Jimmie McGregor
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Jimmie A. McGregor, 55, of Millington, Tenn., died of respiratory failure Friday, March 19, 1999 at Methodist Hospital North.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, McGregor was retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief, E-8, Fleet Reserve. He also worked for the United States Department of Agriculture's Cotton Division.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McGregor; his mother, Mildred Moorefield of Danville, Va.; his sister, Lacy Barker of Danville; his brother, Aubrey McGregor of Richmond, Va.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel in Millington. Burial will follow at Northridge Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Millington.
Memorial contributions should be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Dr. E. Fulton Neal
LEESBURG, Va. - Dr. Ernest Fulton Neal, age 78, died Saturday morning, March 20, 1999 in Leesburg.
He was born in Danville, Va., on August 18, 1921, a son of Ernest Linwood Neal and Kathleen Fulton Neal.
Dr. Neal attended the University of Virginia, and received his D.D.S. from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and the Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity. He was a Fellow and Life Member of the Virginia Dental Association. Dr. Neal had practiced dentistry in Danville for 45 years, retiring in 1994.
In 1995, he moved to Leesburg, Va., where he was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church.
While in Danville, he was an active member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, the Danville Kiwanis Club, the Dan River Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Danville Golf Club.
Dr. Neal served as an Army infantryman in World War II and served as an Air Force Lieutenant in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Emerson Neal of Leesburg, Va.; two daughters, Kathleen Neal Dawson of Paeonian Springs, Va., and Laura Fulton Neal of Washington, D.C.; one brother, George William Neal of Huntsville, Ala.; two granddaughters, Lucy Carter Dawson and Martha Louise Dawson; and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Dana Hunt. Interment
will be in Mountain View cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Monday night from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Franklin Poteat
WEST YANCEYVILLE, Va. - James Franklin "Doodle" Poteat, 84, of 3145 U.S. Highway 158 West died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Brian Nursing Center, Yanceyville. He had been in declining health for several months. He was born in Caswell County Aug. 19, 1914 to the late Willie F. Poteat and Nannie Murray Poteat.
He was a retired automobile salesman with Caswell Motor Company for 26 years and a veteran of the Army Air Force who served in the Philippines during World War II.
He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Central Caswell Ruritan Club and American Legion Post 89.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Doris Neighbors.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Murray Poteat, and two sisters, Mattie Lee Poteat Meadows and Helen Poteat Carter.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Prospect United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jack Ruth. Interment
will be in the church cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be held 7-8:30 today at Hooper Funeral Home.
George Womack
BRUNSWICK, Ga. - George Treacy Womack, 72, died Saturday, March 20, 1999 at his residence.
A native of Cheraw, S.C., Womack lived in Danville, Va., from 1949 to 1997, when he moved to Brunswick. A veteran of World War II, he graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Clemson University. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Danville, a charter member of Knights of Columbus #6143 and past president of the Danville Sertoma Club.
Womack was retired from the Dan River Inc. Research Department and from King of the Sea restaurant. He was a member of Saint Francis Catholic Church.
He is survived by two brothers, Pat Womack and Tom Womack of Brunswick.
Visitation will take place 7:30-9 p.m. today at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Hobbs, Bev Blount, Dewitt Dixon, Tom Keefe, Donnie Hattaway and D.L. McKenzie. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hospice of Golden Isles, J.C. and Doris Griner, the Rev. and Mrs. James W. Woods, and the Rev. Ken Newmann and Nancy Newmann.

Iva Corn
DANVILLE, Va. - Iva Peters Corn, 89, of 128 Rockford Place, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a decline in health for several years.
Born April 4, 1909, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of Edward Peters and Eliza Peters Peters.
She had lived most of her life in Danville. She retired in 1972 from Dan River Inc. Riverside Division where she had worked as a battery filler in the weave room with more than 40 years of service. She was a charter member of the Baptist Tabernacle.
She was married
to James Jerome Corn, who predeceased her in 1956.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty C. Price, Joyce C. Watson and Nancy C. Cassada, all of Danville; one son, John R. Corn of Danville; two stepsons, Jack Corn of Rocky Mount and William Corn of Douglasville, Ga.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by six sisters and one brother.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. R.J. Barber Jr., the Rev. Freddie Vicks and the Rev. Walter Yancey officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence. Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Harvey Richardson
HAMPTON, Va. - James Harvey Richardson, 69, died Friday, March, 19, 1999.
Born April 16, 1929, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Nathaniel B. Richardson and Minnie Ethel Daye.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in the Richardson Family cemetery.
Clara Wonner
GRETNA, Va. - Clara Beatrice Dalton Talbott Wonner, 84, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at Gretna Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 1, 1914, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Lonnie Felix Dalton and Molly Ramsey Chumley Dalton.
She was a member of Round Pond Baptist Church and a retired seamstress with HampCo.
Survivors include one son, Felix Victor Wonner of Greensboro, N.C.; four daughters, Edith Keatts and Joan Farmer of Hurt, Janet Matherly of Chatham and Patricia Wonner Hammock of Danville; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Loutricia Sue Wonner.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Colbert-Moran Chapel with the Rev. Bert Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Motley United Methodist Church cemetery.

John Rawley
RICHMOND, Va. - John Rufus Rawley of Richmond died Wednesday, March 17, 1999.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Moore Rawley.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn R. Scott of Richmond; one son, J. Stewart Rawley of Annapolis, Md.; two brothers, Col. W. Franklin Rawley and Albert K. Rawley; two sisters, Louise R. Ogden and Mary Lee Rawley; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church. A private burial will follow.

Alice Griggs
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Alice Pendelton Griggs, 100, died Friday night, March 19, 1999, in St. Anthony's Hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1898, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of George K. Griggs and Alice Winston Boatwright Griggs.
She was a dietitian in Wayne, Pa. until her retirement in 1950. She has been a resident of St. Petersburg, Fla. for the past 30 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She was the last surviving member of her generation.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Green Hill cemetery with the Rev. Robert Hosmer officiating.

Harold Murphy Sr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Harold W. Murphy Sr., 75, of 520 Parkland Dr., died Sunday morning, March 21, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health for several months.
Born Feb. 8, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Herman N. Murphy and Ivy Yates Murphy.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church where he served as secretary of his Sunday school class. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Club and the Walking Club of Piedmont Mall. He worked in elevator construction with Thyssen Elevator Co. until his retirement.
On Nov. 13, 1951, he married
Belva Francisco Murphy, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Harold Woodrow Murphy Jr. and Wade Keith Murphy, both of Danville; one sister, Virginia M. Mustain of Danville; one brother, Roy E. Murphy of Danville; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Davis and the Rev. Avery Marshall officiating.
Graveside military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at his son's residence, 689 Jenny Lane.
