Aretta Perkins Terry

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Aretta Perkins Terry, 81, of Brian Center in Eden, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at Brian Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Terry was born in Rockingham County to the late Elizah and Minnie Sue Huskey Perkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Living God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Edgar Terry, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Marvin J. "Rusty" Terry and wife Pamela of Reidsville, Rena "Sissy" Watkins and husband Tommy of Mayodan, Ricky Terry and wife Elizabeth of Eden, Rhonda Terry Roach and Ernie of Sutherlin, Va., Rodger Edgar Terry and wife Charlotte of Eden; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Mattie Sue Alexander, Louise Simpson and Magiline Equils.

The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Friday, January 31, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Other times the family will be at 150 Blair Drive, Reidsville, NC 27320.

Amy Barton

DANVILLE, Va. - Amy Elizabeth Barton, 26, of 135 Reuben Court, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center following a battle with Scleroderma.

Born May 9, 1976 in Danville, she was the daughter of Edgar W. Barton and Virginia Doss Barton, who survive.

She was a member of the Scleroderma Foundation and of the Baptist faith. She lived all of her life in Danville and worked at Sears as a salesperson and was an honor graduate from George Washington High School, class of 1994.

She is survived, in addition to her parents of the residence, by one brother, Jeffrey W. Barton of Victoria.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Danville Memorial Gardens with Dr. Samuel Greeson officiating.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel and at other times at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Scleroderma Foundation.

Gertrude T. Botts-Elliot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Gertrude Tallent Botts-Elliot died on May 26, 2002 in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was born Aug. 21, 1917 in Lenoir City, Tenn., the daughter of A.J. and Martha Tallent.

She was married to Crosby Botts, who predeceased her.

She lived much of her life in the Mount Hermon area of Pittsylvania County and worked for Dan River Inc. She was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.

Survivors include her spouse, Robert Elliot; daughter, Barbara Sue Cole Aherron of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughters, Nicole Aherron of Jacksonville, Fla. and Renee Aherron Soldatie and husband, Antonio; great-grandson Jean Luc Soldatie of Antwerp, Belgium; and numerous friends in Danville.

A memorial service will be held in Lenoir City, Tenn.

The National Crematory Society of Florida is in charge of arrnagements.

The family suggests memorials be made to The National Transplant Assistance Fund, "A new liver for Bill Locklair," 3475 W. Chester Pike, Suite 230, Newton Square, Pa. 19023.

Eleanor Cannon

DANVILLE, Va. - Eleanor Reagan Cannon, 87, of 2526 North Main Street, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.

Born August 16, 1914 in Glens Falls, N.Y., she was a daughter of Henry T. Reagan and Ella Roussea Reagan.

She was married to John Thomas Cannon, who predeceased her. She had lived in Palm Beach, Fla. where she had worked as a real estate agent and was a nursing home administrator. She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Gina Mallare and Joannie Sheldon, both of Danville, Joyce Prichard of Selkirk, N.Y. and Judy Kobrin of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sons, John R. Cannon of South Boston and Thomas Cannon of Balston Spa, N.Y.; 25 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one sister, Charlotte Reagan.

The funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Funeral Liturgy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Charles Breindel officiating. Interment will be in Glens Falls, N.Y.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Michael Mallare Scholarship Fund, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 540 Central Boulevard, Danville, VA 24541.

Willie Francis

NATHALIE, Va. - Willie Thomas Francis, 61, of Nathalie, died June 2, 2002 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Born June 6, 1940 in Halifax County, he was a son of John Thomas Francis and Ella Pierce Francis.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include one son, Willie Thomas Francis Jr. of Halifax; six brothers, Paul J. Francis of Brookneal, Vanda Lee Francis of Gastonia, N.C., Howard B. Francis, Glenn M. Francis, Stanley C. Francis, and David L. Francis, all of Nathalie; four sisters, Ann Francis Butler of Halifax, Vernell Francis Ford of Davidson, N.C., Donna M. Owen of Danville and Judy Faye Elder of Brookneal; and one grandson.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the home of David Francis, 1049 Sam's Trail, Nathalie.

Thelma Mullins

DANVILLE, Va. - Thelma Hinson Mullins, of 2134 North Main Street died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at her residence.

Born December 17, 1929 in Elkin, N.C., she was a daughter of G. Dewey Hinson and Maude Hanks Hinson.

She was married to Elvin N. Mullins, who predeceased her. She retired from Dan River Mills Inc., 4A Weave in 1992 following 46 years of service. She was a member of The Baptist Tabernacle.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Case, Vickie Barber and Brenda Smith, all of Danville; three sons, Steven Mullins of Danville, Noel Mullins of Reidsville, N.C. and James Mullins of Lynchburg; five sisters, Carol Carty and Dare Donathan, both of Reidsville, N.C., Doris Griffin of Madison, N.C., and Ima Crouse and Nina Cheek, both of Thurman, N.C.; one brother, Major Carrico of Reidsville, N.C.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by four sisters, Hazel Shaut, Gladys Hall, Faye McGregor, and Augusta Hall, and one brother, Leslie Carrico.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Freddie Vicks and R.J. Barber Jr. officiating. Interment will follow Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home and will receive friends at other times at the residence of her daughter, Janet Case, 2120 North Main Street.

