Mamie Crews

CHATHAM, Va. - Mamie Creasy Crews, 94, of 21914 U.S. 29, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Piney Forest Health Care Center in Danville.

Born July 31, 1904, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Creasy and Nell Matherly Creasy.

She was married to Swanson I. Crews, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Payneton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois C. Barbour of Chatham; three sons, Dewey R. Crews of Gretna, and Holland Crews and Billy Crews, both of Chatham; two sisters, Viola Rosenbaum of Danville and Gay C. Pruitt of Chatham; two brothers, Johnny Creasy of Danville and Edward Creasy of Lynchburg; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Swanson O. Crews and Oma C. Crews.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Scott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James D. Siddons officiating. Interment icon will be in Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Holland Crews, 21792 U.S. Highway 29.

Alan Wildroudt Sr.

DANVILLE, Va. - Alan L. Wildroudt Sr., 69, of 363 Martin Ave., died Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 1999, at his residence after a decline in health since 1994.

Born April 17, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of La Verne Wildroudt and Lillian Medlin.

He was married to Mildred Evans Wildroudt, who survives.

He was retired from the U.S. Army after serving for 22 1/2 years, including tours during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam era. After retiring from the Army, he worked for 21 years as an auditor for Dan River Inc. until retirement. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Alan Wildroudt Jr. of Danville, Michael Wildroudt of Brosville and David Wildroudt of Elkton, Md.; one daughter, Kathy Short of Danville; one brother, Davis Medlin of Ferndale, Wash.; and six grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the Honor Guard from Fort Lee.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Ruth Parcell

DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth Hall Parcell, 81, formerly of 314 Wrenn Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville after a decline in health.

Born Feb. 13, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Walter Green Hall and Sally Bryant Hall.

She lived most of her life in Danville. She was a housewife and a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. She was the last surviving member of her generation.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Terry Parcell; one brother, Harold C. Hall Jr.; and three sisters, Lillian H. Holt, Frances Hall Terry Link and Mary H. Riddle.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Steven W. Greer and the Rev. Robert E. Carty officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her great nephew, Michael Owen, at 120 Hickory Drive, Blairs.

Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Davis

HALIFAX, Va. - Mildred Glass Davis, 73, of 1091 Turkey Run Road, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born April 6, 1925, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Noel Flournoy Glass and Emma Ruth Blanks Glass.

She was married to Jesse Dillard Davis. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Jesse James Davis of Baytown, Texas; three daughters, Joan Felvey and Janet Conner, both of Halifax, and Joyce Barker of Ringgold; two brothers, Garland Glass of Lynchburg and James Glass of South Boston; two sisters, Virginia G. Garber of South Boston and Jane G. McBride of Nathalie; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca G. Stanley.

The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. today at County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the residence.

Powell Funeral Home in South Boston is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Glass

CHATHAM, Va. - Margaret T. Glass, 59, of 1152 North Main St., died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born May 29, 1939, in Chester, Pa., she was the daughter of Issac Tanner and Annie Chism.

She was married to Robert Glass, who survives. She was a member of Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Robert L. Thompson of Yanceyville, N.C., Walter L. Thompson, Jimmie L. Thompson and Percy Thompson, all of Chatham; two daughters, Rosa Ann Thompson and Phebie T. Witcher, both of Chatham; two sisters, Mary Childress of Spring Garden and Louise Childress of Danville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. H.G. McGhee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Witcher, 512 Neighborhood Road, Chatham.

Howerton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Harrell

DANVILLE, Va. - Grace Vipperman Harrell, 92, of 109 Harris Place, died Sunday night, Feb. 7, 1999, in Piney Forest Health Care Center.

Born April 13, 1906, in Ararat, she was the daughter of Marion W. Vipperman and Mary Ann Hall Vipperman.

She was married to Lawson M. Harrell, who died in 1945.

She was employed at Anderson Brothers until her retirement in 1971.

Survivors include one daughter, Lillie H. McFarling of Danville; one sister, Susie V. Hiatt of Hillsville; and nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three sons, Carl M. Harold, James B. Harold and C. Otto Harold; two brothers and six sisters.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. today at Schoolfield cemetery with Dr. Richard Vinson officiating.

The family will receive friends at the daughter's residence, 732 Arlington Road.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arranagements.

Lily Hundley

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Lily Wyatt Hundley, 80, formerly of 1702 North Main St., died Monday evening, Feb. 8, 1999, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, where she lived since October 1998.

Born Jan. 13, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Lee Wyatt and Gracie Betterton Wyatt.

She was married to James C. Hundley, who died Sept. 2, 1970.

She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville, where she was a practical nurse for The Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1960. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was also predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hundley family cemetery in Axton with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home.

Gladys Lewis

FOREST, Va. - Gladys Walker Lewis, 78, of Forest, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999.

She was born June 6, 1920, in Pittsylvania County at Sheva, Route 5, Chatham, a daughter of the late John Jefferson East and Ellen Forney East. Her deceased husbands were James Kenneth Walker Sr. of Rustburg and Attwood L. Lewis of Roanoke. She was a long-time member of Rustburg Baptist Church. She was associated with the court system of Campbell County for 33 years as clerk of the Trial Justice Court, which evolved into the General District Court. She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star and achieved Worthy Matron. She was a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by one son, James K. Walker and his wife Dawn of Forest; two grandchildren, James K. Walker III and his wife Christina, and Jamie D. Walker, both of Texas; one great-grandchild, Zachary A. Walker; two sisters, Ora East Purdue and her husband Kermit of New Jersey, Edna East Townsend and her husband Marvin of Chatham; and two brothers, Samuel J. East and his wife Iris, and Paul B. East and his wife Phyllis, both of Route 5, Chatham; a host of nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Sharon Maddox. She was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth East Scruggs, Bertha Marie East, and Cora East Barbour; and two brothers, John David East and Harry Forney East.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, from Rustburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Cole. Interment icon will be at Rustburg cemetery following the service.

The family will receive friends before the service at the church beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Rustburg Baptist Church, 286 Rocky Road, Rustburg, Va., 24588, or Sheva Church of Christ, 4920 Chalk Level Road, Chatham, Va.

Woodall-Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg is in charge of arrangements.

James Patrick

NATHALIE, Va. - James Junior Patrick, 43, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.

Born May 20, 1955, in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of Arthur Patrick and Fannie Marie Patrick.

In addition to his mother of Nathalie and his father of Chester, Pa., survivors include one son, James Whitfield of Hurt; five sisters, Ella Barbour, Deborah Patrick and Lisa Patrick, all of Nathalie, Doris Hall of Gretna and Oria Patrick of Chester, Pa.; and four brothers, Freddie Patrick and Otis Patrick of Nathalie and Ricky Patrick and William Patrick of Chester, Pa.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Republican Grove Baptist Church in Nathalie with the Rev. L.S. Otey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother at 2246 Beals Lane, Nathalie.
