CHATHAM, Va. - Joseph Donovan DeHart, 72, of 2668 Hodnett Mill Road, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1926, in Bland County, he was the son of Harvey Oakley DeHart and Mary Donovan DeHart.
He was a Veteran of World War II.
He was married
to Rebecca Merrill DeHart, who survives.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Scott Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Earl officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Mildred Jones
HAMPTON, Va. - Mildred H. Jones, 84, of 711 Westwood Ave., died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Sentera Hampton General Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Thomas Hood and Mary Saunders Hood.
She was married
to Lawson Jones, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Farmer of Hampton; one son, Alvin Lee Jones, of Danville; one sister, Teya Mae Barksdale of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Ray Hood of Sutherlin and James Hood of Danville.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Apostolic Faith Temple Holiness Church with Bishop W.A. Watkins officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence of James Hood, 436 Williams Dr., Danville.

Jimmie McGregor
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Jimmie A. McGregor, 55, of Millington, Tenn., died of respiratory failure Friday, March 19, 1999 at Methodist Hospital North.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, McGregor was retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief, E-8, Fleet Reserve. He also worked for the United States Department of Agriculture's Cotton Division.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McGregor; his mother, Mildred Moorefield McGregor of Danville, Va.; his sister, Lacy Barker of Danville; his brother, Aubrey McGregor of Richmond, Va.; and his nieces Cindy Shelton and Ellen Hargis, both of Danville.
A funeral service was held Monday at the Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel in Millington. Burial followed at Northridge Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Millington.
Memorial contributions should be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today at the chapel at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville.
Ella Meredith
DANVILLE, Va. - Ella Levett Meredith, 83, of 419 East Thomas St., died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at her residence.
Born Dec. 19, 1915, in Red Springs, N.C., she was the daughter of Louis C. Levett and Mary Katherine Levett.
Moving to Danville in the late 1950s, she was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church. She was retired from Dan River Mills Inc., where she worked in No. 5 spin, Riverside Division.
She was married
to Otis Haskel Meredith, who predeceased her.
Survivors include one son, William Webb, of the residence; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Hall officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Annie Shelton
RINGGOLD, Va. - Annie Holmes Shelton, 92, formerly of Brookneal, died Sunday night, March 21, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville.
Born Nov. 19, 1906, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of James William Shelton and Emma Glass Shelton.
She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Marie Shelton of Danville.
She was predeceased by one sister, Nannie S. Evans; and two brothers, Oscar Shelton and Jesse Shelton.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Henderson Funeral Home, Brookneal, with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Methodist Church cemetery.

Johnnie Elliott
HALIFAX, Va. - Johnnie B. Elliott, 74, of 1057 High View Road, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 18, 1924, in Halifax County, he was the son of Otis Scott Elliott and Mamie Farmer Elliott.
He was married
to Ellen Ferrell Elliott. He was a member and deacon of Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ, a member of American Legion Post No. 8, Halifax Masonic Lodge No. 96 AM&FM, Halifax Sportsman's Club, Wilson Memorial Ruritan Club and the Halifax County Planning Commission. He was retired from Massey Ferguson.
In addition to his wife, of Halifax, survivors include a daughter, Ann E. Lucas of Culpeper; a son, John B. Elliott of Sterling; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove United Church of Christ with the Rev. Carl Hudson and the Rev. John Wilder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with masonic and military rites.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston and at other times at the residence.
Ola Gibbs
DANVILLE, Va - Ola Ashby Gibbs, 92, formerly of 215 Church St., died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after eight years of declining health.
Born March 14, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Ashby and Allie Pruitt Ashby.
She was married
to Robert H. Gibbs, who predeceased her Jan. 26, 1979.
She has resided in Danville most of her life and was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church. She has been a resident of Riveside Health Care Center for the past eight years.
She was predeceased by three sisters Jewel A. Hardy, Lucille A. Hawker and Irene A. Shelton; one son, Ashby Gibbs; and one brother Artie Ashby.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Felton S. Carter and the Rev. George Rumney officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.

ETTRICK, Va. - Dr. David Vincent Gibson, 75, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 10, 1923, in Fauquier County.
Survivors include one daughter Virginia Gibson of Newport News, Va.; three sons, David Gibson Jr., of Atlanta, James Gibson of Calverton, and Dr. Sandy Gibson of Midlothian, Va; two brothers, Thomas Gibson and Marshall Gibson, both of Calverton, Va; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be noon Friday at First Baptist Church, Harrison Street, in Petersburg.

Nathaniel Moore Jr.
DANVILLE, Va. - Nathaniel Moore Jr., 48, of 129 White St., died Monday, March 22, 1999, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1950, in Danville, he was the son of Nathaniel Moore Sr. and Alfrieda Moore.
He was employed with the Danville Register & Bee for many years.
In addition to his mother, survivors include a daughter, Yolanda Wharton of Danville; a son, Calvin Wharton of Danville; a sister, Robin Davila of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a brother, Perry Moore of Danville; four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother at 1010 Washington St. and at the residence.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with Dr. J.P. Griffith officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