Bryan Renteria

CHATHAM, Va. - Bryan Popoca Renteria, age 2, of 289 Van Der Hyde Dairy Road, died on Saturday, June 1, 2002.

Born May 29, 2000 in Los Angeles, Calif., he was the son of Gregorio Popoca and Guadalupe Renteria, who survive.

Survivors, in addition to his parents of the residence, include one brother, Andy Popoca Renteria of the residence; paternal grandparents, Francisco Popoca and Francisca Garcia, both of Los Angeles; maternal grandparents, Venito Renteria and Francisca Leon, both of Rio Florido, Mexico; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral mass will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Charles L. Breindel and Seminarian Rodrigo Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.

Visitation and a prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home.

Rochelle ‘Rocky' Williams

NORFOLK, Va. - Rochelle "Rocky" Venturia Williams, 52, of 3407 Oceanview Ave., died suddenly Monday, May 27, 2002 at his residence.

Born January 26, 1950 in Danville, Va. he was a son of Harold Williams Sr. who deceased her and Dorothy Adams Williams, who survives.

He was formerly married to Diane Gunn Williams and was a decorated veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two daughters, Yumeko Michelle Williams of Hampton, Va. and Reniqua W. Davis of Danville; one stepson, Cory Gunn of Danville; two sisters, Mariliyn Warren and Karen Clark, both of Danville; two brothers, Lawson Williams and Harold Williams, both of Danville; five grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Haywood Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Dempsey Wright

MANHEIM, Penn. - Dempsey L. Wright, 73, of Manheim died Monday at 154 South Broad Street, Lititz, Penn. following a lengthy illness.

Born in Ferrum, Va., he was the son of John Rellie and Sallie Effie Sloan Wright.

He was married to Priscilla Hartman Wright, who survives. He lived in Danville for 10 years. He worked for an oil truck delivery service for Arthur J. Ulrich Company for 20 years. He was a member of Manheim Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 5956, The Germania Band Club, and the Elstonville Sportsmen Association.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Michael Wright of Manheim; five daughters, Deborah Yarnes and Janet Eberly, both of Ephrata, Donna Roth of Manheim, Wanda Hackman of Lititz and Vicki Wright of Penn.; one brother, Melvin Wright of Danville; four granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased, in addition to his parents, by one daughter, Diana Kauffman.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim. Interment will follow at Manheim Fairview Cemetery.

A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Mildred Layden Archer

CHATHAM, Va. - Mildred Layden Archer, 89, formerly of Chatham, died at the Meadowbrook Terrace Nursing Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.

She was the daughter of Tom Layden and Cora Felton Layden.

She was the wife of Edward Blair Archer, who predeceased her.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Blair Archer, Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Jerry Lee Archer of Round Hill, Va.; two sisters and three brothers. She is also survived by three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1 from the graveside at the St. Johns Cemetery in Wytheville, Va.

The family will receive friends 12-1:30 Sunday at the Grubbs Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va.

Victoria Payne Belton

DANVILLE, Va. - Victoria Payne Belton, 83, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Olin Jerome Payne and Leslie Smith Payne.

She was married to William O. Belton, who predeceased her.

She grew up in Covington, Va. and later graduated from Brenean College in Gainsville, Ga.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Barnhardt and Susan Frances Belton, both of Danville; and two sons, William Jerome Belton and James Michael Belton, both of Danville.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Virginia.

Irene Ellis Bennett

SANDY LEVEL, Va. - Irene Ellis Bennett, 70, of 305 Dr. Mease Dr., Sandy Level, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002 at Franklin Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 11, 1932, in Franklin Co., she was a daughter of Everett "Jack" Ellis and Edna Perdue Ellis.

She was married to Clarence Gilmer Bennett, who predeceased her.

She was a member of the Sandy Level Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Maylon Lumpkin of Penhook and Betty and Dennis Hodges of Sandy Level; four brothers, Wayne Ellis of Martinsville, Nathan Ellis of Spencer, Gary Ellis of Abilene, Texas, and Floyd Ellis of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Scottie and Kristi Adams, Timmy and Teresa Lumpkin and Terry and Michelle Lumpkin; five great-grandchildren, Morgan Adams, Bennett Adams, Tyler Lumpkin, Jason Lumpkin, and Bradley Lumpkin.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Gene Ashworth and the Rev. Donald Thacker. Interment will follow in Liberty Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 Saturday evening at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Betty Hodges, 255 Dr. Mease Drive, Sandy Level.

Leary Millner Harper

DANVILLE, Va. - Leary Millner Harper, 104, of 139 Godfrey St., died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at her residence.

Born Aug. 21, 1898, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Jessie Millner and Augusta Deering Millner.

She was a homemaker and member of Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church.

She was married to Samuel Harper Sr., who predeceased her.

She is survived by a son, Samuel Thornton of DeNora, Pa.; two daughters, Dorothy H. Terry of Chatham and Ola Mae Hood of Danville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham and Hughes Memorial Chapel with Elder Ronnie Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A viewing will be held 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home.

The family will be at the residence.
