Adele Motley
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Adele Walters Motley, 70, formerly of 610 Mount Cross Road, Carter Springs Apts., in Danville, Va., died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at the Coeur d'Alene Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Idaho after being in declining health for several years.
Born Jan. 23, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Theodore Vance Walters and Alma Hall Walters.
On April 17, 1948, she was married
to James Weldon Motley, who predeceased her.
She resided in Texas for 26 years before moving back to the Danville area in 1990. In 1997, she moved to Post Falls, Idaho, to live with her daughter. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a hairdresser. She was also a member of Shermont Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Ambrosetti, of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; a brother, Clyde Walters of Ringgold, Va., and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will held 2 p.m. Friday at Shermont Baptist Church in Danville, Va., with the Rev. Bill Soyars officiating.

Julia Riddle
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Julia Finney Riddle, 85, of 1528 Mulberry Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her daughter's residence, 1514 Mulberry Road.
Born Jan. 18, 1915 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Peter Thomas Finney and Minnie Alice Wright Finney.
She was married
to Clarence E. Riddle, who predeceased her.
She was a charter member of Chatham Heights Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Angeline R. Oakley, of Martinsville and Dorothy R. Hundley of Collinsville; a son, Douglas E. Riddle of Martinsville, a sister, Mabel Holley of Callands, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by four sisters, Mae Wells, Blanche Holley, Florence Marlowe and Earlene Marlowe and one brother, Averette Finney.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville with Minister J.D. Hunt, III and the Rev. Dale R. Dyar officiating.

Pauline Stinson
DANVILLE, Va. - Pauline Worley Stinson, 92, formerly of 241 Lady Astor Place and more recently of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Wednesday, March 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 27, 1907, in Roanoke, she was the daughter of Lewis Spurgeon Worley and Gay Beckner Worley.
She was married
to Julian Randolph Stinson for 62 years. He predeceased her on June 27, 1992.
She was a member of Mary Summers Garden Club, Lucille Rumney Sunday school class and the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Julian Randolph Stinson Jr. of Danville; a daughter, Jeanette Stinson Woods of Purley, N.C.; four sisters, Louise W. Aliff and Dorothy W. Hickman of Roanoke and Geraldine W. Boyd and Betty W. Heptinstal of Vinton; two brothers, James Worley of Martinsville and William Worley of Roanoke; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain View cemetery, with Dr. Joey Faucette officiating.
The family will be at the residence of J. Randy Stinson Jr., 206 Lady Astor Place.

John Worsley
CHARLESTON, S.C. - John Denny "Dee" Worsley, 40, of Charleston, S.C., died Monday, March 15, 1999, in the Charleston Memorial Hospital after three weeks of declining health.
Born on Oct. 18, 1958, he was the son of Mayo Mills Worsley Jr. and Anne Carter Worsley of Danville, Va.
He worked as a professional chef for a number of years.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include one son, Denny Hahn of Georgia; three brothers, Mayo Mills Worsley III of Danville, Va., Joel Pendleton Worsley of South Boston, Va., and Carter Waid Worsley of Chatham, Va. A memorial service will be held in Charleston at a later date.
Thelma Anderson
DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Buck Anderson, 79, of 200 James Road, formerly of Richmond, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999.
She was married
to Robert Thayer Anderson, who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1991.
Born June 8, 1919, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was the daughter of Mattie Boly Buck and Louie Thomas Buck.
She is survived by three daughters, Debra A Shaip of Danville, Saundra A. Upshaw of Iola, Kan., and Linda A. Lanier of Midlothian; one sister, Mary L. Porter of Wintersprings, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy B. Malvin, and one brother, Thomas J. Buck.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Woody Funeral Home, Midlothian. Interment
will be in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of her daughter, Linda Lanier, 2580 Chartstone Drive, Midlothian.
John Emerson
CHATHAM, Va. - John Henry Emerson, 68, of 281 Hillcrest Lane, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James I. Emerson and Eliza Brown Emerson. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy of Java.
Survivors include his wife, Lois M. Emerson of the residence; one son, John Kent Emerson of the residence; four sisters, Eliza Schwitzerlette of Beaver, W.Va., Nancy Schwitzerlette of Rosedale, Melinda Walden of Axton, and Lottie Shorter of Chatham.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Mae Baugh, and one brother, James Emerson.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy of Java, by the Rev. Edward Pope and the Rev. Clyde Crowder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Shirley Evans
DANVILLE, Va. - Shirley Brown Evans, 62, of 1297 Hunters Lane, Blairs, Va., died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 23, 1937, in Pelham, N.C., she was the daughter of Charlie and Bessie Dove Brown. She was married
June 28, 1958, to Roger E. Evans.
Shirley Evans was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, who lives at the residence; her mother, who lives in Blairs; her daughters Peggy E. Hughes and Delores E. Walker, both of Blairs; her son, Roger Nelson Evans of Blairs; her brothers, Roy Brown of Blairs and Howard Brown of Danville; her sister, Irene B. Dillard of Axton; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will take place 2 p.m. Sunday at Danville Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bill Soyars will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

