Helen Foster
DANVILLE, Va. - Helen Walker Foster, 93, of 224 Courtland St., Apt. 334, died late Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in Stratford Health Care Center, where she had lived since Nov. 19, 1998.
Born Dec. 16, 1905, in Ruffin, N.C., she was a daughter of Joseph Strader and Ida Cook Strader.
Her husband, John T. Foster, died March 20, 1967.
She spent most of her life in Danville, where she was a charter member of Central Boulevard Church of God. She retired from Dan River Inc. and was a member of the Dan River Retired Employees Club.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. William D. Walker of Cleveland, Tenn.; two daughters, Evelyn W. Jones and Ocie W. Spencer, both of Danville; a half-sister, Naomi Fender of Sparta, N.C.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John H. Meadows and the Rev. William Michael Walker officiating. Burial will be in Schoolfield cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Ocie Spencer, at 113 Burwood Place.
Ethel Hughes
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Ethel Gladys Hughes, 74, of 1405 Stebbins St., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 26, 1925, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Hervey Hughes and Dorothy Rutledge Hughes.
She was retired from Wabash and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her brother, James Hervie Hughes of Nashville, Tenn.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Spainhour at 1143 Alphonse Dairy Road.
Inez Moore
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Inez Moore Inge, 93, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the Woodview.
Born Sept. 17, 1905, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Albert Anderson Moore and Ella Hughes Moore.
She was married
to Ernest Martin Inge. A member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, she was a retired employee of Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp.
Survivors include a daughter, Elsie I. Lowery of South Boston; a son, Douglas B. Inge of Nathalie; a stepson, Ernest B. Inge of South Mills, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Edith Overcash.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Davidson officiating. Burial will be in Dan River Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter at 2158 Huell Matthews Highway.
Wister Moore
DANVILLE, Va. - Wister A. Moore, 77, of 302 Norwood Drive, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 29, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Ruby Pruett Moore and Charlie C. Moore Sr.
He was married
Oct. 30, 1943, to Nell Glass Moore.
He was president and part owner of Danville Auto Supply prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in the European theater during World War II. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sisters, Frances M. Butler of Sutherlin, Elsie M. Adams of Richmond, Hattie M. Felts of Ivor and Nora M. Solomon of Alton; three brothers, Charlie C. Moore Jr. of Alton, J. Jimmy Moore of Alton, and Edward L. Moore of Sophia, N.C.
He was predeceased by one brother, Lewis E. Moore.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Curtis Rowland
RINGGOLD, Va. - Millard Curtis Rowland, 73, of 1149 Fall Creek Road, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Duke Medical Center, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Claude Swanson Rowland and Mattie Barker Rowland.
He had lived all of his life in the Ringgold community of Pittsylvania County. He was a retired farmer and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was married
on Sept. 30, 1942, to Alise Shelton Rowland, who died Jan. 12.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia R. Rozewicz of Danville and Ellen R. Whitt of Knightdale, N.C.; a son, Richard W. Rowland of Callands; five sisters, Evelyn R. Ferguson of Flint, Mich., Margie R. Petty, Nancye R. Matherly, Ruth R. Williams, all of Danville, and Faye R. Poteat of Providence, N.C.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Douglas Carroll Rowland; and a brother, Claude Swanson Rowland Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Wilson officiating.

Beatrice Stermer
DANVILLE, Va. - Beatrice "Bea" E. Stermer, 78, of 4897 Mount Cross Road, Lot 3, died Saturday morning, Feb. 13, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born April 11, 1920, in Corning, N.Y., she was the daughter of Clayton Horace Edwards and Mildred Strait Edwards.
She was a housewife and was of the Catholic faith.
She was married
to Maynard George Stermer, who died in August 1982.
Survivors include one son, Ronald G. Stermer of Norman, Okla.; three daughters, Sharon A. Slater of Painted Post, N.Y., Marcia J. Barker of Salisbury, Md., and Linda S. Adkins of Sutherlin; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at the mausoleum at Danville Memorial Gardens, where she will be entombed. Father David McGuire will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Linda S. Adkins, at 300 Golden Lane, Sutherlin, off U.S. 58 east of Danville.

Grady Willis
DANVILLE, Va. - Grady T. Willis, 79, of 61 Stokesland Ave., died early Friday morning, Feb. 12, 1999, at his residence. He had been in declining health.
Born July 19, 1919, in Ferrum, he was a son of Tom Ed Willis and Ellen Bryant Willis.
He had been married
to Lucille Mitchell Stratton Willis for 25 years.
He had lived in Danville for 60 years and worked for Dan River Inc. before retiring. He had been a member of Riverview Baptist Church for more than 40 years.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Patricia Davis of Gretna and Doris Davis of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sons, David L. Willis of Danville, Carl T. Willis of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Grady W. Willis of Charlotte, N.C.; five stepchildren, Kathy Duke and Carol Sams, both of Danville, Wetonia Moore of Eden, N.C., Nancy Mitchell of Litz, Pa., and James D. Stratton of Sutherland; one brother, Herman Willis of Ferrum; one sister, Eula Dix of Danville; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Swicegood Funeral Home by the Rev. Duane Blevins and the Rev. Gilmer Setliff. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence.
Robert Cliborne
ALTON, Va. - Robert Cornelius Cliborne, 86, of 5114 Cluster Springs Road, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at his home.
Born April 30, 1912, in Halifax County, he was the son of George R. Cliborne and Ethel Nelson Cliborne.
He was the retired owner and operator of Cliborne Auto Parts and Repair. A member of Harmony United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
He was married
to Harrell Oakley Cliborne, who predeceased him.
Survivors include one daughter, Tinnell G. Boone of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth C. Smith and Eugenia C. Walker, both of Alton; and two grandsons.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harmony United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens, South Boston.

Robert Collie
DANVILLE, Va. Robert Junior Collie, 74, of 507 Granville Drive, died Sunday morning, Feb. 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 3, 1924, in Milton, N.C., a son of Roberson Pendleton Collie and Lessie McCann Collie Coley.
He was employed at Taylor Brothers Garage for 28 years and then with Fuquay Pontiac Inc. until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church and the fellowship class.
He was married
to the former Lorraine Taylor on Oct. 9, 1948, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two sons, David Harry Collie and his wife Pam of Yanceyville, N.C., and Stephen Thomas Collie and his wife Anne of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Lillie Mae Collie Taylor of Danville; and four grandchildren, Robert Earl Collie, Lauren Nichole Collie and Zachary Bennett Collie, all of Yanceyville, N.C., and Anne Alexandra Collie of Raleigh, N.C.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde Collie and Walter Collie.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Main Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis and the Rev. Kyle Flora officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the North Main Baptist Church Building Fund.
