RICHMOND, Va. - Vernelle Locknan Nuckols of Richmond and Rondo, Va., died Friday, March 19, 1999.
She is survived by her husband, Edward R. Nuckols; her son, Albert W. Nuckols; and two grandchildren.
She was retired from Reynolds Metals. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Remains rest at Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond, where the family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, and where services will be held 11 a.m. Monday.
Interment will take place in Forest Lawn cemetery.
Laura Osborne
DANVILLE, Va. - Laura Adkins Osborne, 90, of 388 Blairs Circle, Blairs, Va., died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Roman Eagle Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 15, 1908 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Thenia Moore Adkins. She was married
to Bob Osborne, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Crocket, Willie, Ocie and Rufus Adkins.
Osborne was a member of Museville Christian Church.
She is survived by her son, Woodrow Osborne of Chatham; three daughters, Stella Tosh of Cascade, Va., Estelle Dawson of Nathalie, Va., and Happy Overton of Blairs, Va.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran chapel by the Rev. Rudy A. Hearn and the Rev. J.D. Hunt III. Interment
will follow in the Greenbay Christian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
John Vaughn Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - John Guill Vaughn Jr., 81, of 127 Kenilworth Ave. died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 18, 1918, he was a son of John Guill Vaughn Sr. and Agnes Fowler Vaughn.
Vaughn lived most of his life in the Danville area. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 1097 and the Pythian Club. He was also a charter member of Tuscarora Country Club.
He was formerly employed with Blackwell Motor Company as assistant service manager. He later was employed with First Virginia Bank South.
He was married
Oct. 21, 1939, to DeEtte Brown Vaughn, who survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Brenda V. Fulcher of High Point, N.C., and Barbara V. Jones of Danville; one brother, Frank Vaughn of Birmingham, Ala.; four sisters, Clarice V. Fitts of Raleigh, N.C., Peggy Loughman of Roswell, Ga., Edith V. Louhoff of Danville and Helen V. Aaron of Danville; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View cemetery. The Rev. George Neas will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
"Pops" Wuelfing
DANVILLE, Va. - John Henry "Pops" Wuelfing, 85, of 1800 Mount Cross Road, died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Nov. 11, 1913, in Ontario, N.Y., Wuelfing was the son of Charles Gustaf Wuelfing and Alexandra Wagner Wuelfing.
Wuelfing moved to Danville in 1969 from New Jersey. He owned and operated the Seven Oaks Trailer Park on Mount Cross Road, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was married
to Mabel Foersch Wuelfing Jan. 27, 1935.
He is survived by his wife, who lives at the residence; his daughters, Debbie W. Adams of Dry Fork, Joanne W. Oliver of New Jersey and Lori W. Brown, of Dry Fork; his sisters, Anne W. Getz of New Jersey, Lil W. Saunders of New Jersey and Amelia W. Reinhold of Florida; his brother, Tom Wuelfing of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ann W. Kuchinski; and five brothers, Charles, Pete Frank, Eddie and August Wuelfing.
A funeral will take place 12 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
The service will be officiated by Father Michael McGuire.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter, Debbie W. Adams, 13620 Mount Cross Road, Dry Fork.
Clarence Burton
BILOXI, Miss. - Clarence Bryant Burton, 51, of Gulfport, died Friday, March 19, 1999.
He was a son of Walter Burton and Thurva Sharp Burton.
A resident of the Gulf Coast since 1968, Burton graduated from Halifax High School, Halifax County, Va. in 1967. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam for the U.S. Navy. He was a former employee of the DuPont plant in Gulfport.
He is survived by his wife, Suzette Lewis Burton, of Gulfport; his son, Bryan Kirk Supak, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; his granddaughter, Raven Kelsey Supak of Dover, Del.; three brothers, Robert B. Burton of Blanche, N.C., Harris Burton of Danville, Va., and Benny Wayne Burton, of Halifax, Va.; and two sisters, Annie Evelyn Burton of Nathalie, Va., and Vera Gay Burton of Lynchburg, Va.
Visitation will take place today from 5-8 p.m. at Riemann Funeral Home on Highway 49 North in Gulfport.
A funeral service will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Biloxi National cemetery.
Bill Cook
DANVILLE, Va. - Bill Cook, 56, of 434 Wyatt Drive, died Friday evening March 19, 1999 at Danville Regional Medical Center after declining in health for a number of years.
Born in Danville June 10, 1942, he was a son of the late Charles S. Cook and Lillian Williams Cook, who survives.
He was married
to Corky Cook, who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War.
He spent most of his life in the Danville area. He worked as an electrician for Carolina Power and Light before retiring.
In addition to his mother, who lives in Danville, and his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son, David W. Cook of Port Arthur, Texas; a brother, the Rev. Charles Cook of Warsaw; and two sisters, Jackie East of Mobile, Ala., and Judy Burnett of Cascade, Va.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jack Robertson. The family will receive friends at the residence in the Mount Hermon community. Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Evans
BLAIRS, Va. - Shirley Brown Evans, 62, of 1297 Hunters Lane, Blairs, Va., died Friday, March 19, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 23, 1937, in Pelham, N.C., she was the daughter of Charlie and Bessie Dove Brown. She was married
June 28, 1958, to Roger E. Evans.
Shirley Evans was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, who lives at the residence; her mother, who lives in Blairs; her daughters Peggy E. Hughes and Delores E. Walker, both of Blairs; her son, Roger Nelson Evans of Blairs; her brothers, Roy Brown of Blairs and Howard Brown of Danville; her sister, Irene B. Dillard of Axton; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will take place 2 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Bill Soyars will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

