Aubrey Gibson
DANVILLE, Va. - Aubrey Wayne Gibson, 59, of 668 Iris Lane, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Aug. 7, 1939, in Danville, he was the son of Aubrey B. Gibson and Mary Meeks Gibson.
Gibson attended Community Baptist Church in Danville and was a member of Pisquah Baptist Church in Kernersville, N.C. He lived his life in Houston and Danville.
Gibson was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from Piedmont Airlines, where he worked as an aircraft inspector. He retired because of his health.
He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Gibson Loftis of Danville and Tammy Gibson Powell of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; one son, Tony Gibson of Altus, Okla.; one sister, Betty G. Holder of Danville; one brother, Michael Gibson of Danville; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Johnny Gibson.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park. The service will be officiated by the Rev. James Albert. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Floreine Gilbert
CHATHAM, Va. - Floreine Towler Gilbert, 83, of 828 Strawberry Road, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at her residence.
Born Oct. 13, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, Va., she was the daughter of Samuel Joseph Towler and Woodruth Nuckols Towler. \
She was married
to Jesse E. Gilbert, who predeceased her.
Gilbert was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church in Chatham and a Pittsylvania County school teacher.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Gwendolyn E. Gilbert; one sister, Blandford T. Anderson; and two brothers, S. Byron Towler and Moir M. Towler.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia G. Hedrick of Callands and Katharine N. Gilbert of Aylett; a sister, Woodruth T. Motley of Portsmouth; three brothers, J. Parker Towler of Chatham, James W. Towler of Jacksonville, Fla., and E. Reid Towler of Chatham; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. Haywood Alcorn and the Rev. Jonathan Winningham officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the residence.

Homer Hudkins
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Homer Jesse Hudkins, 85, of 1041 Rogers Trail, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1914, in West Virginia, he was the son of Lee Hudkins and Elizabeth Hudkins.
He was a retired farmer.
He was married
to Dorothy Ann Hill Hudkins, who survives.
In addition to his wife of South Boston, survivors include three daughters, Betty Ann Hudkins, Margie Ann Hudkins and Barbara Jean Hudkins, all of South Boston; and one grandson.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary Nella Ingram
GRETNA, Va. - Mary Nella Smith Ingram, 72, of 455 Blue Ridge Drive, Gretna, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1927, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late William Marvin Smith and Carrie Collins Smith.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gretna, a former employee of E.A. Smith and Company, the Pittsylvania County Schools and the Pittsylvania County Public Libraries.
She is survived by her husband, D. Frank Ingram Jr. of the residence; two sons, David Frank Ingram III and Kent Scott Ingram, both of Gretna; two daughters, Gwen I. Moschler of Danville and Angie I. Hodnett of Rustburg; three sisters, Becky Walters of Key West, Fla., Reese Barbee of Greensboro, N.C., and Eleanor Briley of Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchidlren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at First Baptist Church of Gretna with the Rev. Glenn Graves and the Rev. W.D. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, 1999, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence 455 Blue Ridge Drive, Gretna.

Florence Murray
DANVILLE, Va. - Florence Draper Murray, 93, of 581 Songbird Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born April 14, 1906, in Amia, N.Y., she was the daughter of George W. Draper and Genevieve Goodrich Draper.
She had been a resident of Danville since 1989.
She was married
to David Arthur Murray, who predeceased her Sept. 19, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Alan D. Murray of Danville; one daughter, Evan M. Cornell of Ocean Grove, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View cemetery with the Rev. Rebecca Powell officiating.

John Newcomb
CLOVER, Va. - John Poker Newcomb, 84, of 206 South Main St., died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 7, 1915, he was the son of John Newcomb and Della Wade Newcomb.
He was married
to Florence Newcomb, who survives.
He was a retired owner/manager of Clover Texaco and a retired farmer.
He was a member of Clover Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Clover, survivors include one daughter, Brenda N. Dunaway of Drakes Branch, Va.; two sons, Danny Newcomb of Stoneville, N.C., and Jason Newcomb of Saxe, Va.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and 13 step-greatgrandchildren.

Mary Ware
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Emma Ware, 96, of 231 Ridge St., Apt. 406, died Friday evening, Feb. 26, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Sept. 18, 1902, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Charlie Henry Ware and Molly Zetta Strader Ware.
She was married
to George Henry Ware, who predeceased her.
Ware spent most of her life in Caswell County. She made Danville her home in 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Annie Maie Ware and Mary Elizabeth Ware.
Survivors include four daughters, Louise W. McDowell of Providence, N.C., Gladys W. Wire of Pacific Grove, Calif., Irene W. Booth of Blairs, and Jeanine W. Dix of Bellevue, Neb.; one son. Charles H. Ware of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Eva W. Wray of Greensboro, N.C., Lucile W. Lewis of Brown Summit, N.C., and Lillie S. Shelton of Reidsville, N.C.; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roger Collins.
Interment will follow at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church cemetery in Caswell County.
The family will be at the 2755 Shady Grove Road residence of her daughter, Louise W. McDowell.
Ollie Wells
DANVILLE, Va. - Ollie Mae Brigman Wells, 85, of 57 Glen Oak Drive, died early Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 11, 1913, in Rockingham, N.C., she was the daughter of Levi Brigman and Fannie Jernigas Brigman.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Easter Wells, who died in June 1998.
She spent her most of her life in the Danville area. She worked in No. 2 spinning at Dan River Inc., before retiring in 1975. She was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Brigman and John Calvin Brigman.
She is survived by one sister, Chleone Propst of Danville.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Collins officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Elizabeth Adams
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Elizabeth Hicks Adams, 90, of Heritage Haven, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
A daughter of the late William Royster and Mattie Greeson Hicks, she was born Oct. 30, 1908, in Whitsett, N.C. She lived in Harrisonburg for five years and prior to that in Keeling, Va.
Mrs. Adams was educated at Risen Park High School in Danville. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and was honored as Woman of the Year in 1987. She was a charter member of the College Park Baptist Church in Danville and an affiliate member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg.
On Dec. 26, 1925, she married
Thomas Wilbert Adams, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1975.
Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy Adams Thompson and her husband, Dr. Walker S. Thompson of Harrisonburg; one sister, Julia Hicks Oakley of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one granddaughter, Damarius Thompson Marion and her husband, John Williams of Williamsburg; two grandsons, Forrest Walker Thompson and his wife Carol of Dayton and Thomas Leon Thompson of Keezeltown; three great-granddaughters Whitney Thompson, Katherine Thompson and Sarah Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. L. Douglas Hill, the Rev. James M. John and the Rev. E. Anne Hough officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View cemetery in Danville.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. or at any time at the residence of her daughter at 451 Fairway Drive.
