include four sons, Hunt M. Allen of Rock Hill, S.C., Glen C. Allen of Oklahoma City, Okla., Phillip L. Allen of Starke, Fla., and Richard D. Allen of Chatham; two daughters, Carolyn A. Rasnake of Walkertown, N.C., and Kathy A. Doyle of Martinsville; one sister, Lillie Mae Brown of Danville; and one brother, James Carl Daniels of Danville; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chatham Burial Park with the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn officiating.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Scott Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, Beverly Heights Road, Chatham.
Billie Ann Brownfield
OZARK, Ala. - Billie Ann Davis Brownfield, 65, of 309 Hudson Circle, Ozark, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at her residence after two years of declining health.
Born Jan. 30, 1934, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Claude Davis and Mamie Hunter Davis.
She was married
to Bob Brownfield in August 1958.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Debbie B. Selder; one son, Robbie Brownfield; and four grandchildren, all of Ozark.
She was predeceased by one brother, Wallace Davis.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Holman Funeral Home, South Union Avenue, Ozark. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 5 p.m. today and at other times at the residence.
Beatrice Hazelwood
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Beatrice Inez Hazelwood, 40, of 116 Rosehill Drive, Apt. 5, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born July 30, 1958, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Thomas June Hazelwood and Ida May Conner Hazelwood.
Survivors include one brother, Otis Hazelwood of Randolph; and three sisters, Geraldine Lacks of Red Oak, Edith Bray of South Boston, and Carolyn Carrington of Roxboro, N.C.
She was predeceased by one sister, Betty Turlington.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Providence Presbyterian Church cemetery, Nathalie.

Joe Milam
DANVILLE, Va. - Joseph Armstead (Sonny Boy) Milam, 67, of 139 Hamlin Ave., died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in Duke Medical Center. He had been in declining health for three years and in the hospital for five days.
Born April 26, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Henry Milam and Marguerite Slayton Milam.
He was married
Nov. 2, 1955, to Mauerine Starkey Milam, who died Aug. 31, 1989.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. He had retired as a lineman with the City of Danville Electric Department with 35 years of service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Laura M. McCoy, Carolyn M. Turner and Nancy M. Davis, all of Ringgold, and Melisa M. Herndon of Chatham; two sons, Johnny L. Starkey of Danville and Joseph E. Milam of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Henry A. Milam of Pittsville, Ryland A. Milam of Gretna and Gerald E. Milam of Danville; three sisters, Sarah M. Morris and Thomasine M. Wood, both of Richmond, Martha M. Worley of Gretna; and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Daisy M. McBride.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Roy Newton officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Charles Minter Sr.
CHATHAM, Va. - Charles Lee Minter Sr., 73, of 856 Mill Creek Road, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Born July 19, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Roy Granville Minter and Henrietta Whittle Minter.
He was maried to Mary Minter, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement on disability, he was employed by the Pittsylvania County school system in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Charles Lee Minter Jr. and Ronnie Dale Minter, both of Chatham, and Ivan Jerome Minter of Danville; one brother, Edward Minter of Capitol Heights, Md.; two sisters, Edith Gillespie of Ossining, N.Y., and Gladys Edwards of Philadelphia, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, William Minter and Albert Alvin Minter.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday from Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. H.G. McGhee Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Frank Owen Jr.
CORONADO, Calif. - Frank Thornton Owen Jr., 74, of 754 A Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at his residence in Coronado.
Born Sept. 13, 1924, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Frank Thornton Owen and Pearl Allen Owen.
He graduated from George Washington High School and was a 1947 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. After a 23-year career in the navy, he retired in 1969 as a commander and took up residence in Coronado.
During the past 10 years, he enjoyed roller skating competitively in dance competitions and won many state and national awards.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis Davis Owen; a sister, Dorothy A. Owen of Danville; a son, Wayne A. Owen of Coronado; and a grandson.
A memorial service with full military honors was held Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Fort Rosecrans National cemetery in Point Loma, overlooking San Diego, the Pacific Ocean and the North Island Naval Air Station.
Charles Shell
DRY FORK, Va. - Charles Ray Shell, 47, of 10821 Franklin Turnpike, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several years.
Born Aug. 30, 1951, in Banner Elk, N.C., he was the son of Ray Shell and Blanche Huffman Shell, who survive.
He had lived in the Danville and Pittsylvania county area for 23 years, where, prior to his retirement, he was a teacher for the Danville city schools for 22 years. He was also a member of several genealogy societies. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Lana B. Shell of the residence; one son, Eric R. Shell of Ithaca, N.Y.; and one daughter, Heather S. Fry of Radford.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
