Annie Caskey

DANVILLE, Va. - Annie Thomas Caskey, 78, of 1760 Richmond Blvd., died early Tuesday morning, March 30, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.

She was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Lancaster, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Sulie Moore Thomas.

She was married to John L. Caskey, who predeceased her March 21, 1984.

She spent most of her life in Danville where she worked for Dan River Inc. and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Foster of Florida; one brother, Dan Thomas of Lancaster, S.C.; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one son, Robert "Bob" Caskey.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. today at Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, S.C., with the Rev. Clyde Earles and the Rev. Link Earles officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Inez Hogue

HALIFAX, Va. - Inez Petty Hogue, 77, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston.

She was born May 13, 1921, in Halifax County.

Survivors include one son, Benjamin Hogue of Ashville, N.C.; five brothers, Linwood Petty and Joe Petty, both of Halifax, Edward Petty of New York City, N.Y., Harvey Petty and Cecil Petty, both of Philadelphia, Pa; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. today at County Line Baptist Church in Vernon Hill with the Rev. Otis Dillard officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.

There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1064 Grubby Road, Halifax.

Crawford, Garrett and Burton Funeral Services, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

William Saunders, Sr.

DANVILLE, Va. - William Otis Saunders Sr., 75, of 125 Mac Road, died at his residence early Wednesday morning, March 31, 1999, after three months of declining health.

Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of William Ashford "Bill" Saunders and Fannie Jones Saunders.

He was married to Nellie Weeks Saunders, who survives.

He spent most of his life in the Danville area. He was a member of Forest Lawn Baptist Church and the Men's Bible class. He was also a former deacon and usher.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a long distance truck driver with Fleming Transfer for 23 years. He retired from Pepsi Cola after 20 years of service.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Kathy Saunders Webb of Gloucester; one foster daughter, Jo Ann S. Walker of Newport News; three brothers, James Saunders of Gretna, James Rust of Chatham and Shirley Saunders of Hurt; four sisters, Kathleen Dunbar and Ruby Megginson, both of Danville, Irene Harding and Jean Taylor, both of Altavista; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, William Otis "Mac" Saunders Jr.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Homer Bowman and the Rev. Gilmer Setliff officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Victor Snow

FOREST, Va. - Victor Arnold Snow, 82, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at St. John's Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 29, 1916, in Bedford County, he was the son of John Alexander Snow and Sally Shelton Snow.

He was married to Rebecca Taylor Snow, who survives.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Eaton Manufacturing.

In addition to his wife of Forest, survivors include one son, John Snow of Orland Park, Ill.; one daughter, Vicki Ritchie of Forest; two brothers, Cloy Snow of Gretna and Landon Snow of Spring Garden; three sisters, Iva McGregor of Java, Frances Watlington of Danville and Catherine Owen of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Kay Holmes.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Shelton and the Rev. Jess Staton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of his brother-in-law, Ramsey Taylor, 540 Red Hawk Lane, Gretna.

James Aldredge Jr.

DANVILLE, Va. - James Henry Aldredge Jr., formerly of 144 Clarendon Circle, died Thursday afternoon, April 1, 1999, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.

Born May 8, 1917, in Danville, he was the son of James Henry Aldredge and Bessie Wagner Aldredge.

He was educated in Danville Public Schools graduated from George Washington High School in 1937. He earned a bachelor of science in business administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1941, and in 1971, earned a masters of education in vocational education at the same institution. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1941, and served with the 14th anti-aircraft command in the South-West Pacific and was promoted to major and detailed inspector general.

He joined Danville Industries Inc. in 1947, and was elected secretary-treasurer in 1958, until retiring in 1965.

He became Industrial Cooperative Training Coordinator in Petersburg with the Virginia Public Schools in 1965, and in 1967, became vocational guidance counselor at Petersburg High School until retiring in 1982.

He was a former secretary-treasurer of the Danville Jaycees, a former member of the Danville American Legion Post No. 325, the Danville Golf Club, the Euclid Royal Arch Chapter 15, Dove Commander No. 7, Knight Templar, the Danville Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Acca Temple of the Shrine. He was a member of the Roman Eagle Lodge No. 122 A.F. and A.M. where he was a past master and former trustee. He was a former assistant secretary of the board of directors of the Masonic Building Corporation, former secretary of the board of directors and executive committee of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, a former member of the Danville Host Lions Club and the Petersburg Lions Club.

