Ruth Wilson
DANVILLE, Va. - Ruth Knight Wilson, 74, of 305 Cedar Crest Lane, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been a paitent for two days and in declining health for two years.
Born July 12, 1924, in Oxford, N.C., she was the daughter of Charles Clayton Knight and Mabel Pitchford Knight.
She was married
April 29, 1943, to Harlin W. Wilson, who survives.
She had lived in Arlington prior to moving to Danville in 1981. She had retired from Montgomery Ward as a department manager after 16 years of service. She was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church and was a member of the Lydia Bible class and a member of the Camellia Chapter No. 63, Order of the Eastern Star in Eureka, Calif.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one son, Harlin W. (Bud) Wilson Jr. of Fairfax; one daughter, Frances Gayle W. Wilson of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, Clyde Bruce Knight of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Joyce K. Bell of Greensboro and Joan K. Tunstall of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hermon Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel and at other times at the residence.
Danny Woodall
NORFOLK, Va. - Danny Lee Woodall, 47, of 9335 Buckman Ave., Apt. B6, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 1999. He had been on disability for seven years.
Born March 29, 1951, in Danville, he was the son of Harry L. Woodall and Lucille Canady Woodall, who survive.
He was a 1970 graduate of George Washington High School and attended Danville Community College where he received an associate's degree in pre-teacher education, and was a student at Averett College in medical technology. He was appointed educational petty officer while serving in the U.S. Navy, and he had been employed by the Department of Respiratory Therapy at the Memorial Hospital. At the time of his death, he was a civil service employee for the U.S. Navy, working in drug testing at the Norfolk Naval Base. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents of Danville, survivors include one brother, Ernest Joseph Woodall of Sunanee, Ga. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain View cemetery, Danville, with the Rev. Richard Markham officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his parents, 14 Elizabeth St., Danville.

Charles Barksdale
CHATHAM, Va. - Charles Barksdale, 47, of 127 Jackson Lane, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 9, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 16, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Herbert Barksdale and Mary Jones Barksdale.
He was married
to Lorene Barksdale.
He was an employee of Hargrave Military Academy and a member of Clarkstown Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents of Gretna and wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Marcus Barksdale of the residence; one daughter, Natasha Barksdale of the residence; two brothers, William Scruggs Jr.and Abraham Scruggs, both of Washington, D.C.; seven sisters, Florine Scruggs, Pricella Scruggs and Romona Barksdale, all of Washington, Karen Barksdale of Trenton, N.J., Sandra Barksdale and Janice Barksdale, both of Gretna, and Carolyn Price of Chatham; his stepmother, Sylvia Barksdale of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Gretna with the Rev. B.I. Baize officiating. Burial will be in the Elba cemetery.
Elma Garrett
HILLSVILLE, Va. - Elma Hardy "Sis" Garrett, 86, beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, in Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Robert Walker Garrett. They lived in the Mount Hermon section of Danville.
She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Hillsville.
Survivors include two special nieces and their husbands, Bobbie and Bill Copeland of Hillsville, and Christine and Clyde Bowman of Claudeville; several other nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren, Eldridge Meeks Jr., Monalisa Hooker, James Meeks, Alice Smithey, David Meeks, Sylvia Williams, Mary Widdifield, Preston Meeks and Michael Hamilton; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday from First United Methodist Church in Hillsville. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Danville Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Ramon Torres and the Rev. Robert J. Barber Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at the church.
Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Lily Hundley
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Lily Wyatt Hundley, 80, formerly of 1702 North Main St., died Monday evening, Feb. 8, 1999, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, where she lived since October 1998.
Born Jan. 13, 1919, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Lee Wyatt and Gracie Betterton Wyatt.
She was married
to James C. Hundley, who died Sept. 2, 1970.
She spent most of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville, where she was a practical nurse for The Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1960. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was also predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at the Hundley family cemetery in Axton with the Rev. Jimmy Hussey officiating.

Dale Jones
DANVILLE, Va. - Dale Gray Jones, 46, of 866 Grove St., Apt. 4, was found dead at his residence Monday afternoon, Feb. 8, 1999. He had been in declining health for a number of years.
Born June 7, 1952, in Danville, he was a son of Thomas G. Jones and Jo Anne Moore Travis.
He was retired from the U.S. Army. He spent most of his life in Danville, where he was of the Jehovah's Witness faith.
In addition to his mother, of Danville, survivors include two sons, Wesley Dale Jones of the U.S. Navy and Daniel Wayne Jones of Danville; a half-brother, Timothy Travis of Danville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clarence Musgrove
GRETNA, Va. - The Rev. Clarence Musgrove, 71, of 1413 Renan Road, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 27, 1927, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Jessie Musgrove and Mary English Musgrove.
He was married
to Jeanette L. Musgrove, who predeceased him, and later was married
to Caroline Callands Musgrove, who survives.
He was a graduate of the New World Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He was a retired pastor of the St. Job Baptist Church in Washington and was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Washington.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Clarence Musgrove Jr. of Washington; four daughters, Mary Johnson of Washington, Rosa Lawrence of Lawndale, N.C, Lenora Pace of Richmond, and Genetta Callands of Phoenix; three brothers, Charlie Musgrove of Java, Muskie Musgrove of Washington, and Howard Musgrove of Gretna; three sisters, Angie Walker of Gretna, Sylvia Casey of Laura, Md., and Lucy Musgrove of Washington; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Riceville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Walker officiating. A service will also be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Baptist Church in Washington with burial in Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

Orney Payne
CHATHAM, Va. - Orney Payne, 95, of 389 Rison St., died Monday night, Feb. 8, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 28, 1903, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Alexander Craft and Betty Walker Craft.
She was married
to Hurie Payne, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Little Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Chatham.
Survivors include two daughters, Henrietta Harris of Chatham and Dorothy E. Harris of Alexandria; a son, Samuel L. Carter of Halifax.
The funeral will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Saturday from Little Mount Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Mandora Haynes with burial in the New Jerusalem Holiness Church cemetery in Java.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the church and at other times at the residence of Henrietta Harris, 389 Rison St.

James Tate
MOBILE, Ala. - James Irvin Tate, 93, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, 1999, in Providence Hospital in Mobile.
Born Oct. 12, 1905, in Cottage Valley, Va., he was a son of Vincent Carrington Tate and Jennie Watkins Tate.
He worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. for 41 years and was manager of the Mobile lower downtown store from 1947 until he retired in 1970.
He was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the Exchange Club for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Pafford Tate of the home; two sons, James LeGrande Tate and William Pafford Tate, both of Mobile; three sisters, Mary Emma Wilson of Sandston, Va., Louise Gilliam of South Boston, Va., and Meyda Barksdale of Blackstone, Va.; two brothers, the Rev. Manson B. Tate of Dublin, Va., and Paige Tate of Greensboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Highland Burial Park, Danville, with the Rev. Manson B. Tate officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home.
Marlowe Trivers
GRETNA, Va. - Marlowe Trivers, 65, of 1825 Maryland Ave., NE, Washington, D.C., and formerly of Gretna, died Monday morning, Feb. 8, 1999, in D.C. General Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Elma Trivers of Gretna and the Rev. William Trivers.
Prior to his retirement on disability, he was employed by the Hilton Hotel in Washington and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Delores Trivers of the residence; a brother, Joseph Addison Trivers of Gretna; a sister, Hollis Trivers Tyler of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. B.I. Baize officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park in Danville.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother at 169 Franklin St., Gretna.
