Frances Spicer
DANVILLE, Va - Frances "Fonny" Moore Spicer, 35, of 1614 Ferry Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 27, 1963, in Danville, she was the daughter of Alton L. Moore and Margie Tickle Moore, who survives.
She was married
to Steven E. Spicer who also survives.
She spent her life in Danville where she worked for Intertape, Inc. prior to becoming disabled. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents of Danville and husband of the residence, survivors include one step-son Steven E. Spicer, Jr. of Danville; three brothers Chuck Moore and Pernell Moore, both of Danville; and Lewis Moore of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister Penny Moore of Danville.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stephen R. Lamb officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at her parents' residence, 338 Brentwood Drive.
Frank Chandler
DANVILLE, Va. - Frank Raymond Chandler, 48, of 150 Lansdale St., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Duke Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born Jan. 22, 1951, in Danville, Va., he was the son of Raymond Graves and Helen Chandler who survives.
He was married
to Sylvia Chandler, who survives.
He was a truck driver and a member of North New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother of Greensboro, N.C., and wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Ryan Chandler and Marcus Chandler, both of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; two step-sons Harry Johnson and Antonio Johnson, both of Danville; one daughter, Ashley Chandler of Danville; and two sisters, Louise Chandler and Esther Hilton, both of Mount Vernon, N.Y.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Willard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Crooktown cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Lois Graves, 107 Beavers Mill Road.
A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Hughie Dodson
DANVILLE, Va. - Hughie L. Dodson, 66, of 1267 W. Paxton St., died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Veteran Administration Medical Center, Durham, N.C.
Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Danville, he was the son of Joseph and Virgie Dodson.
He was married
to Willie Mae White Dodson, who survives.
He was retired from the United States Army and the State of New Jersey. He was a member of Loyal Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Danville, survivors include one son, Timothy Dodson of Petersburg; one sister, Barbara Dodson of California; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at L.H. Brooks & Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lovell Maxwood officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Burnice Evans
CLINTON, Md. - Burnice Evans, 86, of 9304 Hwy 62 North, died Feb. 22, 1999 at the Pineview Nursing Home in Clinton, Maryland.
Born April 19, 1912, in Caswell County, N.C., he was the son of Henry Evans and Annie Moore.
He was married
to Nannie Brown Evans, who predeceased him.
He is survived by three daughters, Theresa Rogers (McArthur) of Clinton, Dorthy Sykes of Raleigh, N.C. and Ruth Richardson (Aubrey) of Landover; one adopted son, James Evans of Landover; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Zion Baptist Church in Milton, N.C., with the Rev. Zeb Kimber officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening at the Plenty Funeral Home Chapel in Semora, N.C., and other times at the residence, 9304 Hwy 62 North in Milton, N.C.
Calpertie Garrett
QUEENS, N.Y. - Calpertie Faulkner Garrett, 81, of Queens, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Rockland State Hospital in Rockland County, N.Y.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1918, in Mecklenburg County.
She was married
to Samuel Garrett of Queens, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one brother, Calvin Faulkner of Durham, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Nathalie, Va., with the Rev. James Traynham officiating. The remains may be viewed an hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford, Garrett & Burton Funeral Service and all other times at the residence of Annie Ragland, 4055 Morton's Ferry Road in Nathalie.
Coy Gibson
DANVILLE, Va. - Coy Clifton Gibson, 52, of 126 Ashwood Place, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a two-year decline in health.
Born May 24, 1946, in Eden, N.C., he was the son of Clifton Lee Gibson and Juanita Tolbert Gibson, who both survive.
He was married
to Constance Tilley Gibson, who also survives.
He spent most of his life in Danville. He was employed by the Danville Police Department as a police officer for six years until his decline in health. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 20 years where he was a member of the Top Ten Supervisors. He also worked for Schewels Furniture Co. for six years and was a coach for Danville Little League.
He attended Riveroak Church of God.
In addition to his parents of Eden, N.C., and his wife of the residence, survivors include one son, Coy Gregory Gibson of Danville; one daughter, Kimberly Lokiel Ford of Eden, N.C.; one brother Gary Lee Gibson of Eden; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Riveroak Church of God with the Rev. Tim Nuckles officiating. Burial will be in Danview cemetery in Eden.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the church and at other times at the residence.

Carl Rhodes Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Carl Huel Rhodes Jr., 73, of 211 Clarkson St., died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after three weeks in the hospital and several months of declining health.
Born May 31, 1925, in Danville, he was the son of Carl Huel Rhodes Sr. and Mary Kay Glasgow Nelson.
He served in the United States Navy in the European Theater during World War II. He lived his life in various cities in Virginia, including Danville, Martinsville and Chesapeake. Mr. Rhodes retired from Ford Motor Company as a supervisor and was also employed with Dan River Inc. for a number of years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Ringgold Golf Club.
Survivors include three sons Donny William Rhodes of Danville, Ronny James Rhodes of Virginia Beach; and Christopher Nelson Rhodes of Salida, Colo.; one sister Joan Miller of Chesapeake, Va., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, George R. Rhodes.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Father David McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Leemont cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Chapel today and at other times at the residence of his son, Donny Rhodes, 302 Dunmore St.
Wendy Scearce
DANVILLE, VA. - Mary "Wendy" Dill Scearce, 40, of 433 Granville Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center after an auto accident.
Born Sept. 24, 1958, in Danville, she was the daughter of Herman W. Dill and Mary Lowery Dill, who survives.
She lived in Danville most her her life and was educated in the Danville Public School system. She was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church.
In addition to her mother of the residence, survivors include one son, Bryan L. Beazley of Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Brenda D. Powell of Danville and Sharon D. Scearce of Dry Fork, Va.; and one brother, Ralph H. Dill of Danville.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Freddy Vicks officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

Fred Shepherd
EDINBURG, Va.- Fred C. Shepherd, 76, of 3578 Stoney Creek Road, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, at his home.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. The Reverend William Fitchett will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday.
Mr. Shepherd was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Pikesville, Ky., son of the late John S. and Nellie Gill Shepherd.
He retired after 43 years from Avtex, where he was a spinning engineer.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by three daughters, Freda Spence of Edinburg, Carol Kelly of Delaware and Ada Craig of Front Royal; three sisters, Dolly Barber, Doris Childress and Sue Brooks, all of Danville; two brothers, James Shepherd and Richard Shepherd, both of Danville; four grandchildren, Chuck Sloat, Todd Sloat, David Esteppe III and Shannon Kelly; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Sloat, Amber Sloat, and Rusty Ray Sloat.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, John B. Shepherd, William Shepherd, Douglas Shepherd, Charles Shepherd and Ray Shepherd; and two grandsons, Timothy Ray Sloat and Ricky Lee Crane.

GRETNA, Va. - Edgar William Albert, 81, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born June 11, 1917, in Montgomery County, he was the son of Lee and Eula Albert.
He was married
to Coryn Pearson Albert, who predeceased him.
He was a member of Piney Fork Baptist Church and retired owner of Edgar Albert Construction Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Lynch of Gretna; two sisters, Eaola Moore of Christiansburg and Georgie Shelbourne of Radford; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Piney Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Glass and the Rev. David Turbyfill officiating. Interment
will be in Gretna Burial Park.