"Granny" Haskins
CHATHAM, Va. - Edith Conner "Granny" Haskins, 77, of 1501 Old Mine Road, Chatham, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Henry Ezra Conner and Virgie Lawrence Conner.
She was a member of Greenbay Christian Church and was former manager of The Burger Bar.
She was married
to Herbert Gilmore Haskins, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Bernard Clay Haskins, Leonard Eugene Haskins and Herbert Neal Haskins; one brother, Milton Conner; and one sister, Estelle Haskins.
Haskins is survived by two sons, G. Wayne Haskins and Kenneth Haskins, both of Chatham; four daughters, Patsy Rowland and Cathy Haskins of Chatham, Hazel Roach of Gretna and Helen Roach of Hurt; 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenbay Christian Church by the Rudy A. Hearn, minister, John Shields, minister, and Frank Fuller, minister. Interment
will follow at Greenbay Christian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Warren Layne
LONG ISLAND, Va. - Warren George Layne, 77, of 4138 Buffalo Road, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.
Born in Pittsylvania County March 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Jimmy and Ora Lovelace Layne. He was preceded in death by four brothers Booker, Walter, Arby and Robert Layne as well as three sisters, Victoria Graves, Madeline Hubbard and Mary Madeline Layne.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by B.G.F. in Altavista. He was a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Mount Airy Male Chorus.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Layne, of the residence; a son, Jessie Layne of Nathalie, Va.; a daughter, Barbara Pannell of Brookneal, Va.; three brothers, James Layne of Gretna, Va., Jimmy Layne of Nathalie and Joe Layne of Long Island; five sisters, Erma Barbour of Gretna, Cora Barbour of Nathalie, Marie Patrick of Nathalie, Ruby Hall of Long Island, and Edith Watson of Newark, Del.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Airy Baptist Church in Gretna by the Rev. R.P. King. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
The body may be viewed Sunday afternoon from 1 to 8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home in Gretna.
Janice Lumpkin
DANVILLE, Va. - Janice Dunlap Lumpkin, 75, of 353 Orphanage Road, died Thursday March 18, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
Born July 4, 1923, in Montgomery, W. Va., Lumpkin was the daughter of Walter and Ruby Huddleston Dunlap. She married
Frank Meade Lumpkin January 1, 1949.
Lumpkin was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Danville. She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, who lives at the residence; her daughters, Deborah L. Ferrell of Danville and Sherry G. Lumpkin of Danville; her sister, Wanda Dunlap of Louisville, Ky.; and her brother, Robert Dunlap of Lebanon, Pa.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. The Rev. Scott Holcomb-McLain will officiate. Interment
will take place at Highland Burial Park.