'Granny' Haskins
CHATHAM, Va. - Edith Conner "Granny" Haskins, 77, of 1501 Old Mine Road, Chatham, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Henry Ezra Conner and Virgie Lawrence Conner.
She was a member of Greenbay Christian Church and was former manager of The Burger Bar.
She was married
to Herbert Gilmore Haskins, who predeceased her.
She is survived by two sons, G. Wayne Haskins and Kenneth Haskins, both of Chatham; four daughters, Patsy Rowland and Cathy Haskins of Chatham, Hazel Roach of Gretna and Helen Roach of Hurt; and two sisters, Leona Fuqua of Lynchburg and Mildred Dalton of Altavista, 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by three sons, Bernard Clay Haskins, Leonard Eugene Haskins and Herbert Neal Haskins; one brother, Milton Conner; and one sister, Estelle Haskins.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Greenbay Christian Church by the Rudy A. Hearn, minister, John Shields, minister, and Frank Fuller, minister. Interment
will follow at Greenbay Christian Church cemetery.

James Kidd
DANVILLE, Va. - James Milton Kidd, 87, of 101 Verne St., died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at his home.
Born Aug. 13, 1911 in Martinsville (Figsboro community), he was the son of William Marshall Kidd and Mary Elizabeth Wingfield Kidd.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva Adkins Kidd; a daughter, Joan Richards; a son, Bobby Ray Kidd; and several brothers and sisters. He was retired from Burlington Industries.
He is survived by his wife, Viola McDaniel Kidd of the residence; one daughter, Brenda Kay Hammock of Martinsville; two sons, Douglas Kidd and Wayne Kidd of Martinsvile; one step-daughter, Jeanette Gover Goodson of Danville; two step-sons, Roger Gover and George Gover of Danville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, with burial in Roselawn Burial Park.

Janice D. Lumpkin
DANVILLE, Va. - Janice Dunlap Lumpkin, 75, of 353 Orphanage Road, died Thursday March 18, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after one year of declining health.
Born July 4, 1923, in Montgomery, W. Va., Lumpkin was the daughter of Walter and Ruby Huddleston Dunlap. She married
Frank Meade Lumpkin January 1, 1949.
Lumpkin was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Danville. She was a member of Grace Design United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, who lives at the residence; her daughters, Deborah L. Ferrell of Danville and Sherry G. Lumpkin of Danville; her sister, Wanda Dunlap of Louisville, Ky.; and her brother, Robert Dunlap of Lebanon, Pa.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. The Rev. Scott Holcomb-McLain will officiate. Interment
will take place at Highland Burial Park.