While at V.P.I., he was an officer in the Corps of Cadets, served as secretary-treasurer of the German Club, member of Scabbard and Blade, a national military fraternity, Omerican Delta Kappa, a national leadership fraternity; the Honor Court and the Y.M.C.A. Cabinet. He was also a former member of the V.P.I. Alumni Association and was past president of the Danville Area Alumni Association.

He was also a member and former official board member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Danville. An affiliate member and former official board member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg. Between 1947 and 1977, he taught junior and senior high school students in church school classes at Calvary and Washington Street. After the closing of Calvary United Methodist Church, he moved his membership to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, Danville, in 1989.

He was predeceased by his sister, Margarette Miriam Aldredge and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Jay Ashby officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge No. 122.

Robert Baker Jr.

RICHMOND, Va. - Robert "Rachie" Baker Jr., 72, of 5005 Old Midlothian Turnpike, died Thursday afternoon, April 1, 1999, at the Ashland Convalescent Home, Ashland, after a 10-year decline in health.

Born April 16, 1926, in Henderson, N.C., he was the son of Robert H. Baker Sr. and Ella Fuller Baker.

He was married to Ramona Isbell Baker, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He returned to Schoolfield High School and graduated in 1951. He spent most of his life in Danville and Richmond where he worked in construction. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1097.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter Vikki Comeaux of South Line, Mich.; four brothers, Charlie Baker of Memphis, Tenn., Frank Baker of Chula Vista, Calif., Eddie Baker and Bobby Baker, both of Danville; and one grandchild.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Dousey Elmo Baker and Grover C. Baker and two sisters, Gladys Baker and Catherine Baker Furgurson.

A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Schoolfield cemetery with the Rev. Ralph E. McCormack officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother, Eddie Baker, 218 Cline St.

Swicegood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Janice Beadles

DANVILLE, Va. - Janice Dalton Beadles, 49, of 264 Bowe St., died Thursday, April 1, 1999, after 18 months of declining health.

Born March 17, 1950, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Bennett Dalton and Ethel Prevette Dalton, who survives.

She was married Sept. 18, 1997, to Timothy Doss Beadles, who survives.

She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church, and she attended Central Boulevard Church of God. She lived most of her life in the Bachelors Hall community of Pittsylvania County. She worked for Wal-Mart as a manager of the shoe department.

In addition to her mother of Danville, and husband of the residence, survivors include one son, James W. Goggin Jr. of Ringgold; one daughter, April Noel Goggin of Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, Marvin B. Dalton Jr. of Ruffin, N.C., Dowin Taz Dalton of Danville, and Roger Wayne Dalton of Lynchburg; one sister, Carolyn Sue Touchstone of Danville; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. John Meadows and the Rev. Lee VonEime officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the chapel and at other times at the residence of her mother, 136 Bowe St., off 58 West.

Juanita Hayden

DRY FORK, Va. - Juanita McCuistion Hayden, 85, of 184 W. Sunrise Drive, died Wednesday afternoon, March 31, 1999, at Danville Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health and a one-week stay in the hospital.

She was born in Olney, Texas, on Sept. 7, 1913, a daughter of Horace McCuistion and Vista Reagle McCuistion.

She was married to Charles A. Hayden, who survives. She had spent most of her life in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County, where she was a homemaker and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.

Survivors in addition to her husband of the residence include one son, William B. McNeely of Burleson, Texas; two sisters, Mary Young and Jean Edwards, both of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Donald McCuistion, Darwin McCuistion, and Bobby McCuistion, all of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert Carty. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home at the residence.

Thomas Holland Jr.

ROME, Ga. - Thomas Hunter Holland Jr., 44, of 804 East 19th St., died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Floyd County Medical Center.

Born Nov. 8, 1954, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the Thomas Hunter Holland Sr. and Annetta Lovelace Holland, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division, and was a member of the National Guard. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, and employed by Zartic Corporation as safety officer in Rome for six years. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include three sisters, JoAnne Holland of Charlottesville, Va., Susan H. Scott of Rome, and Martha H. Bohannon of Halifax, Va.; and one brother, Paul H. Holland of Christiansburg, Va.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. George Neas and the Rev. Curtis English officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his mother, 145 Arnett Blvd. Apt. D11.
