Barbara Fuquay

RINGGOLD, Va. - Barbara Gibson Fuquay of 1208 Logan Lane, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 in the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

Born November 10, 1933 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Gossie Gibson Sr. and Lucille Motley Gibson.

She was a retired artist. She ran her own studio and worked for Compson and Hitchcock Studios. She was a member of The Tabernacle.

She is survived by her husband, N.G. Fuquay, of the home; her mother, Lucille M. Gibson, of Ringgold; a son, Steven Fuquay, of Ringgold; two sisters, Sheree Fuquay of Ringgold and Lori Snyder of Danville; two brothers, G.E. "Sonny" Gibson Jr. of Ringgold and David Gibson of Blairs; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Floral Hills Memory Garden with the Rev. Lamarr Mooneyham officiating.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Peggy Gibson, 1202 Logan Lane, Ringgold.

Beatrice Gourley

DANVILLE, Va. - Beatrice Shorter Gourley, 101, formerly of 139 Locust Lane, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.

Born Dec. 21, 1897, in Danville, she was the daughter of John Henry Shorter and Kate Durham Shorter.

She was married to Charles Henry Gourley Sr., who died Nov. 17, 1970.

She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church where she taught Sunday school for 17 years and was a member of Circle No. 11. She was a homemaker who lived her entire life in Danville.

Survivors include one son, Charles "Charlie" H. Gourley Jr. of Danville; three daughters, Doris G. Savage and Frances G. Brann, both of Danville, and Catherine G. Willis of Ventura, Calif.; five sisters, Rosa S. Moss of Frederick, Md., Lessie S. Bray of Richmond, Ruby S. Bass and Ruth S. Goble, both of Danville, and Julia S. Mahan of Conyers, Ga.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 140 Guilford St.

Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lathalia Holmes

OREGON, Ohio - Lathalia "Sadie" Holmes, 95, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Home for the Aged in Toledo.

Born on April 23, 1903 in Rocky Mount, Va., she was the daughter of Thomas Hodges and Susan Hodges.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Dan River, Inc. She was a member of East Toledo Baptist Church, in Toledo, Ohio, where she had been a resident for a number of years.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Home for the Aged, 4900 Navarre Ave., Toledo.

A private graveside service will be held at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Va.

The family will receive friends 1-7 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Home for the Aged in Ohio.

Hoeflinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Toledo.

Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of local arrangements in Danville.

LaKendrel Mayo

DANVILLE Va. - LaKendrel Mayo, age 2 months, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was the infant son of LaKendra Mayo and Shemorrie Lee Stephens of 313 Blaine St., Apt. 2.

He is survived by his mother and father; one sister, LaKuandra Johnson, of the residence; one brother, LaKendric Mayo, also of the residence; his maternal grandparents, Gayle Coleman and George Coleman of Ringgold; his paternal grandmother, Deborah Stephens; his maternal great-grandparents, Gwendolyn Walker, Curtis Guy Sr., Barbara Mayo, and Earl Mayo Sr.; and one paternal great-grandmother, Cora Stephens.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday in the Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gayle Coleman, 3872 Rocksprings Road, Ringgold.

Kelly Pointer

ROSWELL, Ga. - Kelly G. Pointer, 62, of 1283 North Winescip Run, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, after a lengthy illness at the Central State Hospital.

Born on October 17, 1936, he was the son of John Elmer Pointer and Sophia Pointer.

Survivors include one son, Glen Pointer of the Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, John Pointer of Summerset, N.J.; one sister, Sarah Cruz, of Roswell; two aunts, Nannie Johnson and Dorothy Wenstley both of Alton, Va; one uncle, Johnnie Pointer of Alton, Va.; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Brandon Chapel Baptist Church in Alton, Va., with the Rev. H.R. Surgeon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

There will be a viewing at the Plenty Funeral Home Chapel from noon to 8 p.m. today.

Thomas Price Jr.

DANVILLE, Va. - Thomas E. "Tom Kitty" Price Jr., 54, of 334 Cumberland Drive, died Monday morning, Feb. 15, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1944, in Danville, he was the son of Thomas E. Price Sr. and Ruth C. Price.

He was married to Gloria K. Price, who survives.

He was an associate pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. He was an advertising sales representative for the Danville Register and Bee. A former member of the Danville Jaycees, he was a member of Danville Ministerial Alliance.

In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include two sons, Bryan Price of Danville and Kevin Price of Blacksburg; one daughter, Kimberly P. Elliott of Reston; two brothers, Ralph C. Price and Keith A. Price, both of Danville; one sister, Deborah P. Wiley of Danville; his stepmother, Lois M. Price of Danville; two grandchildren, Kristina G. Price and Jasmine Price, both of Blacksburg; and an aunt, Barbara Jean Clark of Danville.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Matthew R. Price.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church on Holbrook Street with the Rev. Serenus T. Churn Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Beavers Funeral Home, 355 Holbrook St.

The family will recieve friends at the home of Vivian Keen, 608 Holbrook St.

Carrington Roach

GRETNA, VA. - Carrington Phillip Roach, 17, of 204 Toney St., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999.

Born March 23, 1981, in Danville, he was the son of Phillip Lee Roach and Sharon Trent Runyon.

He was a member of the Gretna Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a step-mother, Shelia Tate Roach, of the residence; a paternal grandmother, Agnes Roach of Chatham; a paternal great-grandmother, Lena Custer of Gretna; one brother, Matthew Shallenberger of Gretna, three sisters, Heather Roach, Mallory Roach and Esther Shallenberger, all of the residence.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. Interment icon will be in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Colbert- Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Jake Talbott

DANVILLE, Va. - Jacob Lee Talbott, of 627 Arnett Blvd., Apt. 7, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 17, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Scott Thomas Talbott and Dollie Davis Talbott.

He was married to Frances D. Talbott, who survives.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, where he received a number of medals for combat in France and Germany. He retired in 1984 from the City of Danville where he was a heavy equipment operator.

He was a member of Danville Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Lois Talbott Went of Raleigh, N.C.; three sons, Danny Lee Talbott of Danville, Keith Mayers Talbott of Chesapeake and Michael Anthony Talbott of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, S.D. Talbott of Dillwyn and Garnett Talbott of Rustburg; one stepson, Charlie Pruitt of Danville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Chris Gribbs, Carolyn Winstead and Warren Grubbs. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery in Chatham.

The family will receive friends at the son's residence, 1889 Kentuck Road.

Lydia White

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Lydia Bailey White, 76, of 354 North Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

She was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Halifax County.

Survivors include three daughters, Hattie Simms, Carolyn Carden and Sharon Harvey of Halifax, Va; two sons, James White of Washington, D.C., and Richard White of Jersey City, N.J.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Banister Hill Baptist Church in Halifax with the Rev. William Carr officiating.

A viewing will be held one hour prior to service.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Crawford, Garrett & Burton are in charge of arrangements.

Bernita Whittle

DANVILLE, Va. - Bernita Whittle, 44, of 171 Smith St. died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 10, 1954, she was the daughter of Dorothy Whittle.

Survivors, in addition to her mother of the residence, include one daughter, Sanquinetta Whittle, of Danville; two sisters, Carolyn Whittle and Berneta Whittle, both of Danville; one brother, Ronald Whittle, also of Danville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
