Thelma Oakes
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. - Thelma Woody Oakes, 92, of 2058 Cherry Hill Church Road, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Berry Hill Nursing Home.
Born April 2, 1906, in Person County, N.C., she was the daughter of James David Woody and Ellen Pulliam Woody.
She was married
to Harold Cook Oakes who predeceased her.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one grandson, John T. "Johnny" Oakes Jr. of Scottsburg; two step grandsons, Gary T. Jones of Richmond, and Randy B. Jones of Nathalie; and one daughter-in-law, Vernell B. Oakes of South Boston; two great-grandchldren and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husand, she was predeceased by one son, John Tinsley "Jack" Oakes; one sister Annie W. McCraw; four brothers Julain E. Woody, James W. Woody, Walter W. Woody, and George F. Woody.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Lewis and the Rev. Grover Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Cherry Hill United Methodist Church cemetery, South Boston, Va.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
O. Lloyd Parsons
WYTHEVILLE, Va. - O. Lloyd Parsons, 93, of Asbury Center at Birdmont, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999.
Born Nov. 18, 1905, in Cloverland, Wash., he was a son of James T. Parsons and Annie Vaught Parsons.
He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1928 and was a school teacher for several years in Washington and Grayson counties. In 1939, he joined the Carnation Milk Co. in Galax, where he was employed until his retirement in 1969. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galax.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Ellis Parsons; and his brother, L. Gwyn Parsons.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judith (Lou) and William H. Collins of Blacksburg; his daughter, Peggy Honeycutt of Danville; brother, J. Bronson Parsons of Bel Aire, Md.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. today at Vaughan Guynn Funeral Home in Galax.
A graveside service will be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church, Elk Creek, 11 a.m. Friday.

Michael Robinson
BLAIRS, Va. - Michael Charles Robinson, 41, of 9448 U.S. 29, died Monday, March 22, 1999, from injuries suffered in a car accident.
Born Oct. 29, 1957, in Orange, N.J., he was the son of Donald Robinson and Lena Merricks Robinson.
He lived most of his life in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area, where, prior to his death, he was employed at Columbia Forest Products. He was of the Christian faith.
He was married
to Jennie LouAnn Robinson.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Sam Robinson of South Charleston, West Virginia; a daughter, Jerusha Robinson of Danville; two brothers, Donnie Robinson of Blairs and Dudley Robinson of Yuba City, Calif.; and his father.
A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Mike Hearp officiating.
Annie Shelton
RINGGOLD, Va. - Annie Holmes Shelton, 92, formerly of Brookneal, died Sunday night, March 21, 1999, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Danville.
Born Nov. 19, 1906, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of James William Shelton and Emma Glass Shelton.
She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Marie Shelton of Danville, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister, Nannie S. Evans; and two brothers, Oscar Shelton and Jesse Shelton.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Henderson Funeral Home, Brookneal, with the Rev. Carl Burger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Methodist Church cemetery.

John Toller
CHATHAM, Va. - John Arthur "Buddy" Toller, 75, of 1261 Mill Creek Road, died Tuesday morning, March 23, 1999, in Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Henry Toller and Pearl Carter Toller.
He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and attended Bibleway Worldwide Church and Shockoe Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Richmond Cedar Works of Danville. He was twice married
, first to Evelyn Wooding and later to Elsie Toller, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Toller and Peggy Toller, both of Baltimore; one son, Jerry Toller of Chatham; two stepdaughters, Mae Minter of Chatham and Edith Knight of Norfolk; four brothers, Hobson Toller, Clarence Toller and James Toller, all of Danville, and Mock Toller of Arlington; two sisters, Pearl Drayston of Englewood, N.J., and Dorothy King of Danville; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Wayne and Jimmy Toller; six brothers, Joe, Vincent, Eugene, Jimmy, Earnest and Garry Toller; and two sisters, Maddie and Gladys.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from Shockoe Baptist Church with the Rev. G.H. Pass officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Barker
DANVILLE, Va. - Mary Hutchens C. Barker, 76, of 49 Hylton Ave., died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Barker was born on Oct. 18, 1922, in Danville, Va., the daughter of Joseph David Hutchens and Tina Searcy Hutchens.
She was retired from Dan River Mills after 42 years working in the 1A Weave Room. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Barker is survived by two sons, William David Clark and James G. Clark, both of Keeling; and two grandchildren Cheryl Clark of Danville and Joseph M. Clark of Keeling.
She was predeceased by one sister Lillian Hutchens Huffman.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 27, 1999, 11 a.m. at Schoolfield cemetery. The Rev. Jeffrey E. Hopkins will be conducting the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, William David Clark, 1601 Bennett Circle, Keeling.

Anne Dix
ROANOKE, Va. - Anne C. Dix, 82, formerly of 107 Canterbury Road, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 1999. She had been in declining health for the past six years.
Born June 26, 1916, in Danville, Va., she was the daughter of Guiseppi and Santa Matone Ciadelli, both deceased.
She lived in Danville most of her life and was retired from the office of Dan River Mills. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She was married
to Ernest Dix Jr., in September 1938, who passed away in August 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Jo Anne Dix Boone of Roanoke, and son-in-law, Len Boone; two grandchildren, J. Alexander Boone and E. Ben Boone, both of Roanoke; and two sisters, Mrs. Jo Giles and Dr. Lanny Hampel, both of Norfolk.
Swicegood Funeral Home will handle the arrangements.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Highland Burial Park by Father David McGuire.
William "Mac" Evans
DANVILLE, Va. - William "Mac" Evans, 67, of 213 Scales St., died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center of declining health since 1984.
Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Danville, he was the son of Joseph Evans and Ivie Evans.
He was married
Oct. 5, 1958, to Helen Moyer Evans, who survives.
He lived his life in the Danville area and prior to his retirement in 1984, he was emplyed with Deluca Valve. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three sons, Dennis R. Evans of Manassas, Kenneth L. Evans of Danville, and Rick Evans of California; one daughter Carol Evans Reynolds of Danville; one brother Frank A. Evans of Maggie Valley, N.C.; one sister Frances E. Hullam of Tulsa, Okla., and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Ola Gibbs
DANVILLE, Va. - Ola Ashby Gibbs, 92, formerly of 215 Church St., died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center after eight years of declining health.
Born March 14, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Ashby and Allie Pruitt Ashby.
She was married
to Robert H. Gibbs, who predeceased her Jan. 26, 1979.
She has resided in Danville most of her life and was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church. She has been a resident of Riverside Health Care Center for the past eight years.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth A. Walton Hall of Danville.
She was predeceased by three sisters Jewel A. Hardy, Lucille A. Hawker and Irene A. Shelton; one son, Ashby Gibbs; and one brother Artie Ashby.
A funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Felton S. Carter and the Rev. George Rumney officiating. Interment
will be in Highland Burial Park.
Margaret Kunzelman
DANVILLE, Va. - Margaret Williams Kunzelman, of 128 Confederate Ave., died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at Riverside Health Care Center.
She was married
to Charles Kunzelman, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two nephews W. Fred Hughes Jr. of Danville and J. Clifton Hughes of Derby, Kan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Father David V. McGuire officiating. Internment will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gates of Heaven cemetery in Silver Springs, Md.
