Louise Hutcherson

Louise Carter Hutcherson, 88, formerly of 275 Arnett Blvd., died Sunday morning, March 7, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a nine-month decline in health.

Born Sept. 5, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Willie Vass Carter and Sallie Lou Collie Carter.

She spent her entire life in Danville, where she was employed by Dan River Inc. before her retirement.

She was married to Robert Hutcherson, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Agnes B. Yeaman of Danville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Lee D. Ellison officiating.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other time at the residence.

Annie Mae Miller

DANVILLE, Va. - Annie Mae Miller, 78, of 501 North Ridge St., died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born April 26, 1920, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of George and Annie Hughes.

She was a member of New Haven Baptist Church in Milton, N.C.

Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth Pratt of Washington, Mabel Davis of Gary, Ind., and Flora McDuffie of Danville; one brother, Paul Hughes of Danville; six grandchildren, Temeca Moore of the residence, Jean Overby, Barry Gunn and Brian Gunn, all of Danville, and Marquel Miller and Reggie Miller, both of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Haven Baptist Church in Milton with the Rev. Harold Wenstley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

There will be a viewing 12-8 p.m. at Plenty Funeral Home Chapel, Semora, N.C.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her sister, Flora McDuffie, 128 Spruce St.

Gordon Neal

DANVILLE, Va. - Gordon Hartman Neal, 48, of 1958 Blair Loop Road, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at his residence, after one year of declining health.

Born Oct. 7, 1950, in Danville, he was the son of Kenneth Hartman Neal and Marie Gourley Neal, who survives.

He was a member of College Park Baptist Church. A local artist, he was an active member of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History.

He was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and Averett College, and he lived his entire life in Danville where he worked for the Danville Public School Administration and as an art teacher for the Opportunity School.

Survivors include his mother, Marie Gourley Neal of Danville.

A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Gary Tucker and Samuel Massie officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 122 Dublin Court, Danville.

Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Neal

DANVILLE, Va. - Marvin Milton Neal, 95, formerly of 1840 Fall Creek Drive, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home. He had been in declining health for five years and a resident of Roman Eagle for a year.

Born April 10, 1903, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Elijah Neal and Nannie King Neal.

He lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County, where he was a retired construction worker and farmer. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was married in 1921 to Clara Lee Patterson Neal.

In addition to his wife, of Danville, survivors include five daughters, Lucy N. Williams of Barstow, Calif., Verler N. Murphy of Spencer, Nellie N. Wallace, Mamie N. Pruitt and Nannie N. Nevins, all of Danville; four sons, Harold Neal of Gladys, Avery Neal and Jack Neal, both of Danville and Johnny Neal of Ringgold; a sister, Betty N. Dalton of Danville; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. today from the graveside at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Michael J. Wiles officiating.

Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Newbill

NATHALIE, Va. - Willie Beatrice Conner Newbill, 84, of 1073 Depot Lane, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 16, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Luther Mills Conner and Annie Blount Conner.

She was married to James S. Newbill.

She was formerly a member of the Mount Laurel community and was a member of Mount Laurel Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Newbill of Richmond and Page Newbill of Nathalie; one daughter, Dolores Taylor of Richmond; one brother, Harold Conner of Scottsburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Mount Laurel Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Rice and the Rev. Rodney Barwick officiating. Burial will be in Clover cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James Pool

ALTON, Va. - James Carr Pool, 34, of 2244 Coleman Drive, died Saturday, March 6, 1999.

Born Sept. 20, 1964, in Halifax, he was the son of Heath Pool, who predeceased him, and Shirley R. Pool, who survives.

He was married to Susan Clark Pool, who survives.

He was employed by Universal Leaf Tobacco Co., where he was a plant superintendent at Southern Processors, Inc.

In addition to his wife of Alton and his mother of South Boston, survivors include one son, James V. Pool of Halifax; one stepson, Chris Owen of Danville; one sister, Ellen L. Pool of Richmond; and two brothers, Paul R. Pool of Rockingham, N.C., and Heath Pool Jr. of Richmond.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bob Fox and the Rev. Jim Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the residences of Rachel Clark, 301 McKinney St. and Shirley Pool, 1325 Willingham Ave., South Boston.

Minnie Wyatt

AXTON, Va. - Minnie McDaniel Wyatt, 85, of 629 Plantation Drive, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Born April 14, 1913, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Robert Lee McDaniel and Daisy Heffinger McDaniel.

She was married to Emory Forest "Bill" Wyatt, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice W. Wright of Martinsville; four sons, James L. Wyatt of Ringgold, Daniel M. Wyatt of Brosville, and Clifton R. Wyatt and Bob Wyatt, both of Martinsville; two brothers, Robert L. "Pee Wee" McDaniel of Axton and George McDaniel of North Carolina; three sisters, Madie M. Roach and Gladys M. Roach, both Axton, and Ruby M. Watson of Bassett; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother, Sam Henry McDaniel.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Norris Funeral Chapel, with burial following at the Wyatt Family cemetery, on Plantation Drive, Axton.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Janice Wright, at 906 Owens Road, Martinsville.

Ruby Harville

DANVILLE, Va. - Ruby N. Harville, 77, formerly of 220 Mount Olivet Lane, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.

Born April 10, 1921, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Charlie Norton and Ida Mills Norton.

She was married Sept. 14, 1940, to William Robert Harville, who predeceased her March 4, 1987.

Mrs. Harville lived most of her life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area where prior to her retirement she was employed with Dan River Inc. as a weaver. Mrs. Harville was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church, and was a member of the Widow's Club of the church, and a member of the Women's Missionary Circle No. 4, the Chapel Bible Class and the Dan River Retirement Organization.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda H. Yeatts, Betty H. Boswell and Colene H. Bryant, all of Danville; three son-in-laws, Carl T. Yeatts, Archie C. Boswell Jr. and Joel L. Bryant, all of Danville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harville was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Frederick J. Vicks officiating. Interment icon will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel and at other times at the residence of Mrs. Harville's daughter Colene Bryant, 248 Mount Olivet Lane.

Virginia Hudson

DRY FORK, Va. - Virginia Bennett Hudson, 74, 1444 W.I. Powell Road, died Tuesday morning March 9, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center of declining health for the past five years.

Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Mount Airy, N.C., she was the daughter of Jess Bennett and Liona Hall Bennett.

She married James Howard Hudson, who predeceased her.

She spent most of her life in the Bassett area and the Dry Fork community.

She was employed by Dan River, Inc. prior to her retirement.

Survivors include five sons, Harold W. Hudson of Providence, Donald L. Hudson and Terry L. Hudson, both of Dry Fork, and William R. Hudson of Danville and James E. Hudson of Beaufort, N.C.; one daughter, Betty H. Haymore of Dry Fork; one brother, Buster Bennett of Bassett; and two sisters, Marie McKinney of Bassett and Roberta Ganey of Stony Mill; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one son, Danny R. Hudson; one brother, Henry Bennett; and two sisters, Callie Craig and Myrtle Dalton.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today from Swicegood Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Dalton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hermon Brethren Church cemetery near Bassett.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
