Robert McDowell
DANVILLE, Va. - Robert B. McDowell, 77, of 402 North Ridge St., died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born August 29, 1921, in Cerro Gordo, N.C., he was the son of Lessie Bullock. He was a retired educator from the Danville Public Schools and owner of McDowell Bonding Service. He was a member of High Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Bryant Smith of Danville, and one sister, Sarah Bullock of Cerro Gordo.
Funeral services will be conducted noon Monday from High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. J.B. Morris officiating. Interment
and graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Tabor Memorial Gardens, Cerro Gordo.
A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 402 North Ridge St.
Charles Oliver
CHESTER, Pa. - The Rev. Charles Henry Oliver, 83, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
He was the associate pastor at First Baptist Church Fairview in Woodlyn the past nine years and a longtime member. Previously, he was a truck driver for Wilson Oil Co. He lived in Chester 60 years.
He was the son of Joel and Mattie Glass Oliver.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Oliver of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Kelvin Oliver of Chester; five daughters, Margaret Oliver, Shirley Johnson, Elizabeth Corbitt, Sylvia Ramey, and Jacobina Annette Priest, all of Chester; one sister, Rentha Gunter of Danville, Va.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 9 at First Baptist Church Fairview.
Fount Perkins
AXTON, Va. - Fount Thomas Perkins, 68, of 9108 Mt. Valley Road, died Friday, March 12, 1999, in the Beverly Health Care Center in Martinsville.
Born in Henry County on Oct. 9, 1930, he was the son of Fount Perkins Sr. and Mary Alice Penn Perkins.
He was married
to Lillian Perkins, who survives.
He was a retired employee of Miller Brewing Company and was a member of Mt. Valley Baptist Church in Axton, where he served on the board of deacons. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife of the residence; three sons, Jeffrey Perkins of Martinsville, Grady Perkins of Richmond and Thaddeus Perkins of the residence; three brothers, Willie Perkins of Detroit, Jerome Perkins of Eden, N.C., and James Perkins of Ridgely, Md.; two sisters, Mary E. Coleman of New York City and Shirley Hairston of Ridgeway; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ben Perkins.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from Mt. Valley Baptist Church by the Rev. Taylor Toliver. Interment
with military honors by American Legion Post #325 of Danville will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the residence.

Edna Allen
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. - Edna Maude Wilkerson Allen, 87, of 1213 Owens Ave., died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born June 4, 1911, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Will Wilkerson and Vergie Addis Wilkerson.
She was a homemaker and a member of South Boston Church of God.
She was married
to Lewis Eartt Allen, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one grandson, one granddaughter and two step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Earl B. Allen Sr.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Fox and the Rev. John Fariss officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
Lois Hatcher
SCOTTSBURG, Va. - Lois Lacks Hatcher, 69, of 2174 Easley Crossing Trail, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at her residence.
Born Aug. 7, 1929, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Charlie Henry Lacks and Nannie May Seamons Lacks.
She was a member of Mount Laurel United Methodist Church.
She was married
to Henry C. Hatcher, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two brothers, Roy H. Lacks of South Boston and Ralph B. Lacks of Scottsburg.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, in South Boston, with the Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in Scottsburg.

Irene Neal
DANVILLE, Va. - Irene Montgomery Neal, 89, formerly of 1545 Washington St., died Saturday evening, March 13, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center where she had resided for the past five years.
Born March 13, 1910, in Danville, she was the daughter of Walter J. Montgomery and Amanda Price Montgomery.
She had spent most of her life in Danville and was employed at Dan River Inc. She was the last surviving member of her generation of the family.
She was married
to William J. Neal, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a host of neices and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Duane Blevins officiating.

Kitty Nephew
DANVILLE, Va. - Kitty Bowles Nephew, 76, of 7011 Lakeview Terrace, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at her residence after declining in health for several months.
Born Dec. 11, 1922, in Patrick County, she was the daughter of Jesse C. Bowles and Ina Janes Bowles.
She had lived her adult life in California and then spent 13 years in Colorado before moving to Danville in 1991. She was a member of the New Life Community Church and was a licensed minister with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
She was married
to Eldon L. Nephew, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one foster daughter, Deborah L. Main of Anchorage, Alaska; and two brothers, Elder Roy W. Bowles of Winter Park, Fla., and Jesse Shelburne Bowles of Bassett.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Martinsville.

Sallie Parker
DANVILLE, Va. - Sallie Haley Parker, 86, of 1373 Vandola Church Road, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health for two months.
Born Jan. 10, 1913, in Danville, she was the daughter of Robert Haley and Mollie Eanes Haley.
She had lived in Eden, N.C., prior to moving to Danville in 1995 after the death of her husband. She had been a resident of Riverside Health Care Center since January. She attended the Brush Arbor Baptist Church.
She was married
to Robert Lee Parker, who died Jan. 9, 1995.
Survivors include one son, Bobby L. Parker of Danville; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Carrie Stanley
HALIFAX, Va. - Carrie Estelle Clay Stanley, 68, of 1005 Hall Trail, Lot No. 4, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born May 15, 1930, in Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Noell Duncan Clay and Virginia Bass Clay.
She was married
to Thomas Dewitt Stanley Jr.
Survivors include five sons, Frank Clay and Warren Conner, both of Halifax, Wayne Conner of Henderson, N.C., Ricky Conner of Danville and Micky Conner of Ringgold; five brothers, Noell Clay of Killean, Texas, and Overton Clay, Shirley Clay, Carl Clay and Larry Clay, all of South Boston; five sisters, Barbara Ann Whitt of Roxboro, N.C., Joan C. Duque of South Boston, and Christine Comer, Frances Clay and Rose N. Curry, all of Halifax; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fork Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Whitlow officiating.

Landon Towler Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Landon W. Towler Sr., 59, of 525 North Main St., died early Thursday morning, March 11, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 3, 1939, in Chatham, he was the son of Amil William Toler and Gladys Jones Toler.
He was a painter for Bernard Dalton Painting Contractors and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was married
to Ann Towler on June 22, 1970, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include four sons, Robert Clayton Towler of the residence, Ronnie Eugene Towler, Landon William Towler Jr. and Michael Lee Towler, all of Danville; one brother, Johnny B. Towler of Danville; four sisters, Florence T. Allen, Charletta R. Towler, Marie T. Hardy and Nadine T. Lanum, all of Danville; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one sister, Betty Jo Bailey.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Doug Barber officiating. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard at Highland Burial Park.
